Australia and South Africa are taking on each other in the first ODI at the Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairn on August 19. After winning the T20I series by 2-1, Australia also won the toss in the first ODI and asked South Africa to bat first. Fans were waiting to see Dewald Brevis in action as he had played a surreal knock scoring 22 ball fifty in the T20I series.

After losing Tristan Stubbs for a duck, South Africa were in worrisome position scoring 224/4. Brevis came out to bat and he lodged the first ball of his ODI career bowled by Travis Head towards long on for a six. He was looking in fine touch but his stay was not meant for any longer as he was dismissed on the very next ball.

South Africa struggle to put a big score

Brevis scored six runs off just 2 balls and departed leaving South Africa at 230/5 within 41 overs. For South Africa most of the run scoring was done by opener Aiden Markram. Markram opened the innings and scored 82 off 81 with the help of nine boundaries and a strike rate of 101.23.

Another good knock came at the end of Temba Bavuma. The skipper came into bat at number three and proceeded with caution. He then charged in between and ended up scoring 65 runs off 74 deliveries. He smashed five boundaries in the process and most of his runs came via running between the wickets. At the end of 47 overs, South Africa were 275/6.
