A huge update has popped up late in the night. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed the name as their next president, as per the latest claims. It is said that former cricketer Mithun Manhas is elected as the BCCI president

It was previously reported that there were multiple candidates who were in the race for the prestigious chair; Mithun was one of the front runners. It was learned that Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) president Raghuram Bhatt was also in the race to get the high-profile job. In the end, it is Mithun Manhas who was selected as the new president of BCCI, according to claims.

To select the most eligible person for the role, a meeting was held in New Delhi on Saturday (September 21). According to news reports, the meeting was held to finalize the candidates for the vacant posts in the Board ahead of the annual general meeting on September 28. Then, it was revealed that Manhas could be the person to take charge.

According to emerging reports, the BCCI could finalize its next set of office-bearers by September 28 only after conducting a high-level meeting at India's Honourable Home Minister Amit Shah's house. As per Cricbuzz, the meeting could take place on September 20, with the apex body eyeing to wrap up the selection procedure amid the ongoing Asia Cup.

Former cricketer Roger Binny recently left office as the BCCI president, with Rajiv Shukla replacing him on an interim basis. Amid the talks of Binny's potential replacements, the BCCI is understood to conduct a meeting at Amit Shah's house to discuss the matter. The logic behind involving the BJP in the BCCI's decision-making is to ensure that only qualified sportspersons hold high-level administrative positions within the sporting body.

It's worth mentioning that the Indian cricket board held a similar meeting back in 2022 when N. Srinivasan slammed Sourav Ganguly, highlighting his shortcomings as the BCCI president. As a result, Ganguly was made to step down from his role, with Binny assuming the office as his successor.

However, the latest report from Cricbuzz suggests that Ganguly is formally in the race to return to the top position, although it's unclear if he will attend the BCCI's much-talked-about meeting with the BJP decision-makers on September 20.

Contenders for Key BCCI Positions

While Ganguly has thrown his hat into the ring for the BCCI president's role, his former Indian teammate Harbhajan Singh and ex-Karnataka spinner Raghuram Bhatt are also in the mix for the office-bearer positions.

The report also claims that former Indian wicketkeeper Kiran More could be one of the high-profile names under consideration despite not being among the state association representatives as a contestant for the elections.

<![CDATA[BCCI set to appoint former Indian wicketkeeper-batter as new president: Reports]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/bcci-set-to-appoint-former-indian-wicketkeeper-batter-as-new-president-reports/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/bcci-set-to-appoint-former-indian-wicketkeeper-batter-as-new-president-reports/ Sat, 13 Sep 2025 15:18:01 GMT

Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Kiran More has come forward as the leading contender to take over as the next president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Sources have revealed that the BCCI top brass approached several high-profile ex-cricketers from the West Zone, including a former player from Saurashtra, but state associations appear to have reached a unanimous preference for More.

This development comes after Roger Binny stepped down from the presidency on July 19 upon turning 70, the upper age limit for office-bearers on the board. Since then, vice-president Rajeev Shukla has been overseeing operations at the helm. Meanwhile, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal confirmed that the BCCI elections, initially scheduled for September 28, may not take place this year if consensus is reached.

“It is going to be a unanimous decision. Mostly all of the state associations are on the same page with the BCCI's eagerness to have Kiran More at the helm. We will get to know about the final decision shortly,” sources told NDTV.

More’s Cricketing and Administrative Journey

Born in 1962, Kiran More represented India from 1984 to 1993, featuring in 49 Tests and 94 ODIs. He was also part of India’s Asia Cup-winning squads in 1988 and 1991. Beyond his playing days, More served as BCCI’s Chairman of Selectors and was a wicketkeeping consultant for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. He also worked as Director of Cricket and interim coach for USA Cricket in 2019, playing a key role in restructuring their pathways after the team secured ODI status. At present, he heads the Cricket Advisory Committee of the Baroda Cricket Association.

If he takes on the presidency, More will be a former player returning to the BCCI's top position, which is indicative of the board's desire to bring cricketing experience into the sport's highest position. India will stage major tournaments in the near future, including the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, and More's presidency would likely be weighed heavily at this time of transition for Indian cricket.

<![CDATA[Sachin Tendulkar breaks silence on BCCI presidency rumors]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/sachin-tendulkar-breaks-silence-on-bcci-presidency-rumors/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/sachin-tendulkar-breaks-silence-on-bcci-presidency-rumors/ Thu, 11 Sep 2025 20:37:07 GMT

In a major clarification, Sachin Tendulkar has officially dismissed speculation regarding his candidacy for the role of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). On September 11, 2025, his management company, SRT Sports Management Pvt Ltd, issued a statement strongly distancing the batting icon from the rumors.

