The defending champions, Barbados Royals Women, registered a 7-wicket win in their opening game by virtue of the DLS method, as they were ahead of the par score when the game stopped due to floodlight failure.

On the other hand, Trinbago Knight Riders Women, the runners-up of last season, are off to a bad start. The batters didn’t support the brilliant bowling performance, failing to chase down a small target of 130 runs.

The Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) is all set to return for its fourth edition in September 2025, adding more excitement to the Carnival of Cricket. The tournament will run alongside the men’s CPL, which will be nearing its final stages.

The action begins on September 6, 2025, when Guyana Amazon Warriors Women face Trinbago Knight Riders Women in the opening match. Three teams will fight for the title this year defending champions Barbados Royals Women, Guyana Amazon Warriors Women, and Trinbago Knight Riders Women. Barbados will start their title defence on September 7.

The WCPL will have just seven matches, including the final, making it a short and thrilling tournament. Each team will play the others twice in the league stage, and the top two will meet in the final to decide the winner. All matches will be played at the Guyana National Stadium from September 6 to 17.

The crowd in Manchester saw a real nail-biter as Manchester Originals Women defeated Northern Superchargers Women by just 5 runs in a low-scoring match. Batting first, the Originals struggled at the start. Captain Beth Mooney got out early, and runs were not coming easily. At one stage, they were 22/2 inside 25 balls. Amelia Kerr added some stability with 21 runs, but it was Deandra Dottin who completely changed the game.

She smashed a brilliant 51 from only 26 balls, hitting powerful shots all around the ground. Thanks to her knock, the Originals managed to post 117/5 in their 100 balls, which looked like a fighting total.

The Superchargers began their chase steadily, with Phoebe Litchfield (31) and Alice Davidson-Richards (29) keeping their side in the game. But the Originals bowlers never gave up. Kathryn Bryce took two important wickets early on, while Sophie Ecclestone (2/9) and Amelia Kerr (2/10) bowled wwll in crucial times.

Nicola Carey fought hard towards the end, but when she was dismissed, the Superchargers fell short. In the end, Manchester Originals held their nerves and walked away with a hard-earned 5-run victory, much to the delight of their fans.

<![CDATA[Watch: Furious Deandra Dottin changes the semi-final chase in an over with 3 sixes]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/furious-deandra-dottin-changes-the-semifinal-chase-in-an-over-with-3-sixes/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/furious-deandra-dottin-changes-the-semifinal-chase-in-an-over-with-3-sixes/ Sat, 19 Oct 2024 01:01:17 GMT

Although New Zealand Women won the second semi-final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 against West Indies Women, the Caribbean star Deandra Dottin had an unforgettable night both with the ball and the bat.

Sharjah hosted the second semi-final between West Indies Women and New Zealand on Friday. While New Zealand Women scored 128/9 after winning the toss, West Indies Women only managed to score 120/8.

However, Dottin had a great night. Her bowling helped the Caribbean team to make a comeback in the game strongly, and her explosive batting suddenly opened up a new hope in deteriorating West Indies innings.

The right-arm medium-fast bowler Dottin took four wickets in the first innings (4/22), as she became the first bowler to record more than two four+ wicket hauls in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup history.

Deandra Dottin smashed three sixes in an over

Chasing the 129-run target, West Indies were already struggling at 63/5 in the 14th over. The Caribbean team had the major hope in the game with Deandra Dottin. Before the 16th over, West Indies Women scored 72/5, as they required 57 runs off 30 balls.

The right-arm pacer Lea Tahuhu came to bowl the 16th over. It was a game-changing over, where Dottin hit three sixes. Dottin welcomed Tahuhu with a sixer over deep mid-wicket that traveled to 79 meters.

On the fifth and sixth balls of the 16th over, Dottin smashed two consecutive sixes over deep mid-wicket and wide long-on, respectively. Dottin’s batting settled the narrowly as West Indies Women needed 34 runs off 24 balls, as the Caribbean team scored 23 runs in that over.

However, dependable Amelia Kerr had the last laugh as she dismissed Dottin in the next over, who scored 33 runs off 22 balls.

Dottin is a queen of sixer

In the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, only Dottin has smashed more than two sixes in an innings. While there are only Caribbean names in the list of more than one sixes in an innings of this tournament, Dottin recorded it four times apart from Qiana Joseph recording it one time.

With nine sixes, Dottin is far ahead of others in the list of most sixes in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Qiana Joseph is in the next place with three sixes.

Meanwhile, in the list of the most sixes in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup history, Dottin is leading with 31 sixes, while New Zealander Sophie Devine and Indian Harmanpreet Kaur are jointly in second place with 19 sixes each.

<![CDATA[ Deandra Dottin sets new record in Women's T20 World Cup history]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/deandra-dottin-sets-new-record-in-womens-t20-world-cup-history/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/deandra-dottin-sets-new-record-in-womens-t20-world-cup-history/ Fri, 18 Oct 2024 23:17:16 GMT

During the second semi-final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, West Indies star Deandra Dottin set up a new record in the tournament history.

Sharjah is hosting the second semi-final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 between West Indies Women and New Zealand Women. The 33-year-old right-arm pacer Deandra Dottin finished with bowling figures of 4-0-22-4 as New Zealand Women were restricted to 128/9 in 20 overs.

Deandra Dottin recorded her third four+ wicket haul in the Women's T20 WC

It was the third four+ wicket haul for Deandra Dottin in the Women’s T20 World Cup history. With this achievement, Dottin became the first bowler in tournament history to record more than two four+ wicket hauls.

Previously, Dottin recorded her first four-wicket haul in the Women’s T20 World Cup history during the 2014 edition when she recorded the bowling figures of 4-1-12-4 against England Women.

In the 2018 edition, Dottin claimed her first fifer in the Women’s T20 World Cup career, as her bowling figures were 3.4-1-5-5 against Bangladesh Women.

Former Indian Diana David still holds a special record

Among the bowlers with multiple four+ wicket hauls in the Women’s T20 World Cup history, Indian cricketer Diana David recorded it first. Moreover, she achieved that in a single tournament as she is still the only bowler to claim more than one 4+ wicket haul in the single edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup history.

During the 2010 edition, David took four wickets against New Zealand Women and Sri Lanka Women. After recording the bowling figures of 4-0-27-4 against the White Ferns, David had the bowling figures of 4-0-12-4 against the Lankans.
