Purani Dilli 6 (PD) kept their winning run going in the Delhi Premier League 2025 with a close 10-run win over New Delhi Tigers (NDT) in a high-scoring game at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Both teams crossed 200 runs, but PD’s tight bowling helps to win the match.

PD started scored with Samarth Seth smashing 80 off 46 balls, hitting 5 fours and 6 sixes. Pranav Pant added 46 off 36 to keep the scoreboard ticking, and late big hits from Aarush Malhotra (15 off 12), Lalit Yadav (10 off 8), and V. Bedi (31 off 9) pushed the total past 200. For NDT, Pankaj Jaswal was the best bowler, taking 3/28 in his 4 overs. The chase started badly for NDT as Dhruv Kaushik was run out without facing a ball.

But Shivam Gupta (39 off 24) and captain Himmat Singh (30 off 17) hit back hard in the powerplay. Vaibhav Rawal kept their hopes alive with a quick 62 off 35 balls, but his wicket in the 19th over proved costly. PD’s bowlers stayed calm under pressure. Udhav Mohan (2/29) and Pardeep Parashar (1/34) took key wickets, while Yug Gupta’s brilliant spell of 1/3 in the powerplay slowed things down and gave PD control early on.

Chetan Sharma shares views on ENG vs IND 2025 Tests and DPL youngsters]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/exclusive-chetan-sharma-shares-views-on-eng-vs-ind-2025-tests-and-dpl-youngsters/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/exclusive-chetan-sharma-shares-views-on-eng-vs-ind-2025-tests-and-dpl-youngsters/ Fri, 01 Aug 2025 14:16:25 GMT

The former Indian pacer, Chetan Sharma, was present during the auction of the first season of the CLT10 league. He achieved the first-ever World Cup hat-trick in October 1987 against New Zealand, when he dismissed Ken Rutherford, Ian Smith, and Ewen Chatfield on three successive balls.

The 59-year-old, who picked up 61 Test wickets in 39 innings at an average of 35.45 and had bagged 67 ODI wickets in 63 innings @34.86 at 34.86, has shared his views on the England vs India Test series and the second season of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) during an exclusive interview with the website.

Exclusive!! Chetan Sharma shares views on ENG vs IND 2025 Tests and DPL youngsters

The Punjab-born spoke about the importance of sports and how they want to grow the new CLT10 league, which will excite the kids, in the future.

Reporter: A new season of the Champions T10 League is starting. You have added cricketers, entertainers, and influencers to it. Please share something on this.

Chetan Sharma: See, I always encourage people to play sports, irrespective of which mode you are playing, whether it’s Tennis or hardball, hockey, or football. But kids should play sports. And if everyone comes to support them, then what will be better than that? Few people from the film and music industry have come to support the indoor CL10 game. You can see the excitement of the kids and the franchise. It’s good to see everyone supporting the sport.

Reporter: India is playing the Test series against England. Shubman Gill has done really well as the leader and with the bat. India can’t win the series, but what’s your takeaway on it?

Chetan Sharma: I think we fought well. We had almost won the Lord’s Test. The fortune was with them. The last Test, which we drew, was excellent. We have won one Test match. They are ahead by 2-1. I hope, in this Oval Test, we hit them hard and come back with 2-2. If we go outside and come back with a two-all margin, then it’s a huge achievement.

Reporter: Season two of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) is starting. They have already experienced international players in the IPL and will come back with it. Digvesh Rathi, Priyansh Arya, and Himmat Singh were good. How do you see it?

Chetan Sharma: See, they have come with international experiences. Once they come into the dressing room, they can share the experience with the youngsters. But once you come from the highest level in season two, the pressure remains on you. Now, you have to perform. The new bowlers and batters will want to do well against them. The previous season was excellent, and I hope this season also hits the same level.

In a significant update prior to the second season of the Delhi Premier League (DPL), Harshit Rana has been named the new Captain of the North Delhi Strikers, an Indian pacer who plays for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League, who is taking over from Pranshu Vijayran who captained them in the first season.

Rana's promotion to captaincy comes after the DPL 2025 auction yesterday on July 6. It is considered a part of the franchise's move to provide a more aggressive, experienced leadership for the group. Since he was retained before the auction, Rana was still considered the team's plans heading into next season.

The 22-year-old fast bowler has made good strides in the past couple of years. He burst onto the scene in the IPL 2024 season with 19 wickets in 13 matches at an average of 20.15 and helped KKR grab their third IPL trophy. He did serve a one-match suspension for a Code of Conduct breach during the season, but he definitely had a number of people talk about him with respect to his competitive nature.

Rana’s Rise Continues as He Takes Charge of North Delhi Strikers

After winning over fans of the IPL, Rana received his national call-up and played two Test matches on the tour of Australia, taking four wickets. He did, however, miss out on selection in the series against England where India instead called up Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, and Prasidh Krishna.

In T20 cricket, Rana has featured in 39 matches and taken 46 wickets averaging 24.84 with an economy of 9.36. Given his aggressive bowling and ability to take wickets, Rana is clearly an exciting prospect for North Delhi as a captain.

The DPL 2025 season, set to begin in the first week of August, will feature eight teams, two more than last season. All matches will be played at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. North Delhi Strikers, who made it to the semi-finals last year, will be hoping that Rana’s appointment can take them one step further this time around.

<![CDATA[[WATCH] Virat Kohli's Nephew trains ahead of Delhi Premier League 2025]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-virat-kohli-s-nephew-trains-ahead-of-delhi-premier-league-2025/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-virat-kohli-s-nephew-trains-ahead-of-delhi-premier-league-2025/ Fri, 18 Jul 2025 12:33:22 GMT

Just five weeks after the retirement of Virat Kohli from the longest format of the game, a new Kohli has emerged in the town. The former Indian captain’s nephew, Aryaveer Kohli, is training withno baggageof famed surname as he looks to be known for his skills. Unlike his uncle, Aryaveer wants to be a lethal leg spinner for the national side in the future.

