The T20 World Cup 2026 clash at the R. Premadasa Cricket Stadium in Colombo between Australia and Zimbabwe was only the second T20I clash between these two sides in the history of the event. The last time, in 2007, a magical knock from Brendon Taylor blew away the Aussies at the Newlands in Colombo, as Australia found themselves under pressure even in this game.

Chasing 170 runs, they found themselves four down inside the first five overs of the innings, along with the injury of Marcus Stoinis, who put such an expression after being hit on the fingertip against Brad Evans. But the biggest turning point of the encounter came when Evans dismissed the opponent captain, Travis Head, who returned for 17 runs.

It was the third delivery of the fifth over of the innings as Evans came up with a length delivery outside the off-stump, as the southpaw played it away from his body and got a thick inside edge onto the pads. But the worst part was that it rolled back onto the stumps as Head couldn’t believe his luck and went back for 17 runs in 15 balls.

Earlier in the innings, Zimbabwe posted a strong score of 169 runs in their allotted 20 overs for the loss of two wickets as their opening batter, Brian Bennett, remained unbeaten on 64 runs in 56 balls with the help of seven boundaries at a strike rate of 114.29.

Meanwhile, their wicket-keeper batter, Tadiwanashe Marumani, played a sensational knock of 35 runs in 21 balls, thanks to seven boundaries, while their captain, Sikandar Raza, contributed with 25 runs in just 13 balls.

Zimbabwe were excellent in the first five overs of the innings with the ball as they restricted the opponents to 29 runs with four wickets down before five overs. But since then, Glenn Maxwell and Matt Renshaw put the pressure back on the Eagles with a fifty-run stand for the fifth wicket.

Brief Scores: Zimbabwe 169/2 (Brian Bennett 64, Tadiwanashe Marumani 35, Cameron Green 1/6) vs Australia 105/4 (Matt Renshaw 45*, Brad Evans 2/11)
