Just before the beginning of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025, co-hosts India Women have suffered a huge blow while playing the warm-up fixture against England Women. All-rounder Arundhati Reddy suffered a knee injury, which seemed really horrible.

India Women chose to field first in their warm-up game against England Women at the BCCI CEG ground in Bengaluru on Thursday (September 25). In the 13th over of England Women's innings, while Heather Knight struck a straight drive, it directly hit the right-arm medium fast bowler Arundhati Reddy's left knee, as she was in the follow through at that moment. It massively hurt the Indian all-rounder as she completely fell on the pitch and was struggling in pain.

The Indian medical team quickly went to Reddy for the treatment, while the on-field cricketers seemed concerned about the player. She struggled to stand as she couldn't put her left leg on the ground due to her injury. She required a wheelchair to leave the field. While two more balls were required to finish that over, Jemimah Rodrigues completed that over.

The ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 will begin on September 30 and will run till November 2. There is very little time remaining for Reddy to recover, and the injury seemed very harsh for her. Her injury status is yet to be confirmed.

Arundhati Reddy has taken 15 ODI wickets

In the warm-up match, Reddy dismissed the English opener Amy Jones for 39 runs. She had the bowling figures of 4.4-0-34-1. In the recently concluded home Women's ODI series against Australia Women, Reddy recorded four wickets in two games. The 28-year-old has recorded 15 wickets in 11 ODIs.

Apart from the 15-member squad, India Women also have five reserves as Tejal Hasabnis, Prema Rawat, Priya Mishra, Sayali Satghare, and Minnu Mani. Sayali Satghare is the pacer among the reserves, and she can replace Reddy in case the all-rounder unluckily fails to recover on time.

The latest ICC Women’s T20I rankings update reflects the exciting shifts triggered by the ongoing India-England series, with players from both sides making significant moves across the charts.

India’s Arundhati Reddy is emerging as a key weapon with the ball, climbing 11 spots to reach equal 43rd in the T20I bowling rankings. The right-arm seamer delivered a match-changing spell in the third T20I at The Oval, taking three vital wickets that kept India in the contest till the end. Her rise adds further depth to India’s pace attack, especially in the absence of more senior bowlers.

England's narrow five-run victory at the same venue not only secured the series for them but also sparked gains for several of their players. Young quick Lauren Filer was one of the standout performers, leaping 21 places to equal 68th, while Issy Wong climbed three spots to 57th after her disciplined showing. Lauren Bell, England’s pace spearhead, held firm at No. 4 among T20I bowlers, underlining her consistency at the highest level.

Rodrigues, Wyatt-Hodge, and Dunkley rise in T20I rankings after strong performances in the India-England series

On the batting front, Australia’s Beth Mooney continues to hold onto the top spot, but the competition is heating up just outside the top 10. India’s Jemimah Rodrigues moves up two places to 12th after her fluent half-century in Bristol, a reminder of her class and ability to anchor innings under pressure.

England’s openers were the headline act at The Oval, where Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Sophia Dunkley put on a scintillating 137-run opening stand. Wyatt-Hodge’s aggressive knock lifted her to 14th in the batter rankings, a jump of three spots, while Dunkley’s fluent strokeplay earned her a rise of four positions to 26th.

Sophie Ecclestone also enjoyed a fruitful outing with the bat, scoring a career-best 35 in the second match. The contribution has propelled her up three places to 8th on the T20I all-rounder rankings, reinforcing her value as a genuine three-dimensional player.

With the series delicately poised and the T20 World Cup not far away, these performances and ranking shifts could prove crucial in team strategies and confidence going forward.
