T20 World Cup 2026 super 8 IND vs ZIM clash

India presented a strong batting performance against Zimbabwe at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. After Zimbabwe won the toss and decided to bowl, the Indian batsmen took control from the very beginning. They scored a staggering 256/4 in 20 overs. This is one of the highest totals that India has achieved in the T20 World Cup.

While chasing such a high total, Zimbabwe showed strong character. Captain Sikandar Raza and youngster batter Brian Bennett attempted to keep hopes alive.
They intend to play with mounting pressure. The run rate was rising, but the Indian bowlers were disciplined.

The game-changer was in the 17th over, when Arshdeep Singh dismissed Sikandar Raza. Raza was batting aggressively and had 2 fours and 2 sixes in his 31 off 21 balls. His strike rate was 147.62. On 16.2, Arshdeep bowled a short-of-a-length delivery at 135.5 kph. Raza tried to hit a massive pull shot but could not clear long-on, where Abhishek Sharma took a safe catch.

Bennett Fights Hard but Target Too Big

After Raza’s wicket at 144/3, Zimbabwe’s chase became much tougher. Brian Bennett remained unbeaten on 78 off 49 balls and fought bravely till the end. Tadiwanashe Marumani added 20 runs, but the middle order struggled against Axar Patel and Varun Chakaravarthy, who picked up one wicket each. The pressure kept increasing as India tightened their grip.

Earlier, India’s innings was full of explosive batting. Abhishek Sharma scored 55 off 30 balls, while Ishan Kishan made 38 and Suryakumar Yadav added 33. Hardik Pandya finished strongly with an unbeaten 50 off 23 balls, and Tilak Varma smashed 44 off 16 balls. A late charge took India beyond 250, a target too large for Zimbabwe to chase down.

As of writing, Zimbabwe are 161/4 after 18 overs, with Brian Bennett unbeaten on 84, but still needing 96 runs from the final 12 balls.
