Yorkers are always the hardest ball to bowl in any format of the game. Bowlers tend to go for this sort of delivery, especially with the old ball, because it gets gripped quite easily in the hands of the bowlers, unlike the new ball. In the death overs, it is still the hardest ball to bowl, even in the modern generation of the game, and the Indian Premier League (IPL) is the biggest stage.

In the 18 seasons of the tournament, many fast bowlers have bowled the best yorkers in the game, making it next to impossible for the batters to get any runs off the ball. From Mustafizur Rahaman to Lasith Malinga, it’s a huge list.

Let’s take a look at the top 10 yorkers bowled in IPL history.

10. Ishant Sharma in 2024 during DC vs RR

It was the opening ball of the last over to Andre Russell from Ishant Sharma during the clash between the Delhi Capitals and the Rajasthan Royals. Ishant bowled the ball through the middle and off stump of the West Indies, who fell on the floor and saw the stumps being broken as the crowd gave a loud cheer.

9. Dale Steyn in 2019 during RCB vs CSK

It was the game between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Chennai Super Kings in 2019 when the South African pacer delivered a brutal yorker to Suresh Raina. The southpaw was prepared to face the short ball, but the yorker rushed through the middle and off-stump to break the furniture.

8. Andre Russell in 2021 during KKR vs RCB

On this occasion, it was the story from the IPL 2021 in Abu Dhabi between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Bengaluru side. Russell, on the fourth ball of the ninth over, delivered a cracking yorker on the leg stump as AB de Villiers didn’t have any idea of dealing with that delivery. Russell’s excitement was proof of how much he enjoyed the bowling.

7. Lasith Malinga in 2013 during MI vs CSK

It was the final of the IPL 2013 between the Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings at the Eden Gardens when Lasith Malinga delivered one of the best yorkers of the IPL. The right-arm pacer went to the root of the stumps at Michael Hussey, who missed the flick shot and saw his stumps getting destroyed.

6. S Sreesanth in 2009 during CSK vs KXIP

There are very few batters who can play the yorkers better than MS Dhoni. But India’s former pacer S Sreesanth had the last laugh during the IPL 2009, playing for the Kings XI Punjab. The right-arm pacer ran in hard and put a firing yorker at the off-stump, to which Dhoni defended but saw his stumps getting crashed.

5. Jasprit Bumrah in 2024 during PBKS vs MI

It was from the last season of the IPL between the Punjab Kings and the Mumbai Indians when Jasprit Bumrah showed his skills to Rilee Rossouw in Chandigarh. The right-arm pacer came with the angle and bowled a perfect yorker to break the stumps of the southpaw batter, who couldn’t do anything with his shot.

4. Arshdeep Singh in 2023 during MI vs PBKS

At the Wankhede Stadium in 2023 between the Mumbai Indians and the Punjab Kings, the left-arm pacer, Arshdeep Singh, sent a firing yorker against Tilak Verma. With 15 runs needed in four balls, the batter swung his bat and saw the ball breaking the middle stump in two parts.

3. Lasith Malinga in 2012 during MI vs CSK

It’s the second time for Malinga in the list during the 2012 season of the league between the Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings. At the Wankhede Stadium in the afternoon fixture, Malinga bowled a perfect yorker to Dwayne Bravo, who looked to drive the ball but could only get it under the stumps to break the furniture. The former Sri Lankan bowler was always known for his incredible skills.

2. Dale Steyn in 2012 during DC vs MI

It was the game between the Decan Chargers and the Mumbai Indians in the 2012 season when Steyn bowled a brilliant yorker against the right-handed batter. Steyn ran in and put it on the root of the stumps as the batter had no clue of how to deal with that delivery. The veteran Protea pacer’s celebration also showed how much it meant to him.

1.Mustafizur Rahman in 2016 during SRH vs KKR

It was the left-handed bowler from Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman, who got the top spot for the Sunrisers Hyderabad against the Knight Riders in 2016. Russell was again on the receiving end as he fell on the ground and was on the wrong side of the yorker.

