A warm moment took place at the end of the final of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025/26 final at the Optus Stadium post the contest between the Perth Scorchers and the Sydney Sixers, where the winning captain of the home side, Ashton Turner, received the championship medal from his third children as the video went viral around the social media platforms.

Ashton Turner has changed the dynamics of the franchise since being appointed the leader of the side, when he replaced Adam Voges in the position, with the latter joining as the head coach of the group, when their former head coach, Justin Langer, made way for the national side’s coaching.

“This organization, this team, and the support we receive from the wider cricketing community - it’s enormous. We’re fortunate that 11 of us get to walk out onto the field, but we know success like this is driven by a much bigger group. There are too many people to name, but to the players who missed out, the support staff, coaching group, management, the executive, and board at WA Cricket.” Turner expressed at the end of the final.

Winning the toss, Turner had no hesitation in opting to bowl first on a surface that was not easy for batting as the cracks started to open up to create issues for the bowlers. The footmarks were evident as the Sixers kept losing wickets regularly throughout the 20-over match.

Watch the video here:

Three of their batters reached 24 runs individually, but none of them were able to convert them into big scores. Jhye Richardson and David Payne shared six wickets between them while Mahli Beardman picked up two vital wickets of the innings to bundle out the tourists for 132 runs.

Scorchers completed the chase in 17.3 overs with Josh Inglis smashing a massive six down the ground. The platform was set, thanks to the 80-run opening stand between Mitchell Marsh and Finn Allen, as they lifted their sixth title.

Brief Scores: Perth Scorchers 133/4 (Mitchell Marsh 44, Sean Abbott 2/19) beat Sydney Sixers 132 (Steve Smith 24, David Payne 3/18) by six wickets.

The Sydney Sixers had a very little chance to put smile on their face during the final of the Big Bash League 2025/26 against the Perth Scorchers at the Optus Stadium after their poor performance with the bat as they got bundled out for 132 runs in their allotted 20 overs which was never going to be enough.

However, Jack Edwards grabbed a fine catch to be one of the contenders for the catch of the tournament. It was the second delivery of the ninth over Finn Allen smashed the full and outside of delivery from Mitchell’s Starc, over the covers but he did not get it down the ground as Edwards was standing at that exact region.

The ball flew towards the extra cover region as the field dived to his right and it stick to his hand. Jack was aerial when he grabbed the catch and made sure that by the time he smashed his body on the floor, he would have the ball tight on his hand which will would not slip it off his fingers.

Winning the toss, the home captain, Ashton Turner, decided to bowl first on his surface, which wasn’t easy for batting with a few rough patches as he also kept early rain in mind. The Sixers did not get a great start with the bat and kept on losing wickets at regular interval for the entire innings.

Watch the video here:

They were bundled out for 132 in their allotted twenty overs as three of their batters got dismissed for 24 runs individually, but none of them were able to take it deep. David Payne picked up three wickets in his 4-over spell along with Jhye Richardson, while Mahali Beardman claimed two wickets for 29 runs.

And they could have thought of defending the total, but Michell Marsh gave them a horrible start with a six on the very first ball of the chase. Allen was dismissed for 36 runs in just 22 deliveries thanks to his four boundaries and one sixth as they put up an opening partnership of 80 runs in 8.2 overs to kill the entire chase.

Brief Scores: Perth Scorchers 111/2 (Mitchell Marsh 42, Sean Abbott 1/17) vs Sydney Sixers 132 (Steve Smith 24, Josh Phillippe 24, David Payne 3/18)

In the Big Bash League 2025-26 Final, Perth Scorchers will take on Sydney Sixers on Sunday, January 25, at Optus Stadium, Perth. Two of the most successful teams in BBL history will face off against each other for the title.

Perth Scorchers had a good league stage as they finished on top of the table with seven wins out of ten matches. The Ashton Turner led side has been consistent throughout the season and has already beaten the Sixers twice, including a convincing 48-run win in the Qualifier. Playing the final at home gives Perth an added advantage.

