The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that Bangladesh’s veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been named the Men’s Player of the Month for March 2023. Shakib had a phenomenal month in international cricket, both with the bat and ball.

Shakib Al Hasan played a crucial role in Bangladesh’s historic 3-0 series win against South Africa in the three-match Test series, where he picked up 15 wickets and scored 235 runs

In the first Test at Dhaka, he scored a brilliant century in the second innings and picked up three wickets in the match, which Bangladesh won by 5 wickets. In the second Test at Chittagong, he picked up a five-wicket haul in the first innings and scored 47 runs in the match, which Bangladesh won by 103 runs. 

In the third Test at Sylhet, he once again contributed with both bat and ball, picking up seven wickets and scoring 82 runs in the match, which Bangladesh won by an inning and 52 runs.

Shakib also played a crucial role in Bangladesh’s 2-1 series win against West Indies in the three-match ODI series, where he picked up 5 wickets and scored 129 runs. In the second ODI at Dhaka, he scored an unbeaten 67 and picked up two wickets to help Bangladesh win by 5 wickets.

The left-arm spinner and middle-order batsman had an outstanding overall record in March, scoring 364 runs and taking 20 wickets across all formats of the game. His performances helped Bangladesh win both the Test and ODI series against South Africa and West Indies, respectively.

The ICC Men’s Player of the Month award was introduced in January 2021 to recognize and celebrate the best performances by male cricketers in all formats of international cricket. The award is decided based on the votes of fans, the media, and a panel of experts.

Shakib was delighted to receive the award, and he thanked his teammates and coaches for their support. He also thanked the fans who voted for him, saying that their support meant a lot to him.

“I am honoured to win the award and would like to thank the expert panellists who have voted for me,”

Shakib said.

Shakib has proved his worth as a valuable all-rounder for Bangladesh and one of the best in the world.
