Meghalaya cricketer Akash Kumar Choudhary set a new world record during their match against Arunachal Pradesh in the Plate Group of the Ranji Trophy 2025-26, as the cricket world is completely shocked.

Akash Kumar Choudhary records fastest fifty in first-class cricket

Akash Kumar Choudhary created history on the second day of the match, where he recorded an 11-ball fifty to set a new record for the fastest fifty in first-class cricket history. The previous record was a 12-ball fifty by Leicestershire's Wayne White against Essex in 2012. In the meantime, Akash took only nine minutes to complete his fifty. According to the ESPNcricinfo report, as per the ball-by-ball data available, it was the second fastest first-class fifty in terms of minutes, while the record is an eight-minute fifty by Clive Inman for Leicestershire against Nottinghamshire in 1965.

In the next over, Akash continued his raining of sixes by hitting two consecutive sixes to the off-spinner TNR Mohith to complete his third first-class half-century. He remained not out for 50 runs off just 14 balls, as Meghalya declared for 628/6. In reply, Arunachal Pradesh were bundled out for only 73 runs, and after forcing for a follow-on, Arunachal Pradesh ended the second day at 29/3.

With the ball in hand, the right-arm medium fast bowler Akash Kumar Choudhary picked up one wicket in the first innings (4-0-10-1) of Arunachal Pradesh and two wickets in their second innings (4-1-7-2).
