The five-time champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), will begin their campaign for the 2026 season of the competition against the Rajasthan Royals on March 30 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, as they have already started their preparations with batters like Ruturaj Gaikwad, MS Dhoni, Ayush Mhatre, and Sarfaraz Khan.

KKR Preparing for IPL 2026 Season

Kolkata Knight Riders are entering IPL 2026 with some new changes in their squad. Ajinkya Rahane will continue as the captain. The head coach of the team is Abhishek Nayar. The team also added former West Indies star Dwayne Bravo as a mentor. The team has signed Australian all-rounder Cameron Green for ₹25.20 crore and Sri Lanka pacer Matheesha Pathirana in the mini-auction. However, bowlers Harshit Rana and Pathirana are currently dealing with injuries.

1. Corbin Bosch

South Africa's all-rounder Corbin Bosch was unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction. After this, Bosch turned to the Pakistan Super League, where he was picked as a diamond pick by Peshawar Zalmi in the draft. However, later, when Mumbai Indians' fast bowler Lizaad Williams got injured and was ruled out, Bosch was signed as a replacement. Following this, the right-handed all-rounder withdrew from the PSL, which led the PCB to issue a one-year ban on him in anger. However, this did not make much difference, and Bosch played the last season of the IPL and was retained by MI in 2026 as well.

2. Kusal Mendis

Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis participated in PSL 2025 and was part of the Quetta Gladiators. However, when a tense situation arose on the border between India and Pakistan, the Pakistan Super League was suspended for some time. After that, Mendis withdrew his name from the league, citing security reasons. Later, he was signed by the Gujarat Titans as a replacement for Jos Buttler, who was not available for the IPL 2025 playoffs due to national duty.

3. Kyle Jamieson

Kyle Jamieson is also among the players who left the PSL for IPL. The New Zealand pacer went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction and later featured for Quetta Gladiators in the PSL. However, during the IPL season, Punjab Kings suffered a setback when their fast bowler Lockie Ferguson was ruled out midway through the tournament due to injury, prompting the franchise to sign Jamieson as a replacement. Following the conclusion of his PSL commitments, there were expectations that he would join the IPL side, but when the PSL was suspended due to border tensions, Jamieson opted not to return and made himself available for the Punjab Kings instead.

4. Mitchell Owen

Australian all-rounder Mitchell Owen was not bought by anyone in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Then he made headlines by scoring 108 runs off 42 balls in the BBL final. After this, he got a chance to play in the Pakistan Super League. However, when Punjab Kings' all-rounder Glenn Maxwell got injured, Owen was named an injury replacement. Initially, Owen was also supposed to come to the IPL after the PSL season, just like Jamieson, but then he did not return and joined the Punjab Kings.

5. Blessing Muzarabani

Blessing Muzarabani is considered an expert fast bowler in T20 cricket and has experience playing around the world. Last season in the IPL, Royal Challengers Bengaluru signed Muzarabani as Lungi Ngidi's temporary replacement. Although he went unsold at the IPL mini-auction, a similar situation occurred in the Pakistan Super League. Later, Islamabad United signed him directly, and he was set to play in PSL 2026, which starts on March 26. However, after Kolkata Knight Riders signed him for the upcoming IPL Season as a replacement for Mustafizur Rahman, Muzarabani had to withdraw from the PSL because both leagues are held at the same time.

1. Royal Challengers Bengaluru

The first name on this list is defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The franchise had to wait 17 seasons to win its maiden IPL title despite being led by several big names, including Virat Kohli. However, in IPL 2025, Rajat Patidar created history by guiding the team to its first trophy. The squad once again looks strong, with key players like Virat Kohli, Phil Salt, Devdutt Padikkal, Krunal Pandya, Tim David, Romario Shepherd, Josh Hazlewood, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Meanwhile, the addition of all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer has further strengthened the squad. The bowling attack has also received a boost with the inclusion of Jacob Duffy, who was the leading wicket-taker in international cricket last year. With a balanced squad and several match-winners, RCB appear to be strong contenders for a playoff spot.

2. Mumbai Indians

Five-time champions Mumbai Indians seem to be strong contenders for a playoff spot in IPL 2026. The biggest reason behind this is the good form of several key players. MI's biggest strength is its experienced Indian players. This includes captain Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Tilak Varma. In batting, there are skilled players like KL Rahul, Ben Duckett, Pathum Nissanka, Prithvi Shaw, David Miller, Nitish Rana, and Tristan Stubbs. In the recently finished ICC Men's T20 World Cup, Kuldeep played only one match. It was the group-stage game against the Pakistan national cricket team in Colombo. In that match, he bowled three overs and took 1 wicket for 14 runs.

The conditions at R. Premadasa Stadium allowed India to play three spinners, and the team won the match by 61 runs. After that, in other matches where the pitch helped batsmen more, the team management chose Varun Chakravarthy as the second spinner along with Axar Patel.
