In the opening round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025/26 for the game between Mumbai and Sikkim at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, the eyes were on the veteran opening batter and the former captain, Rohit Sharma, who returned to the domestic 50-over format for Mumbai as they clash on with Sikkim at the Sawai Mansingh Cricket Stadium in Jaipur. 

There was a massive crowd for Rohit Sharma at the ground, with his fans turning up enjoy the opening batter’s brutal batting. The Nagpur-born was in supreme touch during the recent home South Africa series and used the same form to belt some thumping sixes with his trademark pull shot around the park.

In just 28 deliveries, he celebrated his half-century. Out of his first 54 runs, 52 came through boundaries, which highlights the aggressive approach he has taken of late. Later, he completed his second VHT century in just 62 balls with the help of eight boundaries and as many sixes at a strike of more than 160 as Mumbai raced away to 142/2 in 20 overs in their 237-run chase.

Earlier in the day, Bihar’s left-handed opening batter, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, smashed a glorious knock of 190 runs in just 84 balls at a strike rate of 226.19 with the help of 16 boundaries and 15 sixes while their captain, S Gani, creamed an unbeaten 128-run knock in just 40 balls at a strike rate of 320, thanks to 10 boundaries and 12 sixes.

Fresh from his T20 World Cup 2026 selection, Ishan Kishan smartly demoted him at number six for Jharkhand and smacked a fine 125-run knock on 39 balls at a strike rate of 320.51, thanks to seven boundaries and 14 sixes to help the Jharkhand side post 412 in their allotted 50 overs against Karnataka. Scoring at the right time is essential, and Kishan has achieved it brilliantly.

The turnout of so many spectators to see the notable figures of the Indian cricket team is another sign of why they need to feature in these domestic games regularly and make sure the youngsters take massive learning for the future.