After a disappointing IPL 2025 campaign, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is set to restructure their squad and coaching staff with a massive effect. As per the latest reports, the champion of IPL 2024 appointed a new bowling coach before a new season.

From 2022, Bharat Arun had been doing the job for KKR. His tenure with the multi-time IPL-winning franchise comes to an end after their underwhelming performance in the previous Indian Premier League. As per the latest reports, the Purple Brigade roped in former South Africa international and Royal Challengers Bengaluru pacer Dale Steyn as their new bowling coach to replace Arun.

There were multiple rumors about the possible appointment, which seems finally shaped in reality. Steyn, during his days as an active cricketer, played multiple franchise-based tournaments across the globe. The amount of experience he collected is unmatchable. One of the most lethal pacers during his era, Dale Steyn participated in the cash-rich league with four different franchises, but mostly he played for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. With an incredible economy rate of 6.91, the South African took 97 wickets in 95 IPL matches, including his best 3/8. For South Africa, his numbers were more impressive in T20Is. The former cricketer claimed 64 scalps in 47 matches with a 6.94 economy rate and 4/9 as his best in the bracket.

KKR can consider few more changes

The inclusion of Steyn in the Knight camp will definitely make their dugoutmore exciting, and the bowlers, including young and experienced, can get the chance to interact with one of the best in the business.

But the formal announcement about the change in the coach team is yet to come from the Kolkata Knight Riders. According to speculations, the former champion team can make a few more changes in their backend to modify it with a fresh attire.

Former South African speedster Dale Steyn didn’t mince words while slamming India’s team management for resting Jasprit Bumrah in the second Test against England at Edgbaston. Despite being India’s standout performer in the opening Test at Leeds, where he claimed a five-wicket haul, Bumrah was benched in favour of Akash Deep a move that surprised fans and experts alike.

Taking to the social media platform X, Steyn likened the decision to Portugal benching Cristiano Ronaldo in a must-win football match. “So Portugal have the best striker in the world in Ronaldo and they chose not to play him. That’s madness. That’s like India having Bumrah and choosing not to play, umm, him… wait, oh, no, what! shit I’m confused,” Steyn posted, expressing disbelief over the exclusion.

India’s management, led by captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir, justified the decision as part of a pre-decided workload management plan. Bumrah, who has been recovering from a back issue earlier this year, was scheduled to feature in only three of the five Tests. This plan was endorsed by chief selector Ajit Agarkar and approved by the BCCI medical team.

Gill Scores Ton but Bumrah Omission Raises Eyebrows Amid India’s Struggles

At the toss, Gill explained, “Just to manage his workload. We did get a good break, and this is an important match for us. But the third Test being at Lord's, we think there'll be more in that pitch, so we'll use him there.”

While India’s strategy sparked debate, they had a solid start at Edgbaston, ending Day 1 at 310/5. Gill led from the front with a second consecutive century (114*), supported by Jaiswal’s fluent 87 and Jadeja’s unbeaten 41. But questions remain whether the gamble to rest Bumrah in a must-win match will pay off, especially given India’s poor recent red-ball form just one win in their last nine Tests.

Legendary South African fast bowler Dale Steyn was visibly emotional after witnessing his country secure their maiden World Test Championship (WTC) title. South Africa defeated Australia by five wickets in a historic final at Lord’s on Saturday, ending a 27-year-long drought for an ICC trophy. The last time South Africa won an ICC tournament was the KnockOut Trophy in 1998—Steyn was just a teenager back then, dreaming of a moment like this.

Steyn, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest fast bowlers in the game, played 93 Tests, 125 ODIs, and 47 T20Is for South Africa but was never able to lift an ICC trophy himself. Perhaps the most painful memory of his career came in the 2015 ODI World Cup semi-final against New Zealand. On Saturday, though, those years of heartbreak turned into joy as Temba Bavuma’s men chased down 282 runs to secure the elusive title at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Speaking to Star Sports after the win, Steyn struggled to hold back his tears. “What do you do? what do you say? It's incredible. I'm sitting at home, I've got my cap here, and I'm extremely proud. I mean, what do you do? I'll take my son for a walk, and life will carry on,” he said, showing his Test cap while his voice cracked with emotion. The moment quickly went viral on social media, capturing the hearts of cricket fans worldwide.

