The number three batter of the Indian cricket team, Tilak Varma, ahead of their T20 World Cup 2026 fixture against Pakistan at the R. Premadasa, reflected on the final knock that he played against the Salman Ali Agha-led side in the Asia Cup at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. 

Tilak Varma felt that he was under pressure early on after losing wickets in clusters and soaked the pressure in that position before letting the others play the big shots. He also reckoned on playing the big shots when the chances occurred.

“It was the same thing that happened with me in the Asia Cup 2025. It was unexpected, but the Pakistan side came stronger (in the defense), and they put us under early pressure. And that was when I played well. So, if you repeat those things, then no one can stop us. I will always want to anchor. If there is pressure, I will look to soak the pressure.” Varma expressed on Star Sports.

In the chase of 150 runs, Varma ended as the leading run-getter with an unbeaten 69 runs in 53 balls at a strike rate of 130.19 with the help of three boundaries and four sixes. He bailed them out of trouble when they were 3/20 in four overs.

“The player with me, during the pressure time, will be playing his shots, and whenever I get the opportunity, I will also try to hit. If I don’t get the chance, then I will try to soak the pressure and look to hit just like that knock against Pakistan. If that thing happens again, I will be like- not sure!! Can’t describe. More than anyone. God’s plan.” The southpaw addressed.

“I kept telling myself, I will do it; whatever happens, I will win the game for the country. I was just listening to my heart, not my mind. There was so much going on in my head, but I was just breathing. I looked at the India logo on my jersey and what it means to me. I also knew that God was with me. So yeah, everything went well.” Tilak Varma concluded.
