Yashasvi Jaiswal continues his dominance with a century

Yashasvi Jaiswal once again showed his class and caliber in India’s ongoing Test match against England at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on Saturday. He notched up his third Test century in just 122 deliveries and helped India take charge.

Another ton for Yashasvi Jaiswal

Jaiswal started slowly but following the dismissal of Rohit Sharma, he started taking control of the game. His power hitting on a pitch favouring the batters quickly added runs to the scoreboard for the Indian side. It was Jaiswal’s innings that helped India come back to the innings despite losing the captain at the initial stage. With this hundred Jaiswal also brought his second Test century of the ongoing series. Yashasvi Jaiswal who is coming off a double century from the Visakhapatnam Test match, also became the first India batter since Virat Kohli to have accumulated over 400 runs in a Test series between India and England.

Yashasvi Jaiswal retires hurt

However, the 22-year-old couldn’t stretch the innings long enough as he was retired hurt on 104 off 133 deliveries. Just after reaching the milestone, he seemed to have issues with his back and the physio walked in to have a look. As he left the ground, Rajat Patidar joined Shubman Gill in the middle.  By the time, Jaiswal and Gill put together a 155-run partnership for the second wicket. However, Patidar was dismissed for a duck soon and Kuldeep Yadav, the nightwatchman stayed till the end with Gill (65). India are leading by 322 runs after scoring 196/2.

According to Law 25.4.2 of MCC, Jaiswal can return to bat later in the innings. The rule suggests, “If a batter retires because of illness, injury or any other unavoidable cause, that batter is entitled to resume his/her innings,” according to the rule.
