An all-round batting performance from the batters followed by an incredible bowling display from Akash Madhwal saw Mumbai Indians knock-out Lucknow Super Giants by a massive margin of 81 runs in the Eliminator of Indian Premier League 2023 at MA Chidambaram Stadium.

MI won the toss, Rohit &Co decided to bat first. The openers did not have the best of starts, as Naveen-UL-Haq and Yash Thakur struck in back-to back overs sending both Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan for 11 and 15 runs, respectively.

The setting was well paced for MI, as the duo of Cameron Green and Suryakumar Yadav added a valuable 66 runs for the third wicket. Suryakumar Yadav amassed a quickfire 20 ball 33, while Cameron Green racked up 41 off 23. Both Suryakumar Yadav and Cameron Green got dismissed in the span of 3 deliveries courtesy of a lethal bowling display from Naveen-Ul-haq, MI were left in trouble at 105/4 in 11th over.

Cameos from Tilak Varma (26 off 22) and Nehal Wadhera (23 off 12) at the end helped MI post a massive total of 182/8 in 20 overs. For LSG, Naveen-Ul-haq was pick of bowlers for his spell of 4/38, while Yash Thakur ended his spell with 3/34.

Chasing 183, LSG lost their openers up front, as Akash Madhwal drew the first blood by dismissing Prerak Mankad for 3 off 6, while Chris Jordan picked the wicket of Kyle Mayers for 18 off 13 balls. The duo of Marcus Stoinis and Krunal Pandya led the rescue with a 46 -run stand for the third wicket, Stoinis kept the scoreboard ticking, while Krunal Pandya struggled to get runs.

In the ninth over, Piyush Chawla broke the partnership by inviting Krunal Pandya to go for big shot. Akash Madhwal struck twice in two balls, he cleaned up Ayush Badoni with a lethal delivery and soon sent Nicholas Pooran for a golden duck.

Couple of overs later, two massive mix-ups costed the wicket of Marcus Stoinis and Krishnappa Gowtham. LSG terribly collapsed from 69/2 to 92/7 in the span of four overs. From thereon, MI chipped in with wickets at regular interval, eventually knocking-out LSG by margin of 81 runs. Akash Madhwal was the pick of bowlers for his sensational bowling spell of 5/5 in 3.3 overs.
