The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has posted a unique video on social media of them revealing their 2025/26 trophy for the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) as the final of the tournament took place at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka between the Chattogram Royals and Rajshahi Warriors.

A chartered flight was seen flying over the ground before the start of the final as massive members of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) made their way to the ground with the titles before the two respective captains, Najmul Hussain Shanto and Mehedi Hassan Miraz, picked up their pictures with the trophy.

Notably, the hot take around Bangladesh cricket at the moment is their non-participation in the T20 World Cup 2026, as the ICC has asked them to travel to India, which they are not ready to follow due to security concerns, and wrote to the International Cricket Council within two letters. In that case, Scotland is set to replace them in the tournament.

During the final, Rajshahi Warriors posted 174 for the loss of four wickets in their allotted 20 overs of the first innings. Their opening better, Tanzid Hasan, celebrated 100 runs in 62 deliveries at a strike rate of more than 160, thanks to his six boundaries and seven sixes, while Kane Williamson, at number 3, blasted 24 runs in 15 balls with the help of two boundaries and 16.

The Chattogram Royals were not in the chase as they lost five wickets within the 13 overs of the chase for just 76 runs on the board, as only their opening batter, Mirza Baig, stood in the middle for 38 unbeaten runs in 34 balls. Apart from him, every single batter continues to struggle from top to bottom.

Hassan Murad was excellent for his two wickets for 11 runs in a three-over spell, while the left-arm pacer from Sri Lanka, Binura Fernando, picked up two crucial wickets in his first two overs at an economy rate of just 3.5.

Brief Scores: Chattogram Royals 111/9 (Mirza Baig 39, Binura Fernando 4/9) vs Rajshahi Warriors 174/4 (Tanzid Hasan 100, Mukidul Islam 2/20),

The Bangladesh Premier League 2025-26 Final will be played between Chattogram Royals (CHR) and Rajshahi Warriors (RJW), which will be held at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, on Friday, January 23. The two teams have played each other three times this season, and Chattogram Royals have come up victorious in two instances, while Rajshahi Warriors have managed one. Therefore, we have a closely contested decisive match.

Chattogram Royals, under the leadership of Mahedi Hasan, have been one of the most consistent sides this season too and have topped the league table, winning six out of 10 league stage matches and securing their spot in the final with a comprehensive win over the Rajshahi Warriors in Qualifier-1. With momentum on their side, the Royals will be confident heading into the title clash.

Rajshahi Warriors, captained by Najmul Hossain Shanto, ended the league phase at the top of the table after winning eight of their 10 matches. Although they lost Qualifier 1 to Chattogram, they bounced back strongly by defeating Sylhet Titans in Qualifier 2 to secure a spot in the final. They will be eager to turn the tables and lift the trophy.

CHR vs RJW: Pitch Report

The Mirpur surface has been slow and spin-friendly in recent games. Batting has been tough, and teams have found it hard to score quickly. Spinners are expected to play a significant role again, and another low to medium-scoring match may be likely.

The uncertainty around the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) has ended. The BCB has lifted the suspension and confirmed that the tournament will resume on Friday, January 16. The two matches originally scheduled for January 15 will now be played on January 16. The announcement was made during a press conference by BCB director Iftekhar Rahman Mithu.

Mithu met with senior players, including Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Mohammad Mithun. Following these discussions, the board decided to bring the tournament back on track.

The BPL 2026 had been paused after players refused to play, demanding an apology and resignation from M Nazmul Islam. The board acted swiftly and removed him following his controversial remarks. After a meeting between the Cricketers' Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) and the BCB, the situation was resolved. The tournament will continue with a slightly revised schedule, and fans can now look forward to seeing the players in action.

Revised BPL 2026 Schedule

The matches originally planned for January 16 and 17 will now take place on January 17 and 18. Tickets purchased for January 15 remain valid for the rescheduled matches.

Play-offs have also been adjusted: the Eliminator and Qualifier 1 will now be held on January 20, Qualifier 2 on January 21, and the final remains scheduled for January 23.

