After the dismissal of Azmatullah Omarzai in the 16th over of the second innings during the clash between Afghanistan and Bangladesh at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the former’s captain, Rashid Khan, walked into the middle with the bat. That was a situation when Afghanistan still needed so many runs with the fall of several wickets, as Bangladesh was putting pressure on the opponents.

Rashid played one of the sensational shots on the first ball of the 17th over of the second innings against Mustafizur Rahman. The Afghanistan captain put his head down and played a no-look six with the flick of the wrist. The bowler couldn’t believe it, as was the reaction from the captain and wicket-keeper of the Tigers, Litton Das, along with the rest of the team.

On the fourth ball of the chase, Rashid cut the slower delivery from the left-arm pacer through the point region for a boundary. He picked up the slower delivery quite well and had a huge smile on his face. But he couldn’t continue the same knock and got out for 20 runs in 11 balls with the help of two fours and one six.

Rashid was required to play a huge role in the game, where a victory would have taken his side to the Super 4 stage of the competition. The leg spinner drew first blood in the seventh over, when Saif Hasan was deceived completely with a googly as the ball crashed into the off-stump to break the stand. The batter got out for 30 runs in 28 balls.

On the third ball of the 16th over, it was a waste of a review from Rashid Khan, who stuck Shamim Hossain on the back foot. The batter’s flick shot couldn’t keep the ball away as he was trapped leg before the stumps. The veteran spinner ended with figures of 2/26 in four overs.

Despite that, Afghanistan fell short of the victory by eight runs and will now need to win the last group-stage clash against Sri Lanka to stay alive in this competition.
