Birmingham Phoenix Women lost to Trent Rockets Women in Match 31 of The Hundred Women's 2025. Phoenix posted 123/6 in their 100 balls, with Emma Lamb anchoring the innings with a fine 56* off 42 deliveries. However, other batters like Ellyse Perry and Marie Kelly only managed 14 runs each, leaving the total short of a big score. In response, Trent Rockets chased down the target in 97 balls, finishing their innings at 126/7. Natalie Sciver played an incredible innings of 52 off just 29 balls to change the game as Trent Rockets won by just 3 wickets and 3 balls to spare. Below are the main reasons for the Birmingham Phoenix Women defeat.

1. Nat Sciver-Brunt’s Match-winning Blitz

Natalie Sciver produced an awesome 52 off just 29 balls to help the Rockets chase the total down and helped turn the momentum in their favor with her aggressive stroke-play and calmness in pressure situations. She dealt with the Phoenix bowlers expertly, scoring very freely at important times. Without her knock, this would have been a much tougher chase.

2. Tight and Penetrative Spin from Rockets

The Rockets' spinners bowled intelligently to restrict Phoenix in its innings. Kirstie Gordon (2/24), Ashleigh Gardner (1/18) and Alana King (1/21) all bowled economically and made runs come at a premium. Their relatively economic spells allowed them to build pressure in the middle overs and stop Phoenix from fully accelerating when they had wickets in hand. That pressure and level of control were essential in keeping the final target manageable.

3. Inadequate Lower-order Support

Emma Lamb's unbeaten 56 anchored the Phoenix innings; however, she didn't have much support. Perry and Kelly both had starts, but neither converted their innings into big contributions. With the lower order failing to add with late acceleration, the team ended with a below-par 123/6, which probably cost them the match, losing by 3 wickets.

Birmingham Phoenix Women held their nerves to defend 111 runs and beat Manchester Originals by 16 runs. Captain Ellyse Perry was brilliant, scoring an unbeaten 55 off 48 balls. She got good support from Sterre Kalis, who made 43 not out, and together they helped the team reach a total the bowlers could defend. The Originals’ bowlers tried hard, with Sophie Ecclestone taking 1/21 and Deandra Dottin 1/6, but it wasn’t enough.

After losing a couple of early wickets, Perry calmly guided the team with Kalis by her side. Their partnership built the momentum, taking Phoenix past 110. Manchester Originals struggled right from the start, losing their openers for ducks. Captain Beth Mooney and Kathryn Bryce went early, and the team was under pressure. Amelia Kerr (9) and Seren Smale (29) tried to hold the innings together, while Lauren Filer scored a quick 19 off 11 balls to give some fight. But Phoenix bowlers were too strong. Megan Schutt took 3/14 and Phoebe Brett 2/11, breaking through the Originals’ lineup. In the end, Originals couldn’t reach the target and lost by 16 runs.

<![CDATA[Top 3 reasons why Birmingham Phoenix Women lost to Welsh Fire Women in the Hundred Women's 2025 match 24]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/top-3-reasons-why-birmingham-phoenix-women-lost-to-welsh-fire-women-in-the-hundred-women-s-2025-match-24/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/top-3-reasons-why-birmingham-phoenix-women-lost-to-welsh-fire-women-in-the-hundred-women-s-2025-match-24/ Fri, 22 Aug 2025 23:08:49 GMT

Birmingham Phoenix Women lost by 36 runs against Welsh Fire Women in Match 24 of The Hundred Women's 2025 at Edgbaston. Welsh Fire batted first and finished on 150/3 in 20 overs, with important contributions from Jess Jonassen and Hayley Matthews. Phoenix's positive start to the chase, with Ellyse Perry scoring a fighting 55, quickly faded when regular wickets and disciplined bowling prevented any combination from working together. Phoenix ended on 114/9, leaving them well behind the target. Here are the main reasons why Birmingham Phoenix Women lost the match.

1. Struggles in the Chase

Phoenix faced huge obstacles when trying to chase 151. Although Ellyse Perry contributed with a battling 55, the team failed to create anything meaningful over the course of their innings. Timely dismissals at pivotal moments meant the Phoenix were struggling at 101/9 and unable to mount a successful chase

2. Strong Bowling by Welsh Fire

Welsh Fire's bowlers were very effective. Shabnim Ismail finishing on 3/16 and Hayley Matthews on 3/21. They bowled in an extremely disciplined manner, which allowed limited opportunities for Phoenix to score or settle in during their innings. This meant their batters consistently faced pressure to score throughout their innings.

