Salman Ali Agha reacts to handshake controversy

Ahead of the high-voltage clash of the T20 World Cup 2026 between India and Pakistan on February 15 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, the talk has been about the mystery spinner of the 2009 champions, Usman Tariq. But the other aspect of the game is about the handshake controversy, which will also remain a part of the system.

India didn’t shake hands with Pakistan for all the meetings in the Asia Cup 2025. Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian captain, didn’t extend his arm at the toss during the game while the players shook hands with themselves and the umpire before returning to the dressing room. Salman Ali Agha, the Pakistan captain, hopes to see the game being played with the right sportsmanship.

“I hope the match will be played in true sportsmanship. If the Indian team plans to shake hands, we’ll find that out tomorrow. Definitely, we do not have a good record against the Indians, but we can't change history, and every day is a new day.Agha expressed in the post-match press conference.

Agha also shed light on Usman Tariq, who has become the talk of the town for the blue brigade heading into the clash. He felt that Tariq would remain a vital member of the side, just like all the other 15 members of the team,

“You all have made Usman Tariq a big name. For us, all 15 players are important. He has been bowling well. You can definitely say that he is a trump card for us. He has been cleared by the ICC, so I don't understand why everyone is discussing him. Usman doesn't get affected by these things. He is fine. He doesn't care about these things.Salman Agha informed.

Rain has been forecast for the game. Pakistan trained on the eve of the game in the afternoon, while the Indian side is scheduled to be in action for the practice session in the evening.
