The 29-year-old Australian leg-spinner Alana King stormed with the ball as South Africa Women had no answers. While the Aussie leggie set up a new bowling record in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup history, South Africa Women were bundled out for only 97 runs.

Alana King took seven wickets

It was the match for securing the top position in the points table of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025, as the table topper will face the hosts India Women in the Semi-final of the tournament. After Australia Women chose to bowl first at Indore, they bundled out Proteas for only 97 runs in 24 overs, where Alana King recorded a seven-fer, the very first time in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup history.

In the South African innings, only their opener and skipper Laura Wolvaardt (31), Sinalo Jafta (29), and Nadine de Klerk (14) managed to reach double-digit scores, while there were also three ducks.

Alana King took four wickets before conceding any runs, as she also had one hat-trick opportunity in that period when she dismissed Annerie Dercksen (5) and Chloe Tryon (0) on back-to-back deliveries. King also dismissed Sune Luus (6), Marizanne Kapp (0), Sinalo Jafta (29), Nadine de Klerk (14), and Masabata Klaas (4). She ended the innings with the bowling figures of 7-2-18-7, as four batters were bowled.

Alana King recorded best bowling figures in ICC Women's Cricket World Cup as well as for Australia Women in WODI

It is the new record for the best bowling figures in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup history. The previous record was 8-2-10-6 by Jackie Lord from New Zealand Women against India Women at Auckland in the 1982 edition.

It is also the best Women's ODI bowling figures for an Australian Women bowler. The previous record was 10-4-22-7 by Ellyse Perry against England Women in the 2019 Canterbury WODI. Also, King recorded the fourth best bowling figures in the Women's ODI history.

Pakistan Women stunned the defending champions and record seven-time champions Australia Women in their league stage fixture at the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 at Colombo on Wednesday (October 8), where the Aussies were struggling deeply at 76/7. But then, Beth Mooney and Alana King rescued the Aussies with a stunning record-breaking ninth-wicket partnership.

After Pakistan Women sent Aussies to bat first, the defending champions were seven down at just 76 runs, while they lost their eighth wicket at 115 runs when Kim Garth was dismissed for 11 runs. But Beth Mooney stuck to her crease, while Alana King provided strong support to guide Australia Women to a strong challenging total.

Mooney and King set up a 106-run partnership for the tenth wicket, as that wicket was only broken on the final ball of the innings, where Mooney was dismissed after scoring a brilliant 109 runs off 114 balls with 11 fours. Meanwhile, King remained not out at 51 runs off 49 balls with three fours and three sixes.

Alana King scored a half-century at no. 10

With her 51 not out, Alana King set some great records, which are as follows.

  • King became the first player to hit a half-century among the no.9 or lower-order batters in the Women's Cricket World Cup history.
  • King became the first player to record a 50+ score at no.10 or lower batting positions in the history of Women's ODI.

Alana King hit 3 sixes at no.10

While Alana King hit three sixes after coming to bat at number 10, it was surely a special one.

  • King became the first player to hit three sixes after coming to bat at no.8 or lower positions in the history of the Women's Cricket World Cup.
  • King also became the first player to hit more than one six after coming to bat at the no.10 or lower positions in the Women's ODI history.

Beth Mooney and Alana King set a century partnership for the 10th wicket

Mooney-King's century partnership was another special story in that innings. They added a 106-run partnership for the 10th wicket.

  • It is the highest Women's ODI partnership for ninth or lower wickets. The previous record was a 77-run partnership for the ninth wicket between Ashleigh Gardner and Kim Garth (Australia Women) against South Africa Women at North Sydney in 2024.
  • It is the highest partnership, actually the first century partnership, for the eighth or lower wickets in the history of the Women's Cricket World Cup. The previous record was a 76-run partnership between Kristen Beams and Alex Blackwell (Australia Women) against India Women at Derby in the Semi-final of the World Cup 2017.

Southern Brave Women bowled brilliantly and then chased down the target calmly to beat Trent Rockets by six wickets in The Hundred Women’s Competition at Trent Bridge. Captain Georgia Adams chose to bowl first, and it worked perfectly. Young Tilly Corteen-Coleman, just 17, struck twice in her first over, removing Bryony Smith (10) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (0) with help from a sharp stumping by Rhianna Southby.

Rockets captain Ashleigh Gardner tried to fight back with a quick 25 off 16 balls, but her team kept losing wickets. From 36-2 after the powerplay, they crumbled to 55-8. Corteen-Coleman finished with amazing figures of 4-13, while Lauren Bell took 3-16 and became the first woman to reach 50 wickets in The Hundred.

Alana King (24) and Kirstie Gordon (32) gave Rockets hope with a record 50-run stand for the last wicket, taking them to 106. In the chase, Brave lost Danni Wyatt-Hodge (4) and Laura Wolvaardt (1) early, but Maia Bouchier (43) and Sophie Devine kept things steady. Freya Kemp (14) added quick runs before Devine’s unbeaten 41 sealed the win with two balls left. Corteen-Coleman called it a great team effort and said the squad is working hard to prove themselves this season.
