The former Indian wicketkeeper-batter, Dinesh Karthik, has analyzed the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav in their narrow seven-run victory during the second semifinal of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 against England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. He felt that Sky used the right set of bowlers at the right time in the innings. 

Karthik praised Suryakumar Yadav for bringing back Jasprit Bumrah for the 16th and 18th over of the second innings, where he delivered two special overs before Hardik Pandya continued the pressure with another great over.

“This is what I love about the format because there is a lot of thinking you need to do as a skipper. Suryakumar Yadav was good, but I won’t say he was great. Towards the end, the last five overs, I thought he went with the right set of bowlers. He got Bumrah on the 16th and 18th. And in between that, he brought his best bowler, Arshdeep Singh, who bowled well barring the last two balls.” Karthik said on the Sky Sports show.

Karthik was also impressed with the fielding performance of the blue brigade, as Axar Patel grabbed two great catches to dismiss Harry Brook and Will Jacks at the boundary line to turn the game on its head.

“And then he finished it off with Hardik, someone who thrives under pressure. What I saw today in India was the embodiment of what they stand for, which is to keep fighting under pressure, but most importantly, to correct the biggest wrong of what they have done wrong in this World Cup.” Dinesh Karthik expressed. 

“They had the poorest fielding side, and today, they turned up and fielded like a team that wanted to win. That attitude I loved the most. They held on to their catches. They had a fantastic runout at the back end. But you can almost give the man of the match to Axar for the way he fields. And no one would complain of it. I mean, that was out of the world of some of the catches he got.” The wicket-keeper batter added.
