Fastest half century for India in T20I history ft. Abhishek Sharma

Abhishek Sharma did it again. A blistering half-century in record time. India won the 3rd T20I of the ongoing 5-match series against New Zealand (IND vs NZ 3rd T20I) in style. This time, Sharma completed his half-century facing only 14 balls. But, as of now, he is yet to break Yuvraj Singh's all-time record, registering a half-century in 12 balls only. It is worth noting that the former India batting all-rounder, Yuvraj Singh, is the mentor and guide of Abhishek Sharma. Like the teacher, the student also is doing the same – toying with the opposition bowlers.

List of batters who recorded the fastest half centuries for India in T20Is:

1. Yuvraj Singh (12 balls, India v England, Durban):

That six 6s in and over against England's Stuart Broad during the ICC T20 World Cup 2007 remains as one of the batting testimonials for the Indian cricketer. With 36 runs from a single over, Singh, on the night of September 19, 2007, touched the half-century mark in only 12 balls, which is, to date, recognised as the fastest half-century scored by an Indian batter in the T20Is.

2. Abhishek Sharma (14 balls, India v. New Zealand, Guwahati):

Last night, on January 25, Abhishek Sharma slammed a 14-ball fifty against New Zealand in Durban, which has captured the second spot in the record list. Sharma captured the spot by breaking his teammate Hardik Pandya's record. The opener remained not out for 68 off 20 with 5 over-boundaries and 7 boundaries.

3. Hardik Pandya (16 balls, India v. South Africa, Ahmedabad):

Hardik Pandya

Before Abhishek Sharma's cracking show last night, it was Hardik Pandya's 16-ball half-century which was in the second position of the list and is currently in third place. On December 19, 2025, the all-rounder registered a 16-ball fifty to claim a 63-run knock with a strike rate of 252.00, powered by five 4s and five 6s. That night, the newly decorated South African bowling line-up were baffled entirely.

4. Abhishek Sharma (17 balls, India v England, Wankhede):

Another milestone moment for Abhishek Sharma. Before concluding a 135-run knock in 54 deliveries, the southpaw got a half-century in only 17 balls on February 2, 2025. Riding high on Sharma's century, India scored 247 runs in the first innings and, with ease, won the match by a huge margin of 150 runs. Sharma smashed a whopping number of 13 maximums and 7 boundaries to decorate the innings.

5. Suryakumar Yadav (18 balls, India v. South Africa, Guwahati):

Suryakumar Yadav

Oct 2, 2022, Suryakumar Yadav reminded everyone why he was recognised as one of the most prolific batters in the format across the globe. The middle-order batter took just 18 balls to complete the half-century on that night. With the help from his 22-ball, 61-run knock, India managed to score 237 runs, batting first, in the thriller. Yadav's strike rate of 277.27 was because of the five 6s and five 4s he hit.