A Triumph for the Ages

South Africa’s victory was largely built on Aiden Markram’s superb 136 and skipper Temba Bavuma’s composed 66, ensuring the Proteas had their moment of glory on the world stage. The team’s clinical execution and resilience throughout the match drew praise from all corners.

“I felt like the support at Lord's—especially from the English fans—was in South Africa's favor too. Maybe it had a little to do with the Ashes rivalry, but that backing helped. This was a massive game, and the team played incredibly well. It was a perfectly structured Test match—when it mattered, the biggest names stood up,” Steyn said. “KG Rabada with the wickets, Pat Cummins delivering too, Mitchell Starc with wickets and runs, Aiden Markram contributing late, and Temba Bavuma steering the side home. It was a fantastic final. I'm just thrilled for South Africa—they've finally won a trophy they've been chasing for a long time.

Test cricket has traditionally been associated with South Africa, and South Africa has produced some of the world's greatest bowlers. Over the years, South Africa has built up a reputation for producing fast, aggressive pacers, as well as artists or craftsmen in spin who have won their country's matches. <![CDATA[Can Dale Steyn's prediction of SRH scoring 300 runs come true today in SRH vs MI game?]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/can-dale-steyn-s-prediction-of-srh-scoring-300-runs-come-true-today-in-srh-vs-mi-game/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/can-dale-steyn-s-prediction-of-srh-scoring-300-runs-come-true-today-in-srh-vs-mi-game/ Wed, 23 Apr 2025 14:03:02 GMT

Dale Steyn’s audacious prediction back on April 17, 2025, that the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) could reach 300 runs in an IPL 2025 match against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede Stadium never materialized, as SRH were only able to post 162/5, which MI chased down easily. Steyn, on social media platform X, humorously retracted, saying that maybe the combined scores would reach 300 instead. Today (April 23, 2025), SRH will again take on MI, this time at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. While Steyn did not explicitly predict the 300-run mark again for this match, SRH has an explosive batting group—namely Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, and Ishan Kishan - so there is always the enjoyment of the prediction. Also, SRH have four of the top team totals in IPL history, and earlier this season, they were able to score 286/6 against the Rajasthan Royals and scored 277/3 against MI in 2024, so chasing down a significant total is possible.

That being said, it is still difficult to reach the 300-run mark. No IPL team has ever scored 300 runs. The closest was SRH's 287/3 against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2024. While Hyderabad's pitch is known to produce high scores (for example, SRH's 286/6), it's not as batter-friendly as Wankhede's flat surface, and it does not have the short boundaries. SRH's recent run of form has been inconsistent; their 162/5 tally at Wankhede indicated a slow start (76/2 in 10.1 overs) to their innings, although their chase to 246 against Punjab Kings hints at some batting recovery. MI's bowling, led by Jasprit Bumrah, performed with discipline last time, and they will be able to restrict SRH's momentum again, given they already have the inside information on this opponent.

SRH’s Batting Firepower and Home Advantage

Batting depth is SRH's most valuable weapon. Head and Sharma's ability to attack at the start, okay, along with the devastation caused by Klaasen in recent matches, means that they can dismantle any bowling attack. Their innings against Hyderabad shows what 286/6 would revive for runs at that venue. If SRH have a strong start in batting (80+ runs) and lose few wickets, then they should be on track to foot it with MI at 300, depending on whether MI's second-string bowlers allow the batting free flow. Playing in familiar conditions also adds to their memory, where they have been stronger in recent times.

“A small prediction. On April 17, we will see the first 300 runs in the IPL. Who knows, maybe I will also be there to see it,” Steyn’s tweet read.

