Kuldeep Yadav earned his fifth five-wicket haul in Tests during the first innings of the second Test against the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. But he didn’t look sharp in the second, with the visiting batter coming hard at home with aggressive shots, making it hard for the left-arm spinner to continue at the same line and length.

Kuldeep kept bowling a bit fuller to the West Indies batters, with the powerful batters using their feet and power to smash them around the park for the big shots. The shoulder kept dropping for the individual and the entire side as they lacked plans to dismiss the opposition batters.

However, he finally ended the jinx with the wicket of Tevlin Imlach for 12 runs. The right-hander wasn’t sure of which side the ball was spinning in that over. He went on his front foot on the first two balls but had no idea. Kuldeep pulled the length as the ball hit the crack and went low to find the batter plumb before the stump.

Imlach didn’t even think of going for a discussion with his partner, Captain Roston Chase, at the other end, and he kept walking back to the dressing room. The morning session for the Indian team began with India being able to break the 177-run stand for the third wicket between John Campbell and Shai Hope.

The former smashed a fine knock of 115 runs in 199 balls with the help of 12 boundaries and three sixes, while Hope celebrated his first red-ball century after eight years. The right-handed batter went back to the pavilion for 103 runs. But since the latter’s dismissal, the home side found a way to keep making breakthroughs.

Kuldeep, after sending back Imlach, picked up two wickets of Chase and Khary Pierre in a span of three balls and brought India back in the contest. Justin Greaves is the only arranged batter left in the unit as the lead goes to near 40 runs with three wickets left.
