Yashasvi Jaiswal shares bond with Shubman Gill and his leadership.

During the second Test between India and the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, there was a moment on the morning session of the second day when Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill were batting together. The former was on 175 when he drove the ball to the mid-on fielder and set for a single, even before looking at the reaction of Gill.

The fielder picked the ball and threw it to the wicket-keeper, who broke the stumps and found the southpaw short of the crease. Many reckoned that Gill was jealous of Jaiswal, and that was the reason for his not running to the other end. But the Mumbai batter, during a recent podcast, revealed his bond with the Punjab-born.

“I was batting and got cramps in my finger, and started massaging, and that was the time when Shubman started to help me. That’s a beautiful moment, and he is an amazing friend as well. He is a jolly character, and whenever it’s required to be sincere, he would be. I am telling you, if you spend time with him, he will try to keep the environment light and keep smiling.” Jaiswal expressed during a recent podcast.

Jaiswal, the upcoming star opening batter, has smashed 2428 runs in 49 innings of the longest format at an average of 51.65 and a strike rate of 66.42. The 23-year-old has already celebrated seven red-ball centuries and 12 fifties at the best score of unbeaten 214 runs, as he earned success against England and Australia away from home.

“We really enjoyed ourselves. There was amazing camaraderie between us. So, it was amazing to bat with him, and he batted really well. The way he has been very calm and composed. I loved batting with him and enjoying under him as well.” Jaiswal addressed.

On the other hand, Gill, since taking over the Test captaincy, has taken his red-ball game to another level. In 72 innings, the right-handed batter has clubbed 2839 runs at an average of 43.01 and a strike rate of 61.45 with the help of 10 centuries and eight half-centuries at the best score of 269 at Edgbaston.
