Joe Root from childhood days.

Any glorious batters tend to show their class from such a young age, and that is the exact case with the current second leading Test run-getter, England’s Joe Root, who now has only the former Indian captain, Sachin Tendulkar, to chase in the longest format. He sits in the second place with 13409 runs in 286 innings at an average of 51.18 and a strike rate of 57.40, thanks to 66 fifties and 38 centuries.

The Yorkshire batter had a terrific third day of the fourth Test between England and India at Old Trafford in Manchester. He surpassed Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis, and Ricky Ponting in the list of most Test runs during his knock of 150 runs. He also equaled Kumar Sangakkara to celebrate 38 centuries in the longest format.

A video has gone viral of the batter where Root was seen batting in his childhood. It’s expected to be a club game. One could see how elegant he had been looking at the crease while various drives, pulls, and cut shots. Also, in time, he showed a great defense besides a brilliant running between the wickets.

Since the start of 2020, the right-handed batter has smashed 21 centuries, which is equal to what Kane Williamson had till that period since his debut in the five-day game. He also went past Steve Smith to celebrate the most Test centuries (12) against India, as he now holds the third-highest joint record of most centuries by a batter against a particular opposition.

Root’s 150 was also glorified with the two 70+ knocks from the top three of the England side- Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, and Ollie Pope, as Ben Stokes, the captain, amidst his cramps that forced him to leave the field for nearly an hour in the third evening session, remained unbeaten on 77 runs.

The home side had already taken a lead of 186 runs by the end of the third day and had nearly sealed the series by a margin of 2-1. India would need to bat the best on the fourth day surface in Manchester to save this game and keep the fifth game at the Kennington Oval alive.