In an official statement, the BCB said: "The BPL 2026 matches scheduled for 15 January 2026 will now be played on 16 January 2026. The matches scheduled for January 16 and 17 will be shifted to 17 and 18 January. The Eliminator and Qualifier 1, originally on January 19, will now take place on January 20."

Crisis Triggered by Controversial Remarks

The disruption began after Nazmul Islam, BCB’s Finance Committee Chairman, made divisive comments, calling Tamim Iqbal an "Indian agent" over his remarks on the T20 World Cup 2026 venue.

In response, senior players, led by CWAB (Cricketers' Welfare Association of Bangladesh), including Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, refused to play, causing major disruption to the tournament schedule.

Fearing further collapse, the BCB held an emergency meeting and removed Nazmul Islam from his position.

"The decision is aimed at ensuring smooth and effective functioning of the board," the BCB said. "The board remains committed to upholding the honour and dignity of all players."

Despite these measures, players still demand an apology from Nazmul Islam and his complete exit from the board.

<![CDATA[BPL 2025-26 postponed indefinitely after player boycott]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/bpl-2025-26-postponed-indefinitely-after-player-boycott/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/bpl-2025-26-postponed-indefinitely-after-player-boycott/ Thu, 15 Jan 2026 18:25:03 GMT

Following the willingness of professional cricketers in Bangladesh to boycott participation in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025-26, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) may be forced to cancel the entire season out of concern for maintaining fair competition among all participants. The boycott is a result of negative light being cast upon the players, primarily by BCB Director/Finance Committee Chairman, Nazmul Islam, but has been further exacerbated by a series of statements made by Nazmul regarding the players' integrity. Consequently, as a means of gaining attention to their grievances and concerns regarding Nazmul's actions, the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) has formally requested that Nazmul resign from his position or else there would be a full boycott of all forms of cricket by the players. A number of meetings have occurred between the CWAB leadership and the BCB to resolve this matter, but all have been unsuccessful, resulting in additional delays in completing the BPL schedule for the remainder of 2025-26.

The incident that brought this matter into the public view occurred during the recent "Dhaka" part of the BPL. When the teams that were scheduled to participate in the opening match of the BPL between the Chattogram Royals and Noakhali Express, which was supposed to take place at 1:00 pm on the 19th of February, failed to arrive at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium by 3:00 pm (a two-hour delay), both teams will have failed to participate in the tournament on their scheduled date. Not being able to field the two teams caused an enormous disruption to the tournament's schedule and is a clear indication of the seriousness of the conflict between the players and the BCB.

As the second match of the day, Rajshahi Warriors vs Sylhet Titans approached, BCB Director and Media Committee Chairperson Amzad Hossain stated the continuation of the tournament will be based on the teams' willingness to participate and reiterated that if there is no participation from the players, the BPL may be postponed indefinitely or cancelled. As the current stand-off continues, the future of the league is uncertain, with a continued lack of resolution. The future of BPL 2025-26 will depend upon how the players and board resolve their issues.

BPL 2025-26 to be postponed till issues are fixed

Earlier, around 70 to 80 cricketers, including several national team members, held a press conference in Dhaka, announcing that they would not return to play unless BCB director Nazmul Islam resigned. In an attempt to manage the crisis, the Bangladesh Cricket Board removed Islam from his role as Finance Committee chairman and issued him a show-cause notice regarding his controversial remarks. Despite these actions, players remained steadfast, asserting that their protest would continue until the board fully met their demand for his resignation.

The BCB confirmed that formal disciplinary proceedings against Nazmul Islam had been initiated, and he was given 48 hours to respond to the notice. However, CWAB president Mohammad Mithun emphasized that these partial steps were inadequate, and the player boycott would persist until Islam resigned. The standoff’s impact extended beyond the T20 league, affecting the first four matches of the Dhaka Cricket League scheduled for the day. The ongoing dispute underscores deep tensions between the players and the board, leaving the domestic cricket calendar in uncertainty.

