Dewald Brevis smashes Varun Chakravarthy for no-look six

South Africa did not get a great start with the bat, having decided to do the same against India in their opening Super 8 clash of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. They lost three wickets inside the first four overs of the first innings, including their captain, Aiden Markram, and veteran opening batter, Quinton de Kock.

But since then, David Miller and Dewald Brevis settled the nerves and put the Proteas in a strong position with their 97-run partnership for the fourth wicket, which ended up being their highest ever fourth wicket partnership in the history of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Brevis was in great touch against the spinners as he smashed several sixes around the park.

One of his trademark no-look sixes went viral on social media platforms. It came during the ninth over of the innings as the right-handed batter went low and smoked it clean down the ground for an 82-meter maximum against Varun Chakravarthy, who was full on the off stump.

Dewald Brevis' no-look six in T20 World Cup 2026 vs India goes viral

Earlier in the game, Jasprit Bumrah drew the first blood with the wicket of de Kock before Arshdeep Singh sent back Markram while Bumrah returned to get the wicket of Ryan Rickelton. Miller completed his 50 in just 25 balls and continued to take the revenge against India, which he missed out on during the last T20 World Cup’s final in Barbados.

Brevis was finally dismissed by Shivam Dube as he missed out against the short ball before Abhishek Sharma grabbed a calm catch to send back the batter on 45 runs in 29 balls with the help of three boundaries and as many sixes as a strike rate of more than 155.

South Africa would eye to cross the 200 Denmark on a surface which looked better for the factors and would remain the same as their captain predicted at the toss. It was the same surface where both teams faced each other in the bilateral series at the end of last year, where 432 runs were scored in 40 overs.

Brief Scores: SA 152/5 (David Miller 63, Jasprit Bumrah 2/7) vs India.
