Jasprit Bumrah makes witty comment on media.

Plenty of questions have been raised over a statement from the Indian premier pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, that he gave in the press conference after the second day of the third Test at Lord’s between England and India. Over the last week at Edgbaston, the question was why the Ahmedabad-born didn’t feature in a do-or-die clash for the Blue Brigade, but India’s 336-run victory to level the series at 1-1 has put sand on the burning fire.

Before the start of the series, India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, informed that the management will use the veteran fast bowler in only three games of the series, and looking at the picture, it feels like if they lose this Test match, most likely he will feature in the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester. But the pacer made a witty comment on the media’s speculation.

“Honours board par aana acchi baat hai, but mujhe pata hai ki discussions toh honge hi. Views, subscribers – aaj kal zamana he wahi hai. Subko sansani karni hai. Theek hai, log paise kama rahe hain mere through acchi baat hai. Mereko kum say kim dua denge.” The 31-year-old addressed, perhaps having read the news surrounding his place in the national side for all five fixtures.

In the absence of the right-arm fast bowler, Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj stepped up with fire to set the stage for the tourists’ victory. The former picked up a ten-wicket haul in the game, including a six-wicket haul in the second innings. On the other hand, Siraj earned a six-wicket haul in the first innings of the clash.

Bumrah, on his return, responded brilliantly with a five-wicket haul, his first, at Lord’s. On the first evening, he broke through the defense of the number one red-ball batter, Harry Brook. But his best came during the second morning. With a nip-backer, he broke Ben Stokes’ stumps as the ball jagged back into the bat. Centurion Joe Root got an inside edge onto the stumps, while Chris Woakes couldn’t open the account after getting an outside edge.

Now it’s up to the batters how much they put in their first innings with the bat. Ideally, they will want a huge lead, but the most important aspect will be how much rest they give Jasprit Bumrah and co. to fire up in the second innings.
