The IPL 2025 will resume on May 17 after a week-long suspension following border tensions between India and Pakistan, and Mumbai Indians (MI) are already in the thick of things, gearing up for their last league matches. The Hardik Pandya-led team, placed fourth on the points table with 14 points from 12 matches (seven wins, five losses), is working hard at Wankhede Stadium. Recent IPL-released footage shows MI going the extra mile to qualify for a playoff place and keep the hopes of achieving a sixth title alive.

The training video depicts several main MI players preparing, with Tilak Varma and Rohit Sharma having a bat in the nets, focusing on their timing and technique. Mitchell Santner, a key Kiwi spinner, was also seen with impressive revolutions during the release, which suggests he will provide plenty of problems for the opposition batters. The clip shows several other players as well: Satyanarayan Raju, Robin Minz, and Ashwani Kumar, all putting in plenty of work during the season as MI wants to finish strong in the league.

MI’s remaining fixtures are crucial for their playoff aspirations. Their first game since the resumption is against Delhi Capitals (DC) on May 21 at Wankhede Stadium, a ground where they had beaten DC by 12 runs in a nail-biting last-over game on April 13 at Arun Jaitley Stadium. Their final league game will be against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 26 at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium, which has become PBKS’s new base due to border issues ruling out Dharamsala and Mohali as venues.

MI’s Path to the Playoffs

The game against DC is the next opportunity for MI to put the home advantage to full use at Wankhede, which they have done really well at all season. Although DC is positioned fifth and holds 13 points after 11 matches, they are a good opponent and will provide a challenge. However, MI's training really suggested that they were ready to replicate the success they had against DC earlier in the season.

The last league game will be against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on May 26. The significance of that game needs no highlighting. MI’s preparation shown in the training clip above is really concentrated on qualifying into a top-four position and taking them to their IPL 2025 final, now scheduled for 3 June.
