Jemimah Rodrigues played one of the great innings in Indian women's cricket when she helped India to an unforgettable victory over Australia in the semifinal of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. The contest took place at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, as India chased down an extraordinary target of 339 runs against the former champions. Jemimah scored an unbeaten 127 off 134 balls, including 14 stunning fours, while staying calm and composed under pressure.

Her brilliant innings ended Australia’s eight-year winning run in World Cup cricket and helped India reach the final. The 25-year-old from Mumbai was emotional after the match as she received the ‘Player of the Match’ award. She thanked her family for supporting her through tough times and shared that she didn’t even know she would bat at number three until just before going in to play.

“Firstly, I want to thank Jesus. I couldn’t have carried it alone. Thanks to him. To my dad and mum and to everyone who have carried me. Last six months have been tough,” said Rodrigues. “I didn’t know I was batting at three. The discussion was going on and I said let me know. Five minutes before, I knew I was batting at three. It was not about proving myself but it was about taking India home. We have lost in crunch situations.”

Jemimah Rodrigues opens up on anxiety, faith, and mental strength

When asked why she didn’t celebrate her century, Jemimah Rodrigues said her only goal was to take India over the line. She opened up about the emotional and mental struggles she faced after being dropped from the World Cup squad last year. “Today, it wasn’t about my fifty or my hundred. It was about winning for India. I know I was dropped a few chances but God carried me throughout. Last year, I was dropped from this World Cup. I was in form but things kept happening. I have amazing people around me. I have cried every day. I was going through anxiety. It was a challenge for me. I just had to show up every day and God carried me through,” she said.

Reflecting on her crucial partnerships with captain Harmanpreet Kaur and all-rounder Deepti Sharma, Jemimah added, “Initially, I keep talking to myself. In the end, I was just murmuring one scripture from the Bible. It says, ‘stand still and God will help you.’ I just tried to stay till the calm. In the end, to see India winning by five wickets, I couldn’t stop myself.” She continued, “When Harry Di came, we spoke about building a partnership. Deepti kept talking with me every ball. Richa also spoke with me. When I was finding it hard, my teammates lifted me.”

India will now face South Africa in the final of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 on Sunday, November 2. With Jemimah Rodrigues in top form and full of belief, India will aim to lift their first-ever Women’s World Cup trophy.