3. Inability to Contain Fire’s Top Order

Phoenix bowlers battled to restrict the Welsh Fire's openers. Sophia Dunkley and Hayley Matthews scored at ease to form a 50-run partnership, and Jess Jonassen scored an explosive 44* off 25 balls, with 10 boundaries, convincing Welsh Fire with a challenging total that was difficult to chase.

London Spirit Women put up a powerful show at Edgbaston, beating Birmingham Phoenix Women by a huge 88 runs. After winning the toss and batting first, the Spirit made 164/6 in their 100 balls. Kira Chathli was the star with a brilliant 69 from 35 balls, hitting 13 boundaries. Grace Harris added quick fire with 34 from just 15 balls, while Danielle Gibson and Sarah Glenn gave the innings a strong finish. For Phoenix, Emily Arlott was the only highlight with the ball, taking 3/25.

Even after losing an early wicket, Chathli’s attacking knock kept the scoreboard moving. She got good support from her partners before Harris came in and smashed the bowlers all around the park. The Spirit’s total looked more than enough on the day.

Birmingham Phoenix never looked in control while chasing. Only Emma Lamb showed some fight with 23 off 13 balls, but wickets fell regularly. Charlie Dean, Eva Gray, and Rebecca Tyson all bowled superbly and picked two wickets each. Phoenix were bowled out for just 76, giving Spirit a huge 88-run victory.

Birmingham Phoenix Women were beaten by London Spirit Women by 88 runs in Match 18 of The Hundred Women’s 2025 at Edgbaston. Chasing 165, Phoenix collapsed from 16/0 to 76 all out in 79 balls under the pressure. Before that, Kira Chathli's rapid 69 off 35 balls and Grace Harris's cameo of 34 off 15, propelled Spirit to a formidable total of 164/6. Although Emily Arlott took 3/25, Phoenix's batting unit only put up a mocking performance against a clearly disciplined bowling standout of Spirit. Here are the main reasons why Birmingham Phoenix Women lost the match:

1. London Spirit’s Batting Brilliance

London Spirit made a massive score of 164/6, putting them in a strong position. Kira Chathli cut a stunning 69 off only 35 balls, while Grace Harris provided late power with 25 off 11. Their fearless batting made a move that Phoenix struggled to match.

2. Birmingham Phoenix Batting Collapse

Phoenix never got going in the chase, crumbling to 76 all out. Emma Lamb top-scored with 23 off 13, but apart from Emily Arlott (10) and Amy Jones (10), None of their batters could build partnerships, and they slipped to 58/7 before collapsing further. The lack of resistance against disciplined bowling left them out of the contest.

3. Spirit’s Disciplined Bowling and Fielding

London Spirit’s bowlers were precise, making run-scoring hard at every point. Eva Gray ended with 2/13 and captain Charlotte Dean ended with 2/16; Charli Knott was also successful with 1/7. Their accuracy, in conjunction with good fielding, ensured this was a complete win for the team.

Northern Superchargers Women beat Birmingham Phoenix Women by eight wickets in Match 14 of The Hundred Women’s 2025. Phoenix batted first at Headingley but never got going, finishing on 116/6 in their 100 balls. Georgia Voll was the top scorer with 32 not out, while Sterre Kalis made 24. Linsey Smith and Lucy Higham bowled brilliantly for the Superchargers, taking two wickets each.

Chasing 117 to win, the Superchargers made it look easy, getting there in just 74 balls. Phoebe Litchfield was outstanding with an unbeaten 59 off 28 balls, while Annabel Sutherland hit 20 not out. Early contributions from Davina Perrin (14) and Alice Davidson-Richards (17) set the stage for the comfortable win.

In Match 14 of The Hundred Women’s 2025, Birmingham Phoenix Women were defeated by six wickets by Northern Superchargers Women. The Phoenix posted 116/6 with Emily Arlott (32), Sterre Kalis (24), and Marie Kelly (20) as the top scorers. Superchargers spinners Linsey Smith and Lucy Higham shared four wickets to restrict the Phoenix innings. Phoebe Litchfield's unbeaten 59 off just 28 balls powered the Superchargers' chase as it took just 74 balls. Here are the main reasons why Birmingham Phoenix lost the match:

1. Superchargers' Spin Dominance

Linsey Smith (2/18) and Lucy Higham (2/21) completely took apart the middle order of Phoenix with their economically bowled overs of spin. Not only did their tight lines and variations earn wickets but they also limited the scoring opportunities, thus keeping the batsmen under constant pressure.

2. Sudden Collapse After a Good Start

Phoenix got off to a flying start as Emma Lamb and Marie Kelly managed to get to 44/1 after 30 balls. However, in a dramatic reversal, they went on to lose 5 wickets in 20 balls, one of which was the peculiar run-out of captain Ellyse Perry. Such a quick downfall from an almost safe place greatly changed the match against them.

