During the opening round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025/26, the eyes were on the former Indian captain and the veteran opening batter, Rohit Sharma, who turned up for Mumbai against Sikkim in a contest at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. On his arrival at the airport, along with him was Mumbai captain, Shardul Thakur; there was a massive crowd in support for the opening.

Even from the beginning of the game, people started to rush to the stadium to enjoy Rohit Sharma’s batting later on as Mumbai got to bowl first in the contest. It’s the policy of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that addresses that every national player would need to feature in domestic games if they are not part of national assignments.

Rohit was in blistering form on his return to ODI Cricket after announcing his Test retirement during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The right-handed opening batter celebrated a fine half-century in Adelaide before following it up with an unbeaten century in Sydney during their away ODI series against Australia.

On his home against South Africa in the three-match ODI series, Rohit celebrated two quickfire half-centuries in Ranchi and Vizag as the Blue Brigade bagged the series by a 2-1 margin. His next focus will now be on the home ODI series against New Zealand earlier next year.
