On the 27th encounter of the 2025 season of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Barbados Royals locked horns with the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. The home captain, Rovman Powell, won the toss and decided to bowl first on a surface that was anticipated to get slow in the second innings.

Barbados retained their same playing eleven after earning their opening victory in the last game. On the other hand, the Patriots made just one change. Their opening left-handed batter, Rilee Rossouw, got out of the eleven, and Evin Lewis, who recovered from his injury, came back into the side.

Jason Holder’s 53* leads St Kitts and Nevis Patriots to 150/7

It was a stable opening stand of the Patriots inside the first six overs of the innings as they got 46 runs with both openers struggling with a strike rate of around 110. Mohammed Rizwan, the wicket-keeper opening batter, bashed 39 runs in 36 balls with the help of four boundaries and one six. Their middle order couldn’t do well apart from Jason Holder.

Navian Bidaisee nailed 30 runs in 23 balls at a strike rate of 130.43 with two fours and one six to post 150/7 in their allotted 20 overs of the first innings.

Barbados Royals fail to hold nerve in one-run defeat

Just like the Patriots, the Royals also got a decent start inside the power play with the 42-run opening partnership. Brandon King nailed 29 runs in 22 balls at a strike rate of 131.82, with the help of three sixes and one boundary. Rassie van der Dussen also nailed a fine knock of unbeaten 37 runs in 27 balls with two fours and one six.

However, the Patriots held their nerve beautifully on defense. Dussen nailed a six on the first ball of the last over, but the Royals needed two runs off the last ball. And Holder picked up the wicket of Daniel Sams to claim the one-run victory to breathe for another day.

The home side made one change in the playing eleven with Kadeem Alleyne coming in place of Johann Layne. On the other hand, the Kings decided to go with an unchanged eleven.

Small contributions fire Barbados Royals to 191/5

It was another poor start from the Royals as they lost Quinton de Kock in the third over of the innings. Brandon King's 42 runs in 31 balls with the help of three boundaries and three over boundaries at a strike rate of 135.48 gave them some stability. Kadeem played a crucial knock of 39 runs in just 21 deliveries, thanks to three boundaries and as many sixes.

Saint Lucia Kings fell short of target of 24 runs

The visitors didn’t make a good start and kept losing wickets from top to bottom. Their wicket-keeper and opening batter, Tim Seifert, smacked 24 runs in 13 balls with two sixes and one four. Tim David bashed 44 runs in 28 balls, thanks to four over boundaries and two fours at a strike rate of 157.14.

However, none of these contributions were to get them over the target in the second innings as they finished their allotted 20 overs with 164/9 and fell short of the target by 27 runs.

The Barbados Royals are yet to find their momentum in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2025). After playing 5 matches, they remained without a single win. Before their fifth match against the Amazon Warriors, they honored Mark Henry, a WWE superstar, who earned the nickname 'World's Strongest Man.' The Barbados Royals shared an official video of moments of Mark with the team. This came as a surprise for cricket and wrestling fans across the world. The video shared by Barbados Royals with Henry's WWE entrance theme song, "Somebody's gonna get it..." adds a layer of nostalgia.

Though the aura created by Mark did not sustain for long, as the Royals again suffered a defeat, and their search for their first win of the campaign continues. Amazon Warriors won today's match by 4 wickets, chasing a target of 166 runs in the second innings. Dwaine Pretorius received the man of the match award for his all-round performance. After taking a wicket in the first innings, he played a match-winning 53-run knock in the second innings of the game.

Batting first, Barbados Royals registered 165 for 6 in the first innings. Their collective total mostly depended on three batters—skipper Rovman Powell, Rassie van der Dussen, and Brandon King. Powell scored an unbeaten 50-run knock off 28 deliveries with 6 over-boundaries and, interestingly, no boundary. Gudakesh Motie proved to be the most effective bowler for Amazon Warriors. In his 4-over spell, the spinner claimed a brace with an economy rate of 4.00.

