The T20 World Cup 2026 contest between England and West Indies at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai was supposed to be a blockbuster; it was the case in the 2016 edition when Chris Gayle celebrated a fine century. Both teams came into the contest with a winning start under their belt, as England perhaps experienced a little more never against Nepal.

Winning the toss, England’s captain, Harry Brook, invited the 2016 champions to bat first on a surface which he called a tactical decision, keeping the stats in mind. The West Indies made a very bad start in the batting, losing both openers, including captain Shai Hope, in the first couple of overs.

They needed someone to flourish and break the jail as Shimron Hetmyer gave them the vital momentum with a boundary and six in the fourth over of the innings before Harry tossed the ball into the hands of Will Jacks, who leaked the pressure, after being smacked for 19 runs in that particular over.

After Hetmyer took the single on the very first delivery of the over, Roston Chase decided to free his arms against Jacks. It was a flighted delivery that drifted away from the right-handed batter, as Chase made room and lofted inside out over the wide mid-off region for a fine boundary. He continued the dominance with another boundary on the very next ball.

Watch the video here:

It was nearly a similar delivery as Chase planted his front foot across and nailed it over the backward square leg for another four, as it didn’t allow the fielder to even move. The fourth delivery was driven through the covers, where it beat the fielder and raced away to the boundary.

The final ball of the over was timed perfectly by Hetmyer behind the wicket as it sailed over the deep square leg for a massive six. That was when the West Indies got their momentum in the batting before England returned into the game with the wickets of both those batters.

Brief Scores: WI 103/4 (Roston Chase 34, Adil Rashid 1/8) vs England.