On Thursday, M Nazmul Islam was dismissed from the position of Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). His removal followed widespread criticism of his public comments regarding former captain Tamim Iqbal, in which he labeled him an "Indian agent" during a controversy between the BCB and the Indian Board over the T20 World Cup venue dispute. The decision was taken during an online emergency meeting held by the BCB following a call from the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) to boycott all domestic matches in Bangladesh.

The BCB have made it clear that President of the BCB Mr. Najmul Islam has decided effective immediately to dismiss Mr. Najmul Islam from his role as Chairman of the Finance Committee due to recent developments and to protect the best interests of the BCB. The BCB also indicated that the decision was made under Article 31 of the BCB Constitution which gives authority to the President of the BCB. This decision was made to assist in ensuring the proper and effective operation of the BCB. The BCB has stated that until further notice, the President will assume the role of Acting Chairman of the Finance Committee. The BCB also stated that the best interests of cricket remain a priority, and that the BCB is committed to maintaining the integrity and respect of all cricketers under the BCB's jurisdiction.

"The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) wishes to inform that, following a review of recent developments and in the best interest of the organisation, the BCB President has decided to release Mr. Najmul Islam from his responsibilities as Chairman of the Finance Committee with immediate effect. The decision has been taken in accordance with the authority vested in the BCB President under Article 31 of the BCB Constitution and is aimed at ensuring the continued smooth and effective functioning of the Board's affairs. Until further notice, the BCB President will assume the role of Acting Chairman of the Finance Committee. The BCB reiterates that the interests of the cricketers remain its highest priority. The Board remains fully committed to upholding the honour and dignity of all players under its jurisdiction,"the BCB said in a statement.

Why should we compensate? : Najmul

Nazmul Islam increased hostilities in cricket between Bangladesh and India with accusations that former captain Tamim Iqbal was working for an Indian company, citing that losing Tamim will not be a great loss for BCB and trying to downplay the fact that any players would be paid for missing the T20 World Cup, which resulted in CWAB demanding for his removal and players boycotting a Bangladesh Premier League match. Bangladesh Cricket Team is refusing to come to India to play due to safety concerns following the dropping of player Mustafizur Rahman based on orders from the BCCI. ICC discussions will be continuing concerning where matches will be moved, while Test captain Najmul Hossain Shanto is calling for a more sensible approach due to the extreme pressure they are under as a result of this delay.

"The board has no profit or loss here. Whether Bangladesh plays here or not, there is no profit or loss for the board - at least for this World Cup. Why [should we compensate?]," Najmul asked in a furious tone.

"If they go somewhere and cannot do anything, then the crores of Taka we spend behind them, do we ask for that money back from them? Do we? Answer me," BCB Finance Committee Chairman M Nazmul Islam told reporters on Wednesday.

The reports have arrived that the Indian presenter, Ridhiman Pathak, has been removed from the presentation panel for the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) on January 07, 2026, citing sources in the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). She was expected to host the Dhaka leg of the year’s event but was reportedly dropped from the team before arriving in the country.

The current edition of the competition has already started in Sylhet. Pathak, however, a prominent figure in Indian sports broadcasting, refused all those reports and clarified that she herself withdrew from the T20 event due to the ongoing political climate. But she directly clarified the rumours.

“In the last few hours, there's been a narrative suggesting I was 'dropped' from the BPL. That is not true. I made a personal decision to opt out. For me, my nation comes first—always. And I value the game of cricket far beyond any single assignment. I've been privileged to serve this sport for years with honesty, respect, and passion.Pathak expressed on her social media.

The Pakistani presenter, Zainab Abbas, arrived in Bangladesh, along with the veteran commentators- Waqar Younis, Ramiz Raja, and Darren Gough. Ridhiman was originally set to join them, but will no longer be attending. The BPL authorities have introduced major changes to the presentation and the commentary panels in the season.

“That won’t change. I will continue to stand for integrity, for clarity, and for the spirit of the game. Thank you to everyone who reached out with support. Your messages mean more than you know. Cricket deserves truth. Period. No further comments from my side.Pathak reflected on the entire situation.

