Rahul Chahar ]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/3-players-mi-should-consider-trading-in-after-ipl-2025-ft-rahul-chahar/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/3-players-mi-should-consider-trading-in-after-ipl-2025-ft-rahul-chahar/ Mon, 09 Jun 2025 17:14:36 GMT

Mumbai Indians (MI), who have won the IPL five times, had a mixed season in IPL 2025. Under captain Hardik Pandya, they started badly by losing four of their first five matches.

But after that, MI made a strong comeback. They won six matches in a row and seven out of their last nine games. Because of this, they finished fourth in the points table and reached the playoffs.

MI won the Eliminator match against Gujarat Titans (GT), but lost to Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 2. For a team with many star players, not reaching the final was a big letdown.

This was also MI’s fifth season without winning the IPL title, which is a long time for such a big team. As they get ready for IPL 2026, MI will try to make their team better and fix the weak spots. In this article, we will talk about 3 players MI should try to trade for after IPL 2025.

1. Rahul Chahar – Good Spin Option

Mumbai Indians (MI) had problems with spin bowling in IPL 2025. Mitchell Santner took 10 wickets in 13 games, Karn Sharma got 7 in 6 matches, and new player Vignesh Puthur took 6 in 5 games before getting injured. But overall, the spin bowling was not strong. Rahul Chahar played only 1 match for SunRisers Hyderabad and bowled just 1 over. So SRH may not keep him next season. MI can bring him back. He played well for MI in 2019 and 2020. He took 41 wickets in 39 matches for MI. His return can fix MI’s spin problem.

2. Aaron Hardie – A Handy All-Rounder

Aaron Hardie was with Punjab Kings in IPL 2025 but did not play. MI can take this chance to bring him in. He played 84 T20 matches, scored 1,464 runs with 6 fifties, and took 41 wickets. He has also played 13 T20s for Australia. MI need another all-rounder if Hardik Pandya is not available. Hardie can fill that role. If both play together, it will help MI a lot.

3. T. Natarajan – Left-Arm Fast Bowler

MI already have good fast bowlers like Boult, Bumrah, and Deepak Chahar. But Deepak gets injured often, and Bumrah needs rest sometimes. Natarajan can be a good backup. He played only 2 games for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025 due to injury. But he is experienced. He played 63 IPL games and took 67 wickets. His yorkers are very good. If fit, he will make MI’s bowling even stronger.

The Punjab Kings have received a huge boost at the moment of need in IPL 2025 with the arrival of dynamic overseas players Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis, Aaron Hardie, and Kyle Jamieson. With the playoffs on the horizon, the addition of the four quality players has provided much-needed depth and balance in all departments. It is expected to bring some confidence and performance to the Kings as they look to secure their first IPL title.

The Kings have created history by qualifying for the playoffs for the first time in 11 years. A recent nail-biting victory over the Rajasthan Royals by 10 runs confirmed a place in the top four, resulting in one of the franchise's highest placements in over 10 years. The core team has performed well, and now with high-quality international players, the Kings are looking the best they have looked for a long time.

Head coach Ricky Ponting preached that this season the team should use natural instincts and attack fearlessly, and it has worked well for the Kings this Season. With the inclusion of Stoinis, who can bowl handy medium pace in addition to being an explosive batter, and Jamieson, who is a reliable fast bowler, the addition brings balance to the playing XI. Inglis and Hardie also have the ability to fit into the batting order, bringing more strategic depth to PBKS's batting lineup.

On the Road to the Playoffs: Punjab Kings are Looking Complete to Finish Strong

The timing of these additions couldn't have been better for Punjab, as they are set to play Delhi Capitals on May 24 for their last league match. If they can seal the game and win it, it would allow them to position themselves further up the points table and potentially allow them to get matched up against a lower-ranked team in the playoffs. With their full-strength lineup, PBKS could better their prospects in comparison to other teams facing injuries and fatigue.

With playoffs coming up, the Punjab Kings are looking more motivated than ever to end their titleless run. With a balanced composition of youth and experience backed with international firepower, Punjab is well positioned to contend for the IPL 2025 trophy.

Steven Smith

Steven Smith, an all time great for Australia, has been in doubt for the T20I side in recent times. With Smith lacking fire-power and considering Mitchell Marsh’s success at number three, Steve Smith was phased out for Tim David, in a bid to add more fire power. In four games at the BBL so far though, Steve Smith has added another point to the debate over his spot in the T20 side. As an opener, he came in for four games, and is the ninth leading run-scorer in the current season, with them most sixes in the tournament and two centuries. He now gave himself a case to make the squad as an opener, and could find himself back with Aaron Finch’s future in the Australian team uncertain.

Matthew Short

Matthew Short from the Adelaide Strikers had his moments in the tournament. With Chris Lynn as his partner, he held his own and also provided one of the best knocks in the BBL with a century to chase down 230. His style of play makes him an asset in T20 Cricket. As an opener he does not take too long to get underway. With the ball too, Matthew Short is very handy. He can chip in with a few overs, and is very useful in the powerplay. On the field too, Short has taken some sharp catches, and with leadership credentials to add too, he has enough on his resume to be considered by the selectors.

Aaron Hardie

Aaron Hardie came into this season on the back of some incredible performances in the Sheffield Shield. He has been a part of the Perth Scorchers for a while and finally got a decent run in the eleven. Replacing Mitchell Marsh, Aaron Hardie started at 6, and performed very well. He was promoted to three later on and continued his good season. Due to injury concerns, he did not bowl too much, but can be a handy bowler on his day.

Josh Inglis

Josh Inglis is another talent who has been on the Australian team fringes for a long time. He missed out on the T20 World Cup with a freakish injury but came back quickly to prove his worth as a middle-order batter. He can open the batting, come up with flashy shots in the middle-order and is a very good wicket-keeper, making him a really good candidate for the wicket-keeper spot after Matthew Wade retires.

Sean Abbott

Sean Abbott is a BBL Champion. He has some incredible numbers in the tournament but always ends up behind the pecking order when it comes to the Australian team. He is still on and around the fringes for the white-ball side, and this season has been as good as any for him. With the big three likely to have their workload managed, Sean Abbott could finally see opportunities come his way in the coming days.

Paddy Dooley

Paddy Dooley with his unique action and leg-spin became a surprise trump card for the Hobart Hurricanes. With 19 wickets in 10 games, he became their go to bowler and is now a massive option for the T20 World Cup which will be played in the West Indies, where the pitches are known to be slow and low.