Sydney Sixers ended the league phase in second place, winning six matches. They have shown good form at key moments but will be keen to turn things around against the Scorchers, who have had the upper hand this season. These two teams have already met twice in this season, and Perth Scorchers came out on top both times. Recently in the qualifier Scorchers defeated Sixers by 48 runs.

SCO vs SIX: Pitch Report

The pitch at Optus Stadium usually helps the bowlers early, with uneven bounce making stroke play difficult at times. Batting second has not been easy here this season. Teams batting first will look to put 140–150 runs on the board and defend it using smart bowling and variations.

Tempers flared in the Hobart Hurricanes dugout during Friday’s Big Bash League Challenger against the Sydney Sixers, as a heated verbal exchange between Australian internationals caught widespread attention. The incident occurred during a high-pressure knockout clash, when the Hurricanes were trying to control the run flow in the Sixers’ innings. Cameras captured the tense moment, which quickly went viral on social media, showing Test all-rounder Beau Webster visibly frustrated with a fielding decision. The incident highlighted the intensity and pressure of BBL knockout cricket.

Webster directed his frustration toward veteran wicketkeeper Matthew Wade after conceding a boundary off his over. The bowler questioned the positioning of Mitch Owen, who was stationed inside the circle at cover, believing that the field had not been adjusted properly in time. Wade and Owen tried to explain the situation, but Webster’s irritation was apparent, reflecting the high stakes of the match. The clash provided fans with an unfiltered glimpse into the competitive spirit and pressure moments that come with BBL knockout encounters.

“Did you tell him to go?” Webster was heard asking Wade, clearly irritated by the miscommunication.

“I saw you tell him to go. I didn’t tell him to stay in,” Wade replied, attempting to defuse the situation.

Sydney Sixers Dominate to Seal BBL Final Spot

The hasty back-and-forth between the teams portrays the enormous pressure of 'knockout' cricket, where the final place is at stake. In what was an extremely intense few seconds, the Hobart Hurricanes' side was shown to have a brief period of stress, as they were trying to remain in the tournament. However, their hopes were short-lived, due to the Sydney Sixers' commanding and consistent performance throughout the match. Steve Smith set the tone for the Sixers with a steady, composed half-century, while the batting echelons of Moises Henriques, Joel Davies, Lachlan Shaw and Jack Edwards, all helped build total to a daunting score of 199.

Pursuing 200 runs, the Hobart Hurricanes found it very difficult to generate any momentum against the Sixers' highly disciplined bowling unit, as they were limited in the ability to find boundaries, while at the same time faced constant pressure. Veteran left-arm fast-bowler Ben Dwarshius was the star for the Sixers, taking three important wickets to dismantle the Hurricanes' run chase. The outcome was clear as the Sixers claimed the win by a remarkable margin of 57 runs and progressed to yet another BBL final. The Sixers will now face off against the Perth Scorchers for the sixth time in BBL history, strengthening an elite knockout rivalry. Although the dugout confrontation had no impact on the overall results, it did add yet another unexpected element of intensity to what was already a fascinating match.

The Sydney Sixers and Hobart Hurricanes faced each other in the Challenger of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025/26at the Sydney Cricket Ground, where both teams aim for victory to face the past Scorchers at the Optus Stadium, two days later, in the final of the tournament. The responsibility was again on the shoulders of Steve Smith in the batting department.

Opening the batting, Steve Smith finished with 65 runs in just 43 relay breeze with the help of nine boundaries and one six at a strike rate of 151.16. Since his return to the Big Bash League, after a heavy workload in the Ashes 2025/26, the right-handed batter celebrated two half-centuries, including this and a century against the Sydney Thunder at the same ground.

His lone six of the knock against the Hurricanes came in the ninth over of the first innings when he swiveled across to get under a good length delivery and hammered it over the deep backward square leg region for a massive 77-meter as the Sixers posted 198/8 in their allotted 20 overs of the first innings.

