A few days ago, the fans got the first appearance of Virat Kohli after he announced his Test retirement just three weeks before the start of the five-match series between England and India. Even though the veteran has stepped away from the game in the longest format, he is still winning several hearts with his heartwarming gestures on various occasions. 

The former Indian captain recently made a public appearance in London during a charity event, hosted by his former team-mate and the famous all-rounder, Yuvraj Singh. The event saw many other ex-players, including Brian Lara, Kevin Pietersen, and Sachin Tendulkar, turn up along with the current red-ball series. The program was for supporting Yuvraj’s YouWeCan Foundation.

However, amidst all the players and the legends, it was Virat Kohli’s simple and sweet gesture that stole the show and the internet. A video went viral on social media where Kohli was seen seated next to the former England batter, Pietersen. One of the unseen friends asked Kohli about his family, to which the veteran waved his hands from a distance.

It didn’t stop there. It seemed like Kohli’s friend asked him about his wife, Anushka Sharma, the famous Bollywood actress, and his children. The dinner event was just a few days after Kohli and Anushka were spotted enjoying the Wimbledon 2025 Round, where they watched the Tennis game between the legendary Novak Djokovic and Australia’s Alex de Minaur, where the former defeated the latter. This was Kohli’s very first appearance before the public since they won their maiden title in the IPL 2025 for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

The Delhi-born ended his Test career as the country’s fourth leading run-getter with 9230 runs in 210 innings at an average of 46.85, shouldering 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 254 runs. He is expected to turn for the national side if they make the probable trip to Sri Lanka. Otherwise, he will fly to Australia for the upcoming ODI series in September.

Former Indian captain Virat Kohli is currently enjoying his break from cricket, as he and his wife Anushka Sharma are present at the iconic Grand Slam tennis tournament, the 2025 Wimbledon Championships. 

Wimbledon Championships, popularly known as Wimbledon, is the oldest tennis tournament in the world, which has been running since 1877. While there are four Grand Slam tournaments every year, Wimbledon is known as the most prestigious and cultural tennis tournament. Former Indian captain Virat Kohli has retired from T20I and Test cricket and is only active in the ODI format. While the Indian cricket team is busy in the England tour for the five-match Test series, Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, Kohli is in the mood after the successful IPL 2025 campaign, where his team Royal Challengers Bengaluru lifted the IPL trophy for the first time.

Virat Kohli is currently in London, so it was no surprise to see him enjoying a day out at Wimbledon 2025. The former Indian Test captain, who announced his retirement from Test cricket earlier this year, was seen watching the Men’s Round of 16 match between Novak Djokovic and Australia’s Alex de Minaur. Djokovic, last year’s finalist, didn’t disappoint. Even after losing the first set 1-6, he bounced back strongly to win the match in four sets: 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.

Many fans thought Kohli would travel to England for the five-match Test series against the hosts. But just before the squad was announced, he surprised everyone by stepping away from the longest format. Virat and Anushka in deep anguish following the horror stampede 

In view of the grim incident, the RCB franchise issued a post on social media to acknowledge the loss of 11 people in the stampede and also issued heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. The post was later shared by Anushka Sharma on her social media account. Speaking of the tragic incident, both Anushka and Virat were shaken to the core as their heart went out to those who lost their lives in the victory parade stampede. 

The statement reiterated the franchise's commitment to supporter safety while both Virat and Anushka conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the fallen souls who had turned up to get a taste of the historic moment. As soon as the team was made aware of the unfortunate happenings in the close vicinity, the parade was cut short. The tragedy at the RCB victory parade day has attracted the ire of the fans, with many blaming the authorities and the ruling Congress party for not being able to implement adequate crowd control measures. Even the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has not been able to evade blame, and there seems to be a growing amount of pressure on them for allowing the situation to escalate to a point where RCB's maiden title win has been overshadowed by the loss of people. 

It was a night to remember for the RCB fans as RCB pulled off an unbelievable victory and chased down a record 228 at the EKNA Stadium, a feat that had never been achieved before at this venue in the history of IPL. After being corned for 70-3, Virat tried to push on but eventually succumbed against the run of play after getting to his fifty. Just when it appeared that RCB were drifting off course, the stand-in captain Jitesh Sharma led from the front and did what no one would have anticipated from him. He launched a scathing attack on the LSG bowlers and miraculously saved the day for RCB with an inspiring knock of 85* (33) to drag his side over the line in the high-octane run chase. 

