Yashasvi Jaiswal celebrates century in Ranji Trophy 2025-26.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, India’s new, growing left-handed opening batter, had a fantastic two-match home Test series against the West Indies. In the first innings of the second clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, Jaiswal clubbed 175 runs. He flew to Australia for the three-match ODI series but didn’t feature in a single game, and later was not picked up for the five-match T20I series.

In the break, Jaiswal returned to India and played for Mumbai at his IPL home ground, the Samai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, during the Ranji Trophy 2025/26 against Rajasthan. The aim was to find rhythm and match fitness ahead of the two-match red-ball series against the Proteas at home. It has already been a fabulous red-ball career for the Mumbai batter.

Jaiswal, during the first innings for Mumbai, smashed a fine knock of 67 runs in 97 balls at a strike rate of 69.07, riding on eight boundaries and one six. He set up a century run partnership for the opening wicket with Musheer Khan, who ended with 49 runs. But Mumbai’s middle order gave a poor performance to get bundled out for 254.

The second innings was vital for Mumbai to see off the fourth and final day of the clash and make sure they don’t lose many wickets. Jaiswal and Musheer again posted a fine 149-run opening stand for Mumbai, where the former smashed a fine knock of 156 runs in 174 balls at a strike rate of 89.96 with the help of 18 boundaries and one six, while Musheer made 63 runs, riding on nine boundaries.

Jaiswal has overall collected 2428 runs in 49 innings of the longest format at an average of 51.65 and a strike rate of 66.42 with 12 fifties and seven centuries. In the first-class format, he has notched up 4520 runs at 56.50 with 16 fifties and as many centuries at the best score of 265.

The opening game of the red-ball series will be from November 14 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, before the action moves to the debutant ground, the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