Even after being in a strong position, Sydney struggled in their middle order and left a few runs in the middle. The Hurricanes, in reply, were bundled out for 1 in 17.2 overs, losing the contest by 57 runs. They never got going with the bat from the beginning of the innings.

Watch the video here:

They had two openers, Mitchell Owen and Tim Ward, for a small knock of 13 runs each before their captain, Ben McDermott, put up 40 runs in 26 deliveries with the help of three boundaries and one six, but none of these were enough to go for the massive chase of nearly 200 runs.

For the Sixers, Ben Dwarshuis picked up three wickets for 26 runs in three overs, while Mitchell Starc shared two wickets for 29 runs in his four overs, and Joel Davis was adjudged the player of the match for his exceptional performance with both bat and ball.

Brief Scores: Sydney Sixers 198/8 (Steve Smith 65, Riley Meredith 3/52, Rishad Hossain 2/33) beat Hobart Hurricanes 141 (Ben McDermott 40, Ben Dwarshuis 3/26) by 57 runs.

The pitch at the SCG usually suits teams chasing. Batters can score runs once they settle in, and the bowlers will need to be accurate, as even a loose delivery will result in a number of runs being conceded. If the bowling isn't tight, defending a score here can become difficult.

The debut season of the Pakistani star batters Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan in the Big Bash League 2025-26 (BBL 2025-26) turns into a nightmare for both of the batters. With their ongoing poor form, former Pakistan international Tanveer Ahmed suggests they think about taking retirements from international cricket.

Tanveer Ahmed, 47, suggests Azam and Rizwan think about retirement if they feel disrespected. Ahmed believes that the respect of the cricketers is in their own hands. His comments emerge amid their below-par batting performances in the BBL 2025-26 for their respective franchises.

"My request to Babar Azam and Rizwan is if you feel that you are not being given the respect you deserve, then you should retire from international cricket. Respect is in your own hands," Ahmed opined.

Former Pakistan international urges Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan to think about retiremnts

Babar Azam is an integral part of the Sydney Sixers. He has played back-to-back matches for them and failed to produce any positive impact on the field even after smashing a couple of half-centuries. The Pakistan superstar was heavily criticized for maintaining a low strike rate in the T20 tournament. After playing 11 matches for the Sixers, the average strike rate of the experienced batter is 103.1, which is far away from expectations.

Hobart Hurricanes (HUR) will play against Melbourne Stars (STA) in the Knockout match of the Big Bash League 2025-26 at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Tuesday, January 21. The winner will move closer to the final, while the loser will be out of the tournament.

Hobart Hurricanes finished third on the points table after a mixed end to the league stage. They managed only one win in their last three matches, suffering a narrow three-run loss to Brisbane Heat in their final league game. To make matters worse, regular captain Nathan Ellis is out due to injury, and Ben McDermott will lead the team in this important match. Despite this setback, the Hurricanes still have a strong and balanced squad.

Melbourne Stars also ended the league phase with ups and downs. They started their campaign with four consecutive wins but struggled in the middle and bounced back strongly to secure a playoff spot. A convincing six-wicket win over Adelaide Strikers helped them gain momentum ahead of this knockout clash. Led by Marcus Stoinis, the Stars will look to carry that confidence forward.

Hobart Hurricanes will face Melbourne Stars in the Knockout match of the Big Bash League 2025-26 at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Wednesday, January 21. The Hurricanes wrapped up the league stage in third position after registering six wins from ten matches. However, they head into this crucial fixture without their regular skipper Nathan Ellis, who has been ruled out due to injury. Despite the setback, Hobart will rely on their collective strength and home advantage to secure a spot in the next stage.

Melbourne Stars, meanwhile, booked their place in the Knockout after finishing fourth with six victories and four defeats. Their season began on a dominant note, as they won their first four matches on the trot, but consistency eluded them later. Marcus Stoinis and his men suffered defeats in four of their final six league games.
