The ninth edition of the ICC T20 World Cup showcased intense competition, with stellar performances from both the bat and the ball. India emerged as the triumphant champions, securing their second-ever T20 WC title after a 17-year gap.

The tournament, featuring over 20 teams, including 11 full-time members and nine associate members, was a battleground of skill and strategy.   • India’s total score of 176/7 was the highest by any side in a Men’s T20 World Cup final, edging over Australia’s 173/2 against New Zealand in 2021.
  • India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, 37 years and 60 days old, became the oldest player to lead a team to victory in the T20 World Cup.

  • West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran hit the most sixes in a T20 World Cup, with 17 breaking the mark of 16 established by his great colleague Chris Gayle.
  • Lockie Ferguson of New Zealand made history by bowling four maiden overs in a single T20 World Cup session. He made a figure of 3/0 (4 overs) against Papua New Guinea in the Kiwis’ last group-stage tournament match.
  • The 2024 edition of the T20 World Cup has seen a galla of boundaries, with over 1478 fours and 515 sixes, surpassing the previous 2022 T20 World Cup edition records of 1349 fours and 405 sixes.
  • England’s Chris Jordan holds the record for the best bowling strike rate in any tournament, with a score of 8.3. This comes after Jordan took four wickets in an unprecedented quadruple-wicket maiden against the USA.

Batting Stats Toppers

In such challenging conditions of the West Indies and the USA, the batters of the tournament have not failed to entertain the spectators. With many runs coming out of the willows, it is no surprise that without the bat, there is no intensity and fun in the game’s shortest format.

The tournament’s highest run-scorer title goes to Afghanistan’s wicketkeeper-batter, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who has made 281 runs at an average of 35.12 and strike rate of 124.33.

A batters strike-rate talks about the its impact to score more runs in the minimal and crucial times. The tournament’s best strike rate goes to Phil Salt from England, who counts 159.32.

While the best batting average goes to the fellow Englishman, Harry Brook, with an average of 72.50.

Regarding the best batting innings, Nicholas Pooran’s 98 off 53 balls against Afghanistan is the best, at an 184.90 strike rate.

Bowling Stats Toppers

Compared to the latter, this edition has seen a commendable and impeccable display by the bowlers. With the ability to pace, swing, spin and slow, the bowlers have acted as the game-changers in most matches, making it a tough time for the batters to go for the big shots.

The tournament’s highest wicket-taker title is shared by two promising emerging pacers, Fazalhaq Farooqi (Afghanistan) and Arshdeep Singh (India), who have scalped 17 wickets in their eight matches. This makes them the bowlers to take the most wickets in a single T20 WC edition.

As a bowler’s economy rate defines the impact created by a bowler against the opposition, there have been bowlers who have stood out in such aspects. The Man of the Tournament and India’s reliable pacer, Jasprit Bumrah has got the tournament’s best economy rate of 4.17.

In addition, the best bowler’s average is again the Man of the Tournament, Jasprit Bumrah, who has an average of 8.3 in eight matches.
