It was the second Ashes 2005 Test at Edgbaston in 2005. The excitement around the United Kingdom about the game was huge. Everyone had an eye on the Tests as Australia took a 0-1 lead in the opening fixture at Lord’s. The home side batted first and posted 407 runs on the board with several half-centuries in the first innings.

Australia also got several starts in the second innings, while Justin Langer ended with 82 runs, and Ricky Ponting, the leader, scored 61 runs. Then came the most famous over of the series from Flintoff. It was the 13th over of the fourth innings. Langer, the left-handed batter, pushed the very first ball of the over into the point region. The Lancashire all-rounder pulled the length back a little as it jagged back to the southpaw and disturbed the stumps.

The entire crowd went wild as the home side found its energy back. Ponting was the next batter at number three. He faced the first ball, which changed its direction and hurried on to the pads of the right-handed batter, as the umpire, Billy Bowden, shook his head. Flintoff kept the same line and length on the fourth ball as Ponting got an outside edge into the gully.

Suddenly, there was an incredible change around the ground. Ponting was lucky to get away on the fifth delivery as the ball hit his pad outside the off-stump. But he couldn’t do much on the sixth and last delivery of the over. Before that, it was a no-ball that the batter left outside the off stump.

On the last ball, Flintoff got the ball on the fifth stump line as the Tasmania batter went for a huge drive and ended up getting an outside edge on the bat. The England bowler ended with figures of 4/79 in 22 overs as the visitors were bundled out for 279 runs. England leveled the series with a victory by two runs.

It was a thriller everybody has spent the night raving about. Brett Lee along with Michael Kasprowicz added a phenomenal 59- run stand to reduce the deficit.

But it was Steve Harmison, who got hold of the wicket of well set Kasprowicz and Australia’s hope simmered down. The wicket came at a juncture where Australia were just three runs away from the victory. On the other hand, a valiant 43 runs inning from Brett Lee bore no desired result.

Former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has made a surprising revelation, saying he was close to signing with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) for a bout against wrestling legend The Undertaker. The deal was proposed shortly after Flintoff retired from international cricket in 2010. The former cricketer, who played 227 matches for England, admitted he was unsure of his next steps after retirement and was exploring new avenues—including an unexpected leap into professional wrestling.

"I just hid for a bit and started to wonder, 'What am I going to do now?'
Some of the TV offers started to come, which was never the plan—I stumbled into that. I nearly joined the WWE. I didn't want to box; that was never the plan! I would have been called 'Big Fred'!" he said during a conversation on The Overlap's Stick to Cricket. Flintoff explained that during his time in Dubai, he found himself out of shape and needed motivation to get fit again. His childhood love for WWE sparked an ambitious idea.

"What happened was, it got to a point in Dubai where I was unfit; I'd put weight on, and I was just not in a good place. I wanted to get fit again, but I needed motivation. As a kid, I loved WWE, so I came up with this idea because I was doing League of Their Own with Sky to fight The Undertaker in Manchester."

WWE Offered Obscene Money, But Family Came First

The idea began to gain traction quickly. "I wrote this treatment up and presented the idea to Sky; it started gathering momentum, and the next minute it's being passed onto WWE. I was in contact with the WWE, Vince McMahon!" he revealed. WWE's response was swift and serious, with an offer to fast-track him into major events like WrestleMania and Royal Rumble.

"Two weeks later, I got an email from WWE, saying, 'You can't do your documentary because you'll give the secrets away; we want to put you on a three-year contract.' They said, 'We'll fast-track you, and in 18 months you'll be at WrestleMania and Royal Rumble.' The money was obscene, but we wanted to move back from Dubai. The kids wanted to play cricket and didn't want to go to America, so I just changed it to boxing and had a fight instead."
