Bowl-out in WCL 2025.

On the third encounter of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025, the temperature of excitement reached the highest level as the fans recalled the memory of the 2007 T20 World Cup group clash between India and Pakistan. The organizers of this WCL event have decided to bring back the bowl-out to break tied games. That was the first instance of this action taking place.

On July 19, the game at Edgbaston between the Caribbean and the Proteas ended in a draw as the umpires decided to move to the bowl-out system to decide the winner. On the first ball of the five-ball set, the left-arm spinner, Aaron Phangiso, bowled way outside the off-stump as did the right-arm pacer, Chris Morris.

The left-arm pacer, Wayne Parnell, missed the stumps by a whisker before JJ Smuts broke the stumps. Parnell, on the second occasion, ran gingerly and nailed the yorker to hit the stumps. South Africa, who were under the leadership of former captain AB de Villiers, got two hits in five balls as the action moved to the West Indies side.

The Caribbean team started with Fidel Edwards, who went close to the off-stump, but couldn’t nail the ball in that part. The same happened with the left-arm speedster, Sheldon Cotrell, who nearly smelt the wood in the firing yorker. The off-spinner, Ashley Nurse, was also quite near the stumps, while Dwayne Bravo’s down the leg side delivery ended the game with the Rainbow Nation earning a victory.

Winning the toss, the Proteas decided to bowl first in the 11-over shortened contest due to rain at Edgbaston. None of the West Indies batters could stand tall with the bat in the first innings as they put on 79/5 in 11 overs with Chadrik Walton remaining unbeaten on 27 runs in 21 balls.

It was the same situation with South Africa’s top order. But Sarel Erwee nailed 27 runs in 18 balls while JP Duminy remained undefeated on 25 runs in 12 balls to carry them close to the target. Sulieman Benn used his speed beautifully to end with figures of 1/6 in two overs.