Also Read: Cricket fraternity unites to slam Pahalgam attack – Powerful stand against terror

MI's bowlers, led by Jasprit Bumrah have been a challenge for SRH in recent history. Last time, MI restricted SRH perfectly, and Bumrah and Pandya took early wickets that limited their batting effort. Achieving 300 runs essentially means they will have to score and maintain a run rate of 15 per over, which is something that has never been seen in an IPL season. SRH's struggles away from home and MI's tactical nous make the prospect of 300 runs unlikely to be explored. If all of SRH's heavy hitters can bat consistently, we could see them achieve the expected 250+ score.

<![CDATA[Not Today! Dale Steyn’s big 300-run prediction for SRH goes completely wrong against MI]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/not-today-dale-steyn-s-big-300-run-prediction-for-srh-goes-completely-wrong-against-mi/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/not-today-dale-steyn-s-big-300-run-prediction-for-srh-goes-completely-wrong-against-mi/ Thu, 17 Apr 2025 22:18:42 GMT

Why SRH Couldn't Reach 300 Runs at Wankhede

Dale Steyn, the former South African fast bowler and ex-Sunrisers Hyderabad coach, had made a big prediction. He tweeted last month, “Small prediction. April 17 we'll see the first 300 in IPL. Who knows, I might even be there to see it happen.” His confidence made fans believe something special was coming.

And why not? SRH had recently smashed 286/6 against Rajasthan Royals the second-highest score in IPL history. They also hold four of the top five highest scores in the league.
With big hitters like Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, and Ishan Kishan, the team looked more than capable of reaching the 300 mark in the 33 match against MI in IPL 2025.

At the halfway stage of the innings, SRH are 76/2 after 10.1 overs far from where they needed to be.
Abhishek Sharma gave them a good start with 40 off 28 balls, but his wicket, followed by Ishan Kishan’s early wicket for just 2 runs, slowed things down for them. Travis Head, usually known for his quick starts, has been unusually slow with 25 off 25 balls, and Nitish Reddy hasn’t looked comfortable, scoring just 4 from 6 balls.

Dale Steyn’s Prediction Falls Flat

The current run rate is not good just 7.48, which is not enough to even think about 300. In fact, even reaching 200 from here will be tough. This is especially surprising since the match is being played at the Wankhede Stadium a ground known for high scores. But SRH’s top order hasn’t made the most of it. Head hasn’t played with his usual attacking style, Ishan couldn’t carry forward his form from the last game, and Nitish hasn't looked settled at all.

To make things tougher, Mumbai Indians have bowled really well. Jasprit Bumrah, and MI bowlers have kept SRH batters tight and haven’t allowed the SRH batters to break free. So, while Steyn’s prediction had everyone excited, the reality has turned out very different. SRH’s batters haven’t delivered, and the dream of a 300-run innings will have to wait for another day.

<![CDATA[Dale Steyn predicts 300 run carnage! Will MI vs SRH Explode in IPL 2025?]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/dale-steyn-predicts-300-run-carnage-will-mi-vs-srh-explode-in-ipl-2025/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/dale-steyn-predicts-300-run-carnage-will-mi-vs-srh-explode-in-ipl-2025/ Thu, 17 Apr 2025 13:30:11 GMT

The 33rd match of IPL 2025 between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) is set to take place today at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. Ahead of this highly anticipated clash, former South African pacer Dale Steyn has made a headline-grabbing prediction that’s stirring excitement among cricket fans. Steyn believes there’s a genuine possibility of witnessing the first-ever 300-run innings in T20 cricket during this game, a milestone that has eluded the format thus far.

Steyn shared his bold prediction on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) back on March 23. He specifically pointed to the MI vs SRH matchup as a potential historic moment for the IPL. His confidence stems from SRH’s explosive form earlier in the tournament when they posted a mammoth 286-run total against Rajasthan Royals — the second-highest team total in IPL history. Remarkably, they fell just two runs short of their record of 287 runs, set against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2024 season. With both teams boasting powerful batting line-ups and the Wankhede’s reputation for high-scoring games, all eyes are on whether Steyn’s prediction will come true.

“A small prediction. On April 17, we will see the first 300 runs in the IPL. Who knows, maybe I will also be there to see it,” Steyn’s tweet read.