Shai Hope played for winning cause

The match turned into a neck-to-neck contest in the second innings when Eathan Bosch clinched a couple of wickets early, three wickets total in the match. Ramon Simmonds also played a crucial role for the Royals by taking a couple of wickets.

But Shai Hope remained strong on the wicket to ensure a win for the Amazon Warriors. Hope scored an unbeaten 62 off 49, accompanied by Dwaine Pretorius' 53 and Quentin Sampson's unbeaten 33-run innings.

Mohammed Rizwan, after finishing the three-match ODI series against West Indies in the Caribbean, got a chance to feature for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots during the 2025 season of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). However, there was no change in the luck for the batter in the department as he continued to struggle to maintain the pace of scoring runs.

In two games of the season, the right-handed batter, Mohammed Rizwan, smashed 33 runs in 32 deliveries at a strike rate of 103.12 with the best score of 30 runs. In those deliveries, Rizwan has nailed only a couple of boundaries, which is a concern for the franchise, who expect a lot from the veteran, along with the PCB, which decided to drop the batter from the Asia Cup 2025 squad.

A video has gone viral of the 33-year-old from the CPL side, Barbados Royals. The left-arm spinner bowled a full delivery to which Rizwan looked to sweep, but once he missed connecting with the ball, it hit the stumps to dismiss the batter. But the issue was the choice of song where the franchise puthaal kaise hey apka’, which suggests a little bit of trolling towards the batter.

In the 93 innings of the T20Is, Rizwan has smacked 3414 runs at an average of 47.41 and a strike rate of over 125 with the help of 30 half-centuries and one century at the best score of unbeaten 104 runs. During the recent ODI series in the Caribbean, he scored 69 runs in three innings with the best score of 53 runs.

In 257 innings of the shortest format, the wicket-keeper batter has grabbed 8454 runs at an average of nearly 43 and a strike rate of 125.74, scoring three centuries and 69 fifties at the best score of 110*. In the history of PSL, he has 2770 runs in 82 innings at a strike rate of 130.

Along with Rizwan, the former T20I captain of the Green Brigade, Babar Azam is struggling in the same mode, having already been left out of the national side. However, he has reportedly been given a chance to return to the T20I side if he develops his T20 game in the BBL.

On the eighth fixture of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots met the Barbados Royals at Warner Park in Basseterre, St Kitts. The touring captain, Rovman Powell, won the toss and decided to bowl first on a surface which he anticipated would get better in the second innings.

The home side made as many as four changes in the eleven, with Evin Lewis, Abbas Afridi, and Ashmead Nedd coming into the eleven while Mohammed Rizwan made his debut in the league. On the other hand, the Royals left out Shaqkere Parris and Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman to include Kofi James and Nyeem Young in the side.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots fire their way to 174/8

Andre Fletcher, the wicket-keeper batter, smashed 25 runs in 16 balls with the help of 156.25, but the Patriots still kept losing wickets regularly and hardly got the required momentum in the first innings. Kyle Myer clubbed 42 runs in 28 balls at a strike rate of 150 with one four and three sixes.

Captain Jason Holder drilled 38 runs in 21 deliveries at a strike rate of 180.95, with the help of four boundaries and two sixes. A few other small contributions from the lower order pushed them to post 174/8 in their allotted 20 overs in the first innings.

Barbados Royals limp to face a 12-run defeat

It was the same issue for the Barbados side in the chase during the second innings. Kadeem Alleyne smacked 42 runs in 28 balls at a strike rate of 150, shouldering on two boundaries and three sides. However, whenever they needed to put the foot on the accelerator, they lost a wicket and struggled.

Their former captain, Holder, used the pace variations beautifully with the right line and length to pick four wickets in 3.2 overs. The Royals got bundled out for 162 runs in 18.2 overs and faced a 12-run defeat.