On January 05, the Bangladesh government suspended the broadcast of the IPL 2026 matches in the country after the BCCI instructed the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release their left-arm pacer, Mustafizur Rahman, from their squad. The league is going to begin on March 26, following KKR’s decision to remove the bowler. Bangladesh’s response has requested the ICC to relocate its T20 World Cup 2026 games out of India.

Rajshahi Warriors have announced cash bonuses for their players, coaching staff, and support staff after a dramatic Super Over win against Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) on Thursday, January 1.

The team management confirmed that every member of the squad will receive a bonus of BDT 15,000 for the collective effort behind the thrilling victory. In addition, some players will receive special rewards for their performance. Ripon Mondol, who starred in the death overs, has been given a bonus of BDT 100,000. After both teams finished on the same score, Rajshahi Warriors sealed the win in the Super Over. The victory was powered by Ripon Mondol’s accurate yorkers and a quick finish from Tanzid Hasan Tamim.

Both teams scored 159 runs in 20 overs, forcing the match into a tense Super Over.

Under heavy pressure, Rajshahi pacer Ripon Mondol produced an excellent spell in the Super Over. He mixed pinpoint yorkers with calm bowling and gave away only six runs.

Chasing a small target, opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim took control. He smashed 10 runs from just three balls to finish the match and secure a memorable win for Rajshahi.

This was not the first time Rajshahi used cash rewards to lift team spirit this season. Earlier, after their opening match win against Sylhet Titans, the team announced bonuses. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto received BDT 100,000 for his unbeaten 101, while Mushfiqur Rahim was given BDT 50,000 for his unbeaten half-century. The renowned fast-bowling coach of Bangladesh, Mahbub Ali Zaki, passed away on December 27 after he suffered a heart attack before the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) clash of Dhaka Capitals against Rajshahi Warriors at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. He was the assistant coach of the franchise and collapsed during the team’s pre-match routines.

Zaki was taken to the hospital, where authorities called him dead shortly afterwards, as he died at 59. The match went ahead as scheduled, with the players, coaches, and match officials observing a minute’s silence for Zaki. He was employed for the role for the last 17 years, as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) made a statement on social media.

“Following his playing career, Mahbub Ali Zaki dedicated himself to coaching and player development. He joined the BCB in 2008 as a High Performance coach and went on to make a significant contribution to the growth of pace bowling in the country through his work.” The BCB expressed in the statement.

Mahbub Zaki dies at 59 of heart attack

Zaki was a specialist pace-bowling coach in the game development department of the BCB. He first came to prominence for his work with the veteran pacer, Taskin Ahmed, in 2016, when the latter was reported for the illegal bowling action, as Zaki worked closely with many fast bowlers in the country, apart from liaising with several overseas bowling coaches who worked with the Bangladesh team.

Watch the video here:

A fine character among the team, Zaki, wanted to open an academy for the fast bowlers in Bangladesh, which is quite similar to the MRF pace foundation in India. Zaki, who was a fast bowler in his playing days, represented the Comilla District in the National Cricket Championship and also played for the Abahani Limited, which is the most decorated club of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL).

Dhaka went on to win the clash against Rajshahi by five wickets as they completed the successful chase of 134 runs with Imad Wasim bowling with the best match figures of 3/16 in four overs.

With six teams taking part, every franchise had an opportunity to reshape its core squad. Before the auction, teams made a few direct signings—both local and overseas—setting the stage for aggressive bidding on auction day.

How the Auction Landscape Shifted

Near the ramparts stood some of the strongest powerhouses in the market, such as the Dhaka Capitals and Chattogram Royals, who took the risk of relying on fresh and expensive overseas players to stay strong financially.

In contrast, the Noakhali Express and the Rajshahi Warriors emphasized the need for a full team by employing a mix of young and veteran international players. Every team now holds a strong conviction for their preseason strategy since the BPL 2026 has already produced an edition of the most competitive tournaments ever.