MI vs SRH battle of superstars

Mumbai Indians (MI) currently sit seventh on the IPL 2025 points table, having secured two wins and suffered four losses in their six matches so far. In their previous outing, they edged past Delhi Capitals by 12 runs and will be eager to build on that momentum as they return to their fortress, Wankhede Stadium. With a strong batting line-up and home advantage, MI will be aiming to turn their campaign around with a solid performance in this crucial encounter.

Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) find themselves in ninth place with an identical record—two wins and four losses from six games. However, they come into this fixture with renewed confidence, having broken a four-match losing streak. SRH pulled off a stunning win against Punjab Kings by chasing down a massive 245, marking the second-highest successful chase in IPL history. That dominant victory could be the spark they needed to revive their season, making this clash against MI an exciting and potentially tightly-contested affair.

<![CDATA[Dale Steyn Criticize Today's Bowlers For Their Inconsistency]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/dale-steyn-criticize-today-s-bowlers-for-their-inconsistency/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/dale-steyn-criticize-today-s-bowlers-for-their-inconsistency/ Tue, 18 Mar 2025 19:32:26 GMT

Dale Steyn has criticised today's generation of bowlers who are too incompetent at the crucial stages of the game, many leak runs at the crucial stages of time which makes him scratch his head, that is why these people are doing this. It's been to accountability that bowlers need to step up on the difficult occasions which many fail to do this. Hardly some bowlers manage to do things on so.

Today's bowlers just run and bowl six bowls onto the pitch that it comes on Men have some line and length and variations which we lack in today fast fast-paced cricket. In earlier times how bowlers used to dominate the game which has been whispered completely. You are not paid just to bowl on the pitch but you have to create an impact which hardly some bowlers do. Your techniques are your vision not just in batting but in bowling too.

These guys are just gold are rare commodity.

Steyn at his time was a huge asset for South Africa he was not an ordinary bowler he was a tough customer to handle his ways of reacting to the situation and having an all-out attack attitude made him different from others and he was the longest reigning no1Test bowler for a long period. He goes on to say you look at the guys like Jasprit Bumrah and Kagiso Rabada whenever the captain gives the ball to them they provide the necessary breakthrough at a certain point of that time that is the thing which is lacking by today's bowler, these guys are just gold who are in rare commodity.

They know their ability and the situation and, what is been demanded from, them that makes them different from others. It's not everyone should be like them but one should possess enough skill to admit the game to be changed in his hands. That's why these guys are number one bowlers and they do what the team requires from them.

We Lack In the Fast Bowling Department

International cricket has changed a lot it merely focuses on batsmen rather than bowlers you bowl at 150 mph and the batsman smashes you off the ground often then the problem is you're not the batsman it's his nature to hit the ball, you are the one who has to show your variation and variety in it. We lack in a fast bowling department where there hardly bowlers like Bumrah if we try to produce more guys like this then the productivity rate of bowling will also be increased.

IIts been a limited source but you have acquire that technique to dismay the batsman ya they will charge then you too can you have to put the extra hard effort if batsman can read your mind so as you can too read theirs. Even Shane Bond who was aside with Steyn has the same thought where today's bowlers are clueless in the tuffest situation of the game this has to be rectified by themselves only.

Dale Steyn, the former South Africa speedster, announced that he won't return as the bowling coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well. Steyn, however, shared that he will continue coaching with Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20 league as well.

Dale Steyn was unavailable in IPL 2024

"A big thank you to Sunrisers Hyderabad for my few years with them as bowling coach at the IPL, unfortunately, I won't be returning for IPL 2025," Steyn stated in a post on X. "However, I will continue to work with Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20 here in South Africa."

However, earlier this year, Dale Steyn had made himself unavailable for this year's IPL due to personal reasons and the franchise brought in former New Zealand cricketer James Franklin as their bowling coach who worked alongside head coach Daniel Vettori as well.

Dale Steyn played a key role in grooming Umran Malik

However, Dale Steyn had represented Deccan Chargers (now defunct), Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers and Gujarat Lions (now defunct) in the IPL during his IPL playing days.
