Rishabh Pant's bat goes flying in air during ENG vs IND 2nd Test

Rishabh Pant brought his trademark flair and unpredictability to the crease during Day 4 of the second Test between India and England at Edgbaston. Walking in at a tricky juncture with India at 126/3, Pant was expected to stabilise the innings alongside captain Shubman Gill. True to his style, Pant counterattacked and changed the momentum in India’s favour, playing aggressive strokes against a disciplined English bowling unit.

One particular moment stood out during his entertaining innings. On the 33.4th over, bowled by Josh Tongue, Pant went for an expansive swing but hilariously lost control of his bat. It slipped out of his hands and fell in the square leg area, which had players and fans laughing. Even Pant stopped and smiled, looking up to the heavens while he chuckled at the accident. The ball went through harmlessly to the wicketkeeper so the moment was amusing in an intense contest.

However, Pant’s knock was serious in how it contributed to India's excellent position. His swashbuckling partnership with Gill powered them past fifty in no time, continuing to keep England on the back foot. Pant's carefree attitude in adversity is still a tremendous asset for India and a great delight for fans, while he is able to keep innings to the point of being reliable when required in different and important innings as India dominates the Test match with a substantial lead of 357 runs, as they break for Lunch on Day 4.

India lead Edgbaston Test with a lead of 357 runs at Lunch Break on Day 4

At the lunch break on Day 4 of the second Test at Edgbaston, India are in a commanding position with a 357-run lead. They have reached 177/3 in 38 overs during their second innings. Skipper Shubman Gill is unbeaten on 44, while Rishabh Pant has played a brisk knock of 41 off just 35 balls. Earlier in the session, Yashasvi Jaiswal (28), KL Rahul (55), and Karun Nair (26) laid the foundation for a solid total. England's bowlers struggled to contain the flow of runs, with Josh Tongue picking up two wickets.

When play resumes after lunch, India will be looking to extend their score, and they will want at least another 150 runs. Their lead is nearing 360 at the moment, and getting to a target of over 500 in the second innings would create an enormous challenge for England. The pitch is starting to wear, and India’s spinners could come into play as the day progresses. If Pant and Gill continue to bat freely and pile on the runs, the hosts will have a daunting chase ahead. A few quick boundaries in the next session could allow India to declare early and give their bowlers ample time to push for a series-levelling win.
