The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, Devajit Saikia, has dropped a massive update on them receiving the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from ACC chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the interior minister of Pakistan. Naqvi didn’t give the trophy to the Suryakumar Yadav-led side after they refused to collect it from his hands.

The entire Asia Cup 2025 has seen several controversies regarding the India vs Pakistan clashes due to the Pahalgam terror attack in the middle of the year. India’s captain didn’t shake hands at the toss, and the trend continued even after earning victory in the fixtures till the final.

"Yes, we are a little bit unhappy with the way the trophy has not been given to us, even after a month. We are pursuing this matter. About 10 days ago, we also wrote a letter to the chairman of ACC, but there is no change in their stand. They are still keeping the trophy under their custody, but we hope that the trophy will reach us in a day or two at the BCCI office in Mumbai.” Devajit Saikia told the PTI videos.

Saikia mentioned that if the trophy is not handed over to the BCCI soon, then they would take the issue to the International Cricket Council (ICC) in the upcoming meeting, which is scheduled to take place on November 04 in Dubai.

“On behalf of BCCI, we are fully prepared for how to deal with the matter, and I can assure the people of India that the trophy will come back to India; only the timeline is not fixed. One day it will come. We have won all matches against Pakistan and won the trophy. We have won the championship. Everything is on record. Only the trophy is missing.” Saikia addressed.

The presentation ceremony took place in the final, but the Indian team didn’t receive the trophy from Naqvi. They were seen celebrating without the title on the stage at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

After Rinku Singh smashed a boundary through covers to win the Asia Cup 2025 against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), there was nearly a wait of one and a half hour before the presentation party. It was reported that the Suryakumar Yadav-led side wasn’t prepared to accept the title from the chairman of ACC, Mohsin Naqvi.

Mohsin Naqvi later escaped with the trophy, and India had to pose for the pictures without the cup. The reports of Cricbuzz have revealed that the silverware, which was carried away from the Dubai stadium after the Indian team refused to accept it from Naqvi, is locked up in the ACC office in Dubai at present.

The instructions have been issued by Naqvi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) staff that it shouldn’t be moved from the office without his authorization. It’s housed within the ICC academy in Dubai and is staffed by only two employees.

India to finally receive their winning Asia Cup 2025 trophy after this meeting

The core issue is how the entire process will be solved. At the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the ACC in Dubai on September 30, it was decided that the five-Test playing nations under the ACC- India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh- would take care of the unresolved matter and come to a conclusion. Their meeting is scheduled to happen next month, coinciding with the ICC’s quarterly gathering in Dubai.

But things won’t be that simple if Naqvi doesn’t turn up for the meeting. It’s not confirmed that Naqvi will attend the meeting. He had stayed away from the ICC Annual Conference in July, and some believe that there is a chance that he would send his representatives to the meeting, which is going to take place from November 04 to 07.

In such a situation, the deadlock could persist. The trophy may continue to get dust in the ACC official. A lot will depend on how the BCCI handles the entire situation. They are not helpless and may take now actions to ensure that the Indian team receives the prize they won.

In the Asia Cup 2025 final, the southpaw scored 69 not out against 53 deliveries with three 4s and four 6s. India won the match by 5 wickets, chasing a target of 147 runs.

Pakistan fast bowler Ihsanullah claimed through a video message that he observed how Abhishek batted in the Asia Cup. The bowler was confident that he will easily be able to clinch the wicket of the India batter. Taking a step further, Ihsanullah said that he will take Sharma's wicket in 3 balls; the batsman will not be able to survive even for an over against him.

Who is Ihsanullah? Ihsanullah is a Pakistani cricketer who bowls right-arm fast. He played for Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The 6 ft 5 inch pacer has so far played 1 ODI and 4 T20Is for the Pakistan cricket team. He last played for Pakistan in April 2023 against New Zealand. During his brief international cricket career with the Pakistan cricket team, he did not get any notable success so far and has been out of the team for about a couple of years. 

BCCI is trying to push for the removal of ACC President Mohsin Naqvi, and there are reports that the Board has proposed a deal with the Sri Lanka board. This deal is to send retired cricket stars to participate in the 2025 Lanka Premier League.

The BCCI, after the move, has vowed to take action against the ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi; they had also threatened to dethrone him from the position of chairperson of the Asian Cricket Council.

Reports Reveal BCCI’s Plan and PCB’s Response

"BCCI is trying to push Chairman ACC Mohsin Naqvi down in the Asian Cricket Council," claimed reports from Pakistani reporter Abubakar Bin Tallat. "Their plan? Offering Sri Lanka’s board a deal: send India’s recently retired cricket stars (think big names!) to play in the 2025 Lanka Premier League," the reports from the abovementioned source also revealed.

"But PCB will not be backing down, and Naqvi is ready to stand strong and protect the influence in Asian cricket," the reporter added. Mohsin Naqvi, the Asian Cricket Council chief, was reported to be honoured by his country's government for his stance against India in the Asia Cup final. While the actions following the Asia Cup final in Dubai were criticised by several cricket boards around the globe, it seems a matter of pride for Pakistan.

As per the reports, the award ceremony would include Naqvi being honoured with a gold medal, while PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was invited as the chief guest, though the date has not been finalised yet.

India secured the Asia Cup 2025 title by defeating Pakistan in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, following an unbeaten campaign. The Suryakumar Yadav-led side got the better of the Pakistan side in three successive encounters, including the group-stage and Super 4 stage of the tournament. But there was a twist in the presentation ceremony. 

The Indian contingent didn’t want the PCB chief, Mohsin Naqvi, to hand over the trophy, which the former had escaped with. A few days later, he revealed that because he appeared to be a cartoon during the ceremony, he would now want India to come and collect the title from his office. “As far as the trophy is concerned, based on what we heard and saw, we did not get the trophy. Our players and management were waiting. We found out that the trophy wasn’t given. The players were made to wait for a long time, and the trophy was taken back. They went to play cricket and won the final.” Tewatia expressed during a recent interaction on ANI.

Despite not receiving the trophy, the Indian team’s spirits didn’t take a hit as they kept celebrating without a cup. Their photoshoot took place with an invisible trophy. “In history, the name of the person who won the final is often recorded, regardless of whether the trophy was awarded or not. They did not give us the trophy. That’s their headache. India won the final. By taking the trophy back, the Pakistan team has not won it.” Tewatia informed.

After the end of the Asia Cup 2025, India earned a three-day victory over the West Indies side in the opening Test of the two-match series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The second fixture will take place on October 10 in New Delhi.

On October 01, 2025, Naqvi revealed that the Indian team is free and welcome to collect the Asia Cup trophy from him at the continental body’s head office in Dubai. Tuesday's ACC meeting had a heated conversation between the ACC and PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, and BCCI representatives Rajiv Shukla and Ashish Shelar, who joined the meeting virtually. Naqvi hasn't agreed to return the trophy to the Indian team during the meeting, while he only congratulated India for winning the Asia Cup 2025 after Shelar forced him.

Team India is yet to receive their hard-earned Asia Cup 2025, which was taken away by Mohsin Naqvi, who is not only ACC's (Asian Cricket Council) chairman but also the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Pakistani Interior Minister. BCCI demands to return the trophy as soon as possible.