3. Phoebe Litchfield's Match-Winning Knock

While chasing a low target, Litchfield took control of the match with her aggressive but measured 59* off 28 balls that included fluent boundary strokes. Her initial acceleration kept the Superchargers well ahead of the required rate, thus leaving Phoenix with no way back into the competition.

<![CDATA[[WATCH] Amanda-Jade Wellington pulls off a stunning no-look run out to catch Emma Lamb short of her crease in The Hundred]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-amanda-jade-wellington-pulls-off-a-stunning-no-look-run-out-to-catch-emma-lamb-short-of-her-crease-in-the-hundred/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-amanda-jade-wellington-pulls-off-a-stunning-no-look-run-out-to-catch-emma-lamb-short-of-her-crease-in-the-hundred/ Wed, 13 Aug 2025 07:28:41 GMT

Amanda-Jade Wellington of Oval Invincibles stood out in yesterday's Women's Hundred fixture against Birmingham Phoenix, thanks to her extraordinary brilliance on the field. Although she missed out with the willow and perished without troubling the scorers, she made it up by pulling off a spectacular no-look run out to catch the in-form Emma Lamb off guard. The dismissal came at a critical time for Oval Invincibles as they were able to put the brakes on and restrict the home side to 152.

Tasked with chasing 175, Birmingham Phoenix were regularly jolted by the fall of wickets. However, this no-look run-out dismissal came to light during the 59th ball of the run chase. Wellington bowled a leg-side delivery, which Lamb was able to work it away towards deep mid-wicket. She played it well to place the ball into the gap, but wasn't expecting a rocket-arm throw from the deep. Franklin, the fielder in the deep, released the ball quickly and threw it towards the non-striker's end.

Wellington anticipated the throw to perfection and almost immediately flicked it back onto the stumps after collecting the ball. Interestingly, she wasn't even looking back, but her throw turned out to be accurate as the ball went on to crash into the stumps. Lamb was left agonizingly short of her crease as she fell prey to the outstanding fielding effort from both Franklin and Wellington combined.

Watch the video here:

Lamb was eventually run out for 25, making her the third-highest run scorer for Birmingham Phoenix. Sadly, her departure caused Birmingham Phoenix to lose a little bit of momentum during the run chase. The team struggled to regroup after that blow and found it difficult to keep up with the asking rate. Before her eventual demise, Lamb played a very instrumental role in holding Birmingham Phoenix's innings together. Ailsa Lister tried to salvage the game and slammed a courageous 33 (18) to take the home side close, but failed to get them over the line, thus handing the Invincibles a convincing 22-run victory.

Lauren Winfield-Hill (33) and Lanning gave a fast start before Capsey played a brilliant knock, hitting 8 fours and 1 six. Paige Scholfield’s unbeaten 25 helped push the score even higher.

Phoenix lost early wickets but fought back with Ellyse Perry (29) and Ailsa Lister (33 runs*). The Invincibles’ bowlers, Amanda-Jade Wellington bowled well (2/27) and Marizanne Kapp (1/22), kept things tight to seal the win.

In The Hundred Women's 2025 Match 10, Birmingham Phoenix Women were beaten by 22 runs by Oval Invincibles Women after failing to complete the run chase of 175. The effort of the outgoing batters for Phoenix, namely Ailsa Lister (33 off 18), Ellyse Perry (29 off 16), and Emma Lamb (25 off 19), was not enough to lift the team to the total set by Invincibles, which was bolstered by top-order power hitting and disciplined bowling and thus, was the deciding factor of the match. Here are the main reasons why Birmingham Phoenix (Women) lost the match:

1. Oval’s Powerful Top-Order Batting

Alice Capsey was on fire as she smashed 52 from 29 balls and Meg Lanning came to her rescue with a brisk 36 from 19. The power play domination gave them the platform to rake up a scary total, thus putting Phoenix in a position where they were always one step behind.

2. Bowling Miseries of Phoenix in Crucial Overs

Two wickets by each of Hannah Baker (2/24) and Emily Arlott (2/25) were the silver lining in Phoenix bowling effort that was uncharacteristically prone to giving away runs at the wrong times. Megan Schutt’s 1/34 in her 20 balls highlighted the inability to contain set batters, especially in the death overs.

3. Lack of Big Partnerships in the Chase

Although Phoenix’s top three all got starts, no batter carried on to play a match-winning knock. The middle order couldn’t accelerate when required, and regular wickets meant they finished at 152/6—well short of the target.
