After five weeks of exciting cricket in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025, the two champion sides, Guyana Amazon Warriors and Trinbago Knight Riders, locked horns in the final of the tournament at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. The Imran Tahir-led Guyana won the toss and decided to bat first.

The Warriors made two changes to the eleven with Shamar Joseph and Iftikhar Ahmed coming back into the playing eleven in place of Shamarh Brooks and Hassan Khan. For the Knight Riders, they retained the same playing eleven from last season.

Guyana Amazon Warriors struggle to post 130/8

Guyana’s opening batter, Ben McDermott, smashed a decent knock of 28 runs in 17 deliveries at a strike rate of 164.71 with the help of three boundaries and a couple of over boundaries. However, their middle order couldn’t contribute at all in the fixture.

Iftikhar drilled 30 runs in 27 balls at a strike rate of 111.11 with three boundaries and one six, while Dwaine Pretorious smashed 25 runs in 18 balls, shouldering on two over boundaries and one four. Guyana posted 130/8 in their allotted 20 overs of the innings as Saurabh Netravalkar ended with figures of 3/25 in four overs. Usman Tariq was excellent with 1/18 in four overs.

Trinbago Knight Riders earn fifth CPL title with 2025 season’s victory

Colin Munro took the Knight Riders off to a flying start with 23 runs in 15 balls, but as is the case with Guyana, the Knight Riders’ middle order couldn’t contribute either in that department. Sunil Narine played a decent 22-run knock in 17 balls.

But the veteran Kieron Pollard has clubbed an impressive knock of 21 runs in 12 balls at a strike rate of 175 with three over boundaries, while Akeal Hossein’s 16* completed the successful chase by three wickets with two overs to spare.

The 2025 season of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has just one match left for the final of the tournament, which will take place on September 21 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana between the Guyana Amazon Warriors and Trinbago Knight Riders. The spectators have enjoyed the entire competition with a flurry of sixes and fours around the park, with incredible bowling performances.

However, a video has gone viral on social media platforms from the CPL, which happened during the second qualifier of the event between the Knight Riders and Saint Lucia Kings at the same venue. That was the time when the camera found the off-field fun on the grass bank where two kids were playing various sweeps with the bat.

One of the kids went down on his heels and played the reverse sweep shot, while the other boy showed his sweep shot. But there was a moment when the other kid looked to cut the short ball towards the point region, and to do that, his bat hit the head of the other kid, who was incredibly hurt by that.

The CPL 2025 has gone decently. Kings, who have already been disqualified from the tournament after their defeat against the Knight Riders, finished the group stage of the competition with five victories in 10 encounters at a net run rate of +0.746. Guyana, the Imran Tahir-led side, was at the second rank in the table with six wins in 10 fixtures.

Trinbago was in the third position in the points table. They earned six victories in 10 group-stage clashes at a net run rate of +0.018, while Antigua and Barbuda Falcons finished in the fourth position to qualify for the playoffs with five wins in 10 games.

Guyana’s wicket-keeper batter, Shai Hope, is the current leading run-getter of the tournament, having smashed 479 runs in 10 innings at an average of around 60 and a strike rate of 130.52, while in the bowling department, Imran Tahir was the peak of the bowling department with 20 wickets in 11 innings at an average of 15.60.

During the second qualifier of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025, the Trinbago Knight Riders locked horns with Saint Lucia Kings at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. The David Wiese-led side won the toss and decided to bowl first, expecting the surface to get better in the second innings for batting.

Both sides went with an unchanged playing eleven for the contest. The eyes were on the Knight Riders, who came into the clash after a comfortable victory against the Antigua Barbuda and Falcons during the eliminator, while Saint Lucia Kings faced a defeat against Guyana Amazon Warriors in the first qualifier.

Trinbago Knight Riders cream their way to 194/4

After Colin Munro went back to the dressing room early in the innings, the top order took full responsibility in the batting department. Alex Hales remained undefeated on 58 runs in 44 balls at a strike rate of 131.20 with the help of two boundaries and four sixes. Their captain, Nicholas Pooran, clubbed 50 runs in 32 balls at a strike rate of 156.25, shouldering on five boundaries, fours, and sixes.

Saint Lucia Kings struggle to face 56-run defeat

The 59-run opening stand of the Kings in nine overs laid a decent platform for the chase, but that wasn’t going to be enough in the second innings. The wicket-keeper opening batter, Tim Seifert, scored 57 runs in 40 deliveries at a strike rate of 142.50.

However, their middle order didn’t click at all in the batting department and got restricted to 138/8 in their 20 overs. Usman Tariq picked up four wickets while Sunil Narine ended with figures of 3/18 in four overs.
