Innings from Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma updated multiple lists of records. Rohit is now the batter with the most over-boundaries in ODIs. He surpassed former Pakistan international Shahid Afridi to become the new number one on the list. 

On Sunday (November 30, 2025), India registered a mammoth total of 349 runs for 8 wickets in the first of the 3-match ODI against South Africa. At JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi, Virat scored a century and a half-century for Rohit and the stand-in captain KL Rahul. Sharma scored 57 off 51. During this time, 'Hitman' smashed five boundaries and three over-boundaries.

The opener started his innings with a little bit of a slow pace, but soon, when Virat joined him in the middle, Rohit began to bat with more confidence. After settling down on the pitch, he increased his run rate as well. With 352 maximums, Rohit now holds the record for most ODI sixes in a mere 277 outings.

Rohit Sharma, the batter with most 6s in ODIs

Before the beginning of the match, he was only two sixes away from Afridi's six-hitting record. In the white-ball (ODI and Twenty20) cricket, hitting over-boundary is an art. Everyone who walks in the middle with a bat in hand wants to hit massive 6s. But as we say, hitting sixes is an art, so not every batter has the ability to hit maximums for his nation for years and years. 

Over time the Indian cricket team has been graced by multiple big hitters. MS Dhoni was one of them. Rohit Sharma also broke the record of Dhoni in the most six-hitting tally in ODIs. As Rohit moved to the number one spot in the list, Dhoni is now in the fifth of the tally.