The entire RCB unit erupted in joy following their euphoric win. There were smiles all around, and everyone hugged and greeted each other. But one particular moment stood out the most. Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma recently delighted the fans with a heartwarming display of affection. Following RCB's six-wicket triumph, Anushka, who was in the stands, sent a flying kiss to Virat, who in turn returned the gesture, resulting in a heartwarming moment that rapidly gained traction on social media.

Virat Kohli and his wife, Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, went on another spiritual outing, this time at the sacred Ayodhya Dham. Kohli and Anushka were surrounded by heavy security protection as a huge crowd gathered there to witness the star couple's visit to the Hanuman Garhi temple in Ayodhya.

Hanuman Garhi temple, dedicated to Lord Hanuman, holds significant spiritual significance in Ayodhya Dham. Despite their star status, Virat and Anushka obeyed all the rules in the temple like common pilgrims. This is something which was also very well appreciated by the fans who were present there as well as on social media.

The former India skipper was spotted in a cream-colored kurta, bowing in respect with folded hands to the god, while Anushka donned a pink salwar suit, depicting an all-Indian culture in a single frame. In his retirement note through his Instagram post, he said, "It’s been 14 years since I first wore the baggy blue in Test cricket. Honestly, I never imagined the journey this format would take me on. It’s tested me, shaped me, and taught me lessons I’ll carry for life. There’s something deeply personal about playing in whites. The quiet grind, the long days, the small moments that no one sees but that stay with you forever. As I step away from this format, it’s not easy — but it feels right. Due to adverse weather conditions in South India, including Bengaluru, players had to stay indoors during the high time of IPL 2025. For some refreshments and mind-boosting purposes, team management arranged a pickleball event where all players of RCB and their family members and staff were invited to play.

So, on that special occasion, Virat paired up with Sharma, and they together both enjoyed the game. RCB shared multiple photos followed by a video of this event where we can see players, staff, and many other members associated with the team present for the indoor game.

Change in venue for a couple of RCB matches

Like Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma, RCB batting mentor Dinesh Karthik was there with his wife and Indian squash star Dipika Pallikal in attendance. Royal Challengers Bengaluru, already qualified for the playoffs, is set to face off against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The match was actually scheduled to happen at Bengaluru, but due to constant rain threats, the match shifted from Bengaluru to Lucknow. After the conclusion of the Hyderabad clash, the Rajat Patidar-led side will take on Lucknow Super Giants at Lucknow. The Red and Black will push themselves all the way for victories in both matches to make sure of a place in the top two.

Virat Kohli, one of cricket’s greatest icons, recently announced his retirement from Test cricket after a stellar 14-year career where he amassed 9,230 runs in 123 Tests. Following that announcement, there has been much speculation about where he goes next; some are saying pickleball may be in his future. The former Indian captain was spotted playing the game with his wife, Anushka Sharma, at a Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team event inu, which made for quite the buzz, especially the sight of Kohli having fun with a teammate, Dinesh Karthik, and squash star Dipika Pallikal.

The pickleball event came about due to a rainout of an RCB practice session and included Kohli enjoying the game with teammate Karthik and Pallikal. Based on his behavior at the event, Kohli may be interested in the game. Fans posted on X about Kohli playing pickleball, with one person mentioning, “Bro already started playing a new sport!” The nature of pickleball makes it perfect for retired sports stars; it is good on the body and does not require as much physical strain as other sports. The parallel to Kohli’s competitive nature seems to be potentially aligning with the sport of pickleball, and it is growing fast, which has started to attract athletes from all sports. Overall, the sport should be enticing to Kohli. There are reports that many Bollywood and Hollywood stars or former tennis players have taken an interest in pickleball, which may influence Kohli's attention to the sport.

While Kohli has stated he wants to take a considerable amount of time off after retiring, his recent night out playing pickleball indicates that he will at least be testing the waters of new sports after retirement. A 2024 interview with RCB stated he will have no regrets in his career, which could indicate a new direction that would allow him to participate in something competitive without the full-fledged violence and expectation of professional Cricket. If pickleball is an avenue he explores seriously or just to have fun, he already created some buzz with his appearance in the sport. 

Kohli’s Potential Pickleball Journey

Kohli's capabilities as a hardcore-nose athlete and relentless effort could make him a force in pickleball. His hand-eye coordination, quick reaction time, and game plan from years of Cricket would allow him to dominate the sport's chaotic back-and-forth rallies. If he decides to pursue pickleball competitively, he could go the route of former Tennis stars, use his world fame to help elevate the sport in India.