The clarification comes at a critical time for the BCCI as it prepares for the Annual General Meeting (AGM), which will be held on September 28, and where elections will be taking place for several critical positions, including president and IPL chairman. With the top post vacant following Roger Binny’s exit earlier this month after turning 70, speculation had intensified around possible successors.

“It has come to our attention that certain reports and rumors have been circulating regarding Mr. Sachin Tendulkar being considered, or nominated, for the position of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). We wish to categorically state that no such development has taken place. We urge all concerned to refrain from giving credence to unfounded speculations,” the official statement read.

Tendulkar Distances Himself from Administrative Role

The rumors gained traction after reports suggested that former players could once again be in line for top administrative positions, a path previously taken by Roger Binny and Sourav Ganguly. However, sources indicate that Tendulkar is unlikely to pursue or accept such a role, with little possibility of him being nominated by a state association for the AGM.

Meanwhile, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal may face a mandatory cooling-off period, further adding to the uncertainty around BCCI’s leadership transition. With Binny stepping down, the cricket board is in search of new leadership, but it now appears certain that Tendulkar will not be part of the race for the presidency.

<![CDATA[Roger Binny’s BCCI tenure to end as AGM date set for next president announcement]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/roger-binny-s-bcci-tenure-to-end-as-agm-date-set-for-next-president-announcement/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/roger-binny-s-bcci-tenure-to-end-as-agm-date-set-for-next-president-announcement/ Sat, 06 Sep 2025 17:10:58 GMT

In a significant announcement, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed that its 94th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and the upcoming elections will take place on September 28 at 11:30 AM at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai. The elections will determine the next BCCI President and IPL Chairman, as the current incumbents’ tenures come to an end.

BCCI President Roger Binny, who has reached the maximum age limit of 70, will not be eligible to contest in the elections. Meanwhile, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal has completed his six-year tenure and will need to observe a three-year cooling-off period before contesting again, as per committee rules. Current BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, who has held the role for nine months after serving as Joint Secretary for over two years, will continue in his position, along with Joint Secretaries Rohan Gauns Desai and Prabhtej Bhatia, both in their first year.

Speculation is rife over who will succeed in key positions. Sanjay Naik, Mumbai Cricket Association Secretary, and BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla are both considered likely candidates for IPL Chairman, though nothing is confirmed. If Shukla secures the role, Rakesh Tiwari, Bihar Cricket Association President, could apply for the BCCI Vice President position to replace him.

Challenges and considerations for new leadership

The selection of a new BCCI President will unlikely be an easy choice given the prestige and the power this position wields. Binny's exit will create a vacuum that needs someone of stature in Indian cricket, preferably a former player or respected person, to now lead the organization.

Shukla, who has already served five years as BCCI Vice President under the Lodha Constitution, could continue if the National Sports Governance Act comes into effect before the AGM. The new governance law prevents a cooling-off period for any BCCI organized member positions, meaning he is free to stay in position even after completing his first six-year term. Elections will occur on September 28, and now the attention will shift to the official declaration of office bearers and the transition of leadership.

The 1983 World Cup winner and leading wicket-taker in that tournament, Roger Binny, is staying as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President at present, despite crossing the age limit. All the details of this new progress have been discussed here.

Last month, Roger Binny celebrated his 70th birthday. He became the BCCI President in October 2022, after replacing the former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly. However, according to the Supreme Court-approved BCCI constitution, Binny would now have to leave the Presidency role due to crossing the age limit, which was below 70 years.

However, the scenario has changed slightly after the National Sports Bill was passed in parliament on Tuesday. BCCI will now come under the purview of the National Sports Bill. If global bodies haven't set any age limit, the National Sports Federations' office bearers can continue till the age of 75. As the International Cricket Council (ICC) hasn't specified the age limit, the BCCI can follow the National Sports Bill, but the state unit members have to agree on it.

Roger will continue till board meeting in September

The BCCI will hold the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in September. The fate of Roger Binny as the BCCI President can be decided in the upcoming BCCI AGM. According to the recent PTI report, till the BCCI AGM, the 1983 World Cup winner will continue in the BCCI President role.

An unnamed source told PTI, "Roger will continue till board meeting in September. Whether he will get a fresh term depends on what members and other powerful people associated with the BCCI decide."

There are other points to discuss in the bill

As the BCCI doesn't take any grants from the government, the Right To Information (RTI) Act won't be applicable for the board despite now being a part of the National Sports Bill. The BCCI legal team is busy reviewing the new laws.

The source added, "The national sports bill has just been passed, so, we have some time to study it and engage in proper discussion before taking any decision. There are other points to discuss in the bill for sure, and all the stakeholders, including senior players and coaching staff, will be consulted, particularly because cricket will be played at the 2028 Olympics."
