Bangladesh (BAN) and the Netherlands (NED) will square off in the decisive third and final T20I of their ongoing series at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, September 3. The hosts, who have been dominant so far, will aim for a clean sweep and continue their excellent run of form in the shortest format. Having already secured the series, Bangladesh will look to test their squad depth while maintaining the momentum ahead of future international assignments, much to the delight of their home supporters.

The Netherlands, meanwhile, enter the contest with the hope of salvaging pride after a challenging start to the series. Their campaign began with an eight-wicket loss, largely shaped by Taskin Ahmed’s incisive bowling and Litton Das’s solid batting display. The second T20I brought more disappointment as Tanzid Hasan Tamim’s match-winning half-century guided Bangladesh to chase down 104 runs with ease. The Dutch unit will aim for improvements to end the series on a high.

International cricket action continues at the start of September as Bangladesh (BAN) gear up to host the Netherlands (NED) in the second T20I of the ongoing three-match series on Monday, September 1, at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Bangladesh enter the contest in strong form, having recently sealed a 2-1 series win over Pakistan during their UAE tour. With momentum on their side, the Bangla Tigers will be eager to secure another victory, which would help them wrap up the series early with back-to-back wins.

For the Netherlands, this series marks their maiden T20I experience in Bangladesh. While they attempted to adapt to the Sylhet conditions, their batting lineup found the hosts’ disciplined bowling attack extremely difficult to negotiate in the opening game. Under Scott Edwards’ leadership, the Dutch side will now aim to regroup quickly, learn from their mistakes, and produce a stronger display. Their objective will be to level the series and push the contest into a decisive third match.

Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed was the star for the hosts as they thrashed the Netherlands by eight wickets in the first game of the three-match T20I series at Sylhet on Saturday (August 30).

After Bangladesh chose to field first, the Netherlands were restricted to 136/8 in 20 overs. In reply, Bangladesh comfortably chased down the target in 13.3 overs after losing only two wickets. The Bangladesh right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed recorded his third T20I four-fer, as the visitors hardly managed to produce any strong battles.

BAN vs NED 2025, 1st T20I: Taskin Ahmed dominated the Netherlands innings with his four-wicket haul

In the first innings, only the opener Max O'Dowd (23) and the no.3 batter Teja Nidamanuru (26) managed to score 20+ runs. After the Netherlands had a 25-run opening partnership, Taskin Ahmed took the first two wickets of the match by dismissing Max O'Dowd (23) and the slow-starting opener Vikramjit Singh (4).

Five other Dutch batters managed to reach double-digit scores, but failed to reach the 20-run mark. In the late batting, Tim Pringle (16) and Aryan Dutt (13*) had some cameos to set a better-looking total, which was far from enough. In the Dutch innings, there were three 25+ partnerships, but none of those managed to stretch even the 30-run mark.

With two more wickets in the slog over, Taskin Ahmed finished the game with the bowling figures of 4-0-28-4. Also, Mustafizur Rahman (1/19) and Saif Hasan (2/18) picked up one and two wickets, respectively.

BAN vs NED 2025, 1st T20I: Captain Litton Das scored an unbeaten 50

In reply, although Parvez Hossain Emon (15) was dismissed quickly, the hosts comfortably chased the target. While another opener Tanzid Hasan scored 29 runs, he also had a 66-run partnership with the skipper Litton Das for the second wicket. Later, the captain and Saif Hassan quickly finished the game with a 46-run partnership for the unbroken third wicket. While Das scored 54 not out off 29 balls with six fours and two sixes, Hassan scored 36 not out off 19 balls with the help of one four and three sixes.

The Netherlands' 15-member squad has been announced for their upcoming tour of Bangladesh, where the Dutch side will play a crucial three-match T20I series. A star Dutch player has been dropped from the squad, while some strong names have made a comeback to the squad.

Netherlands will have important preparation for T20 World Cup

Before the Asia Cup 2025, Bangladesh will host a three-match T20I series against the Netherlands. Sylhet will host these matches on August 30, September 1, and September 3. It will be the Netherlands' first international cricket commitment after the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Qualifiers, where they won the campaign to book their place for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, which India and Sri Lanka will host in February and March 2026. So, the forthcoming Bangladesh tour will play a crucial preparatory role for the Dutch side ahead of the next T20 World Cup.

Scott Edwards will continue to lead the Netherlands T20I side, while Ryan Klien, Shariz Ahmad, Tim Pringle, and Fred Klaasen have been recalled to the squad. As some players experienced the last edition of the Bangladesh Premier League, the Dutch side has strong confidence in the upcoming away T20I series. Also, their head coach Ryan Cook previously worked for the Bangladesh men's national cricket team as a fielding coach for many years. The Netherlands are reportedly to arrive in Bangladesh on August 26.

The dropped names are Michael Lewitt, Zach Lion-Cachet, and Vivian Kingma.

Due to a personal problem, an important Bangladesh cricketer will miss the upcoming home T20I series against the Netherlands, which will be their preparation for the Asia Cup 2025.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz takes leave from Bangladesh squad

The 27-year-old Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has taken a leave from the upcoming home T20I series against the Netherlands to support his wife, who isn't keeping well. Sylhet will host the three-match T20I series against the Netherlands, which has been scheduled on August 30, September 1, and 3.

A BCB official told Cricbuzz, "Mehidy took leave from August 20 to September 4 to be with his wife, as she is not keeping well. As a result, he is not flying to Sylhet for the skill camp ahead of the series against Netherlands."

Recently, Mehidy participated in the fitness camp in Dhaka ahead of the home T20I series against the Netherlands and the Asia Cup 2025. While the Bangladesh cricket team has shifted to Sylhet on Tuesday (August 19) for the upcoming T20I series against the Netherlands, the all-rounder is returning home after his leave has been granted.

Bangladesh are in Group B in the Asia Cup 2025, which the United Arab Emirates will host in the T20I format between September 9 and 28. In the group stage, Bangladesh will face Hong Kong (September 11), Sri Lanka (September 13), and Afghanistan (September 16).

Asia Cup 2025: Out of the blue this team issues warning for India and Pakistan

Mehidy Hasan Miraz needs to prove his place

Mehidy Hasan Miraz served for the national team when Bangladesh recently won their away and home T20I series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, respectively. However, due to inconsistent performances, especially with the ball in hand, he is struggling to maintain his position in the regular playing XI.

In his 34 T20Is, Mehidy has recorded 418 runs and 18 wickets. Meanwhile, he has recorded 2163 runs and 111 wickets in 158 T20 matches, where the right-handed batter has recorded seven half-centuries.
