Virat Kohli returned to India a few days ago and visited Mumbai, besides making a trip to Delhi, perhaps spending a couple of days at home. It has been a long time since he has stayed long in this country despite not being part of any competitive cricket. The right-handed batter took his retirement from the longest and shortest formats of the game in June this year. 

Virat Kohli went to Australia for the three-match ODI series before heading home for a couple of weeks’ rest when the Indian side was taking part in the five-match T20I series down under. The veteran again returned home to feature in the three-match ODI series against South Africa before returning to the United Kingdom for just a handful of days.

Now a video has gone viral around the social media where Kohli has been seen to be travelling with his wife, Anushka Sharma, to Alibaug to perhaps spend some time off before a hectic few weeks where he will play a couple of games for Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025/26 before featuring in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand at home.

Kohli didn’t do well in the three-match series down under, where he returned with two ducks in the first couple of clashes in Adelaide and Perth before smashing a fine half-century with the bat in Sydney, along with an unbeaten stand with centurion Rohit Sharma to win the contest for the Blue Brigade.

Once he returned to India, the form went up, and he recorded two successive centuries against the Proteas in Ranchi and Raipur. When the target was not a big one, it remained unbeaten on an aggressive half-century in the third ODI in Vizag to clinch the series by a 21-run margin for the Indian side.

With form and fitness on his side, there must not be any question about Kohli being on track for the upcoming 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

A day after the recent India vs South Africa ODI match in Vizag, where India emerged as the winner, Virat Kohli visited the Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple in Simhachalam. He was accompanied by all-rounder Washington Sundar, fielding coach T. Dilip, and some officials of the Andhra Cricket Association. 

Virat Kohli made a strong comeback by scoring his 84th international century in the second ODI against South Africa in Raipur. It was also his 53rd ODI hundred, the most by any player in the format. After scoring a match-winning century in the first ODI at Ranchi, Kohli continued his great form with a brilliant 90-ball ton that included seven fours and two sixes.

India batted first on a friendly batting pitch. Young opener Ruturaj Gaikwad supported Kohli with an amazing knock, scoring his first ODI century in just his eighth match. Together, the duo built a powerful 195-run partnership for the third wicket and completely dominated the South African bowlers.

Shortly after Gaikwad was dismissed for 105, Kohli reached his landmark ton in the very next over, sending the crowd into celebration once again. Virat Kohli also extended his lead over Sachin Tendulkar in terms of ODI centuries, moving four centuries ahead of the Master Blaster. His 84 international hundreds now place him second on the all-time list, only behind Tendulkar’s 100. Among active players, he is far ahead of the next best, Joe Root, who has 58 centuries. Meanwhile, Kohli (102) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (105) powered India to 358/5 with their 195-run stand, as South African bowlers struggled throughout the innings.
