Both India and Mohammed Siraj had been on fire in the morning session of the fourth day of the third Test between England and India at Lord’s. Siraj drew the first blood with the wicket of Ben Duckett, who was early on the pull short and found the mid-on fielder, as there was a small interaction of the batter and bowler clashing their shoulders. 

Siraj was in a great spell with the new hard ball. He kept on challenging England’s number three, Ollie Pope, with outswingers and in swinging deliveries. One of the balls from Jasprit Bumrah flew off the top half of the bat and ballooned behind the slip corridor for a boundary. That showed how uneven the bounce of the surface was.

On the last ball of the 12th over, Siraj went with a ball that shaped in towards the furniture and went to the batter, who played it like an outswinger. Pope was fully forward to the shot and got caught in the crease as the ball snuck past the inside edge of the ball and wrapped him on the pads. The umpire didn’t raise the finger, but Shubman Gill decided to take the review, which showed three reds.

It hasn’t been a great last couple of weeks for the right-handed batter, who, even after the century at Leeds, has looked to be lacking confidence. He is yet to celebrate more than one century in a single Test series for England, and as of now, it won’t happen. Siraj, on the other hand, has given the Blue Brigade a perfect platform.

The surface has already started to show its color where a few balls have started to rise from the shoulder height, while a few balls have hit the batters on the knee. That won’t be, say the least, easy to bat on in the fourth innings, and that makes England’s batting important during the third innings.

Despite the wickets, England have kept on playing their shots with their aggressive approach, as they look to go beyond the 300-run mark, which won’t make it easy for the visitors to chase down the score.
