On the 26th encounter of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025, Guyana Amazon Warriors locked horns with the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. The visiting captain, Imad Wasim, won the toss and decided to bowl first on a surface which was expected to help the spinners.

Guyana decided to retain the same playing eleven for the clash against Antigua, with Moeen Ali being slotted to open the batting. On the other hand, Barbuda made just one change to the side as Usama Mir replaced Obed McCoy in the eleven for this vital fixture.

Guyana Amazon Warriors fold up for 99 in first innings

The beginning of the batting, with 15 runs coming in 3.4 overs, was a prime example of how hard the deck was for the batsmen. The number three and wicket-keeper batter, Shai Hope, clubbed 26 runs in 14 deliveries at a strike rate of 185.71, thanks to three boundaries and one six as they suddenly found themselves 58/6 in less than 10 overs.

Jayden Seales got the right line and length on the surface with four wickets in 3.1 overs, while Usama Mir picked up three wickets in four overs. None of the lower-order batters for the Guyana side were able to stand as they were bundled out for 99 runs in 18.1 overs.

Amir Jangoo shoulders Antigua through with four wickets in hand

Barbuda also went through the same situation with the bat in the second innings. They were reduced to 24/4 in 4.1 overs as Shakib Al Hasan got dismissed for one run in two balls, while Karima Gore got a first-ball duck. That was a hard surface to bat on.

However, Amir Jangoo showed his patience and temperament, remaining undefeated on 51 runs in 57 deliveries at a strike rate of nearly 90 with the help of three boundaries and two sixes to carry them over the line by four wickets in hand in 19.1 overs.

The former Bangladesh captain and veteran all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan, has added another feather in his successful career with his 500th wicket in the shortest format during the ongoing 2025 season of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), featuring for the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons. He earned the feat against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

The left-arm spinner, Shakib Al Hasan, is now the fifth leading wicket-taker of the shortest format with 502 scalps as he stays behind Rashid Khan, Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine, and Imran Tahir. On the 15th over of the innings, Shakib reached the milestone on the third delivery when Jayden Seales grabbed a fine catch on the boundary line.

Shakib created another chance in the same over when the Pakistan ODI captain, Mohammed Rizwan, went for a huge shot only to get a top edge before ending up in the hands of the bowler. He was stuck again in the next over to finish with a fine spell of 3/11 in three overs. Shakib joins a successful list of bowlers.

Shakib Al Hasan becomes first player in T20s to complete double of 7000 runs and 500 wickets

He is the only player in the history of the shortest format to complete both 7000 runs and 500 wickets, with the closest being the former West Indies captain, Dwayne Bravo, who has 631 wickets and 6970 runs. Andre Russell has scored 9361 runs and needs another 13 wickets to earn the feat.

Shakib’s legacy is further elevated by the nine player of the series awards in T20s, the most by a cricketer. He stands ahead of Virat Kohli and Wanindu Hasaranga in the list. Among all the spinners, none of them has more five-wicket hauls than Shakib, who has achieved the feat five times. This puts him in the joint-second place with Lasith Malinga, Shaheed Adridi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Tahir, who are trailing David Wiese (7).

In 436 innings of the T20s where he has bowled at least two overs, 41.51% of % time Shakib’s economy rate stays under six, which is 181 times out of 436. He is behind Narine, Rashid, and Imad Wasim in the list.

Mohammed Amir, the left-arm experienced Pakistan pacer, has always been a vital member of the shortest format. He has the skill to pick up wickets with the new ball inside the powerplay and create problems for the opponent batters in the death overs, using the yorkers and the change of pace. And he continued the same during the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025.

During the recent game for the Trinbago Knight Riders, Mohammed Amir celebrated a great record in the shortest format of the game. It was the third ball of the 19th over of the first innings from the left-arm pacer as Fabian Allen drilled the ball away from his arc, aiming for a huge boundary.

But the right-handed batter didn’t get the elevation on the bat as Darren Bravo picked a fine catch. That was Amir’s first wicket of the evening, and he became the ninth bowler in the T20s to cross the 400-mark in the wickets column. He also became the second bowler from Pakistan for the celebration, as Wahab Riaz stands above him with 413 wickets in 344 innings.

Watch: Mohammed Amir creates new T20 record during ongoing CPL 2025

The 33-year-old has overall picked up 71 T20I wickets in 61 innings at an average of under 22 and a strike rate of 18.6 with the best figures of 4/13 in an innings. Overall, the left-arm pacer has recorded 400 wickets in 336 innings at an average of 22.54 and a strike rate of 18.4 with an economy rate of 7.33, with eight four-wicket hauls and two five-wicket hauls.

The home side, Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, during the CPL 2025 clash, posted 167/6 on the board with Allen putting 45 runs in 20 balls and Imad Wasim remaining unbeaten on 39 runs in 27 balls. That looked like a decent score on the surface at the Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.

Trinbago wasn’t consistent in the chase. Colin Muro played a crucial knock of 44 runs in 18 balls, while Kieron Pollard remained unbeaten on 43 runs in 28 balls. But Pollard’s knock wasn’t enough to chase down the target as they faced an eight-run defeat.

On the seventh game of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025, the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons met the Trinbago Knight Riders at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua. The touring captain, Nicholas Pooran, won the toss and decided to do the most-anticipated job of bowling first.

The home side decided to leave out Allah Ghazanfar from the playing eleven as Usama Mir, the Pakistan spinner, gets his chance. For the Knight Riders, they made a couple of changes. Darren Bravo and Nathan Edwards came into the eleven while Terrance Hinds and Joshua Da Silva got out of the side.

Antigua and Barbuda Falcons post 167/6 thanks to late firepower

The home side didn’t make a great start in the first innings, losing three wickets inside the first nine overs for just 55 runs. They were soon reduced to 77/5 in the 14th over, with the Knight Riders’ spinner showing their dominance with a change of pace and line and length.

Fabian Allen also creamed a fine knock of 45 runs in just 20 balls at a strike rate of 225, shouldering on three boundaries and as many sixes to post 167/6 in their allotted 20 overs.

Trinbago Knight Riders fail in chase by eight runs

Colin Munro, who smashed a fine century in their opening clash, continued the dominance and drilled 44 runs in 18 balls at a strike rate of 244.44, with the help of eight boundaries and one six. Both Alex Hales and Pooran struggled while the required run rate slowly increased and put pressure on the visitors.

Kieron Pollard, the former captain, drilled an unbeaten knock of 43 runs in 28 balls at a strike rate of over 150 with the help of three boundaries and four sixes. But it wasn’t enough to save them from the eight-run defeat.
