IND vs AUS: Virat Kohli surpasses Virender Sehwag for most runs in Border-Gavaskar Trophy - Cricket Winner

Veteran India batter Virat Kohli surpassed former India opener Virender Sehwag for most runs in Border-Gavaskar Trophy in the second Test against Australia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.

The former India captain was dismissed in controversial fashion in the first innings for 44 runs while he could only add 20 runs to the team tally in the second innings on a slow-turning track. His innings’ not only helped him surpass Sehwag but made him the 9th highest run scorer of all-time in Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Virat Kohli goes past Virender Sehwag

The Indian run-machine had 1694 runs in Border-Gavaskar Trophy ahead of the Delhi Test. He needed 44 runs to go past Sehwag’s tally of 1738 runs. He accumulated 64 runs in the Delhi Test to put his run scoring tally to 1758 runs in 39 innings for Team India in the Border Gavaskar Trophy while Sehwag has scored his runs 43 innings.

India batting legend Sachin Tendulkar leads the tally for most runs in Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The maestro has accumulated 3262 runs at a spectacular average of 56.24 with nine centuries and 16 half-centuries to his name.

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting (2555), Team India Test batting great VVS Laxman (2434) and Rahul Dravid (2134) follow in that order in the list. However, Kohli will have a chance to add more runs to his tally in the remaining two Tests at home against Australia.
