The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 auction will be held in Delhi, even though the communication hasn’t been made to the franchises, but the teams have been informed of the likely venue. The date of the auction is not finalized, but has been narrowed to November 26-28 as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) indicated that the auction would take place between November 26 and 29.

The auction is expected to be wrapped in a single day despite it being a mega event. With only five teams in the Women’s Premier League and a maximum squad size of 18 players, the process is unlikely to take long, even if as many as 90 players were to be auctioned.

“While the amount paid to an individual player may differ from the guideline price, the total amount based on the number of players retained will be used for salary cap calculation.” The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expressed in a recent note to the franchises that the guideline prices are for the salary cap calculations alone.

WPL 2025 mega auction date to be narrowed between November 26-29 for one day

The franchises have been asked to submit their list of retained players by November 05. Each team is allowed five retentions; it will lose nearly INR 3.5 crore for the number one player, while for the second player, it will eat up around INR 2.5 crore. For the third player, it will take up INR 1.75 crore from the purse.

For the fourth retention, the price will take INR 1 crore, while for the fifth and final player, the retention price will be INR 50 lakh. The player's pursuit for the auction is INR 15 crore, and five retentions will cost a side INR 9.25 crore. The guideline for retaining an uncapped player is INR 50 lakh.

The BCCI has approved the five Right to Match (RTM) card options, but the number of RTMs available to a franchise will be contingent upon the number of players retained. For every retained player, the franchise will lose one RTM option.