The first step of any goal is to sweat in the nets, irrespective of batting and bowling, under the coaches. And Aryaveer is doing the same under the guidance of the former Indian players and the current Delhi coach, Sarandeep Singh. He is the son of Virat’s elder brother, Vikas, and was bought by the South Delhi Superstarz, as one of the highest-paid players of the league alongside IPL's Digvesh Rathi for a price of INR 38 lakh.

Aryaveer Kohli is a rising star. He’s quite young. There’s no baggage of the surname on the young lad. He’s a really good and talented kid. He’s been practicing and putting in the hard work.Sarandeep expressed regarding the young leg-spinner, who was seen to be bowling at a right-handed batter in the training session.

Watch: Virat Kohli’s nephew trains before the Delhi Premier League 2025

Aryaveer is a young spinner who can catch the eyes of the IPL scouts if he does well in the Delhi Premier League (DPL). It’s a platform where the likes of Rathi and Priyansh Arya got into the scenes before leading the IPL contracts. It’s a great opportunity for the spinner to do well, and besides that, he will also have the guidance of his uncle to keep doing well in domestic cricket.

Kohli, on the other hand, has already retired from the T20Is and Tests, but he remains available for the ODIs, keeping an eye on the upcoming 2027 ODI World Cup. He is currently in London with his family. There was a scheduled Bangladesh tour of three ODIs, which has now been canceled. Hence, the fans will need to wait longer to see their favorite batter in the field.

However, there are talks going between the BCCI and the Sri Lanka cricket board for a proposal of a short-white-ball series in August. If the Indian board accepts it and everything goes as planned, then Kohli can return to the India colours for the first time since the Champions Trophy 2025 final.

The Purani Dilli 6 franchise went into the DPL 2025 auction with a major advantage the retention of Indian star Rishabh Pant for ₹21 lakh. With one of the league’s biggest names as their face, the team focused on building a youthful, dynamic, and versatile squad around him.

The most expensive signing for Purani Dilli 6 was pacer Rajneesh Dadar, snapped up for ₹19 lakh. His recent performances in local and zonal cricket have earned him a reputation as a breakthrough artist with the ball. The addition of experienced all-rounder Lalit Yadav for ₹10 lakh adds solidity in the middle order and control with the ball.

The franchise made strong acquisitions in the ₹14-16 lakh range, like Vansh Bedi (₹16 lakh) - an experienced top-order batter - and Dev Lakra (₹14 lakh); an intelligent left-arm spinner and lower-order hitting option. The two notable players together have the dual effect where the team can be flexible with both batting and bowling.

Emerging Talent and Bench Strength Highlight Squad Depth

A solid core has been established at the top end of the market, with promising names from the domestic circuit: Samarth Seth (₹9 lakh), Aayush Singh (₹9 lakh), Pranav Pant (₹6 lakh), and Udhav Mohan (₹6.50 lakh). Each of these players has either depth in the form of Delhi cricket pedigree or has displayed promising form in the domestic circuit.

Fresh emerging names like Yug Gupta, Vivek Yadav, and Ekansh Dobal were selected for under ₹5 lakh, which shows the franchise is investing strongly in raw, upcoming talent's potential. And the group is rounded off by versatile bowlers such as Agrim Sharma, Prince Mishra, and Rushal Saini.

Lastly, to manage and have options for policy rotation to build more depth in their squad, they added several players at base price-with players like Aryan Kapoor, Pardeep Parashar, Manjeet, Ashish Chaurasiya, Gaurav Saroha, Aditya Malhotra, and Dhruv Chauhan potentially making that 25-player pool stronger. These names may be a bit left (or right) of the center; however, they are elite reserve bench players.

The West Delhi Lions came into the DPL 2025 auction with a clear goal a well-developed squad surrounding a strong retained core. With Ayush Doseja (₹10 lakh) as the team's only retention, the Lions had the budget and freedom to make big moves, and they did by acquiring some of the biggest domestic names available.

The headline-grabbing signing was Nitish Rana, the seasoned IPL campaigner and aggressive top-order batter, bought for ₹34 lakh. His leadership credentials and ability to anchor innings or accelerate make him a cornerstone of the Lions’ campaign. Joining him is veteran India pacer Ishant Sharma (₹13 lakh), whose experience will be invaluable in guiding the younger bowlers. His addition adds gravitas and firepower to the bowling attack, especially in the powerplay and at the death.

Smart Buys and Youthful Flair

The Lions showed great tactical awareness by picking up spin-bowling all-rounder Hritik Shokeen (₹5 lakh) and pace-bowling all-rounder Mayank Gusain (₹17 lakh), both of whom offer balance and versatility.

Shivank Vashisth (₹5 lakh), Ankit Rajesh Kumar (₹10 lakh), and Laxman (₹5.50 lakh) were sharp mid-tier selections that all had solid domestic resumes. Promising youngsters Krish Yadav (₹7 lakh) and Manan Bhardwaj (₹6.50 lakh) provided an injection of youth to the squad, while Shubham Dubey (₹6 lakh) and Anirudh Chowdhary (₹6.25 lakh) carried finishing skills and experience.

West Delhi finalized their squad by adding many low-cost, high-upside players, namely Tishant Dabla, Vishal Abhua, Vikas Rana, Akshay Kapoor, Kabir Sachdeva, and Rishabh Rana, each for ₹1 lakh. The players will not be first-choice starters at the beginning, but they can develop into solid/competent depth players and provide the flexibility to run deep into the season.
