During a gripping IPL 2025 match between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Dewald Brevis made an incredible catch that would be featured on all highlight reels for the tournament. When PBKS found themselves at 180/3 after being at 11 runs needed from 16 balls chasing CSK’s 191, Brevis flip-flopped the game with his athletic ability. The moment showcased Brevis jumping near the boundary, taking a vital wicket, and the CSK fans erupted in celebrations.

PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer was simply sublime with an innings of 71 off 39, and the other batsman, Shashank Singh, provided 23 off 11. CSK bowler Ravindra Jadeja finished his 2.2 overs with 27 runs for no wickets, and all the pressure was on him as PBKS was close to victory. Brevis was fielding with nonstop energy though and appeared to have caught a key batsman out, possibly Iyer, based on the game situation, by making a spectacular catch. Social media was ablaze as many social media posts on X commended the 21-year-old as he made an acrobatic effort, which even appeared that he pushed the ball back into play midair, which was reminiscent of a great athlete making an athletic catch. CSK legend MS Dhoni afterwards also praised Brevis, saying that it was youthful exuberance, which meant it was a game changer.

A Defining Moment For Brevis & CSK

Although CSK ended up losing by four wickets, Brevis could take heart from his spectacular catch earlier in the match. CSK, the five-time champions, are having a season to forget. Signed on a replacement deal for the injured Gurjapneet Singh, Brevis already had a good on-field debut for CSK, scoring 42 (25) against Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, it was his fielding that stood out against PBKS. The catch disrupted PBKS’s momentum while at the same time signaling that the South African has the makings of a complete cricketer in transition. As CSK tries to rebuild, the moments like these remind everyone why the South African, nicknamed 'Baby AB,' will be an important part of CSK’s future plans as he offers energetic fielding and explosive batting all in one package.

In the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) IPL 2025 game, Kamindu Mendis was in the limelight with a shocking catch that tilted the game in their favor. The game was hosted at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, and CSK was dominating at 115/4. Dewald Brevis was playing aggressively and seemed destined to take his team to a massive score.

In the 13th over of the innings, Harshal Patel bowled a ball outside the off stump. Brevis timed it to perfection and targeted a boundary towards long-off. But Kamindu Mendis, with lightning-fast reaction and athletic excellence, rushed to his left and dived full length to catch the ball just as it was about to touch the ground.

The stadium was shocked into silence. The audience was left speechless by what they had just seen. That was not only the end of Brevis' firecracker innings of 42 runs on 24 balls but also the advantage to SRH. Mendis' fielding abilities were universally appreciated, and many referred to it as one of the top catches of the season.

SRH won their third game after defeating CSK

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) comfortably won by 5 wickets against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 45 of IPL 2025. CSK batted first but were restricted to just 154, with Dewald Brevis (42) and Ayush Mhatre (30) the only two making any contributions. Harshal Patel took 4 wickets while Pat Cummins bowled economically, and CSK's batting and their lack of a competitive total were subpar.

SRH chased down the 155 target easily in 18.4 overs, with Ishan Kishan scoring 44 and Kamindu Mendis 32 not out. CSK started smartly with Khaleel Ahmed taking an early wicket with two from Noor Ahmad, then it was all STRH from there. Now CSK batting failures and poor fielding performances have really added pressure to make the playoffs from now on!

<![CDATA[Will Dewald Brevis Play Today Against SRH? CSK Coach Gives Hint]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/will-dewald-brevis-play-today-against-srh-csk-coach-gives-hint/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/will-dewald-brevis-play-today-against-srh-csk-coach-gives-hint/ Fri, 25 Apr 2025 11:37:09 GMT

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is about to play Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2025’s 43rd match at MA Chidambaram Stadium on the 25th of April. CSK hasn’t had a great season, losing six out of eight matches and ruining their chances of making the playoffs this season. CSK’s season has been inconsistent, particularly in the batting department, preventing CSK bowlers from giving them a defendable total.

CSK’s issues are rooted in auction strategy, where CSK placed importance on establishing a good top order but didn’t build a middle-order plan. This lack of quality or depth in the middle order became apparent when CSK top-order players didn’t play well in the majority of matches. Additionally, when Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was injured, it depleted the batting lineup further. While CSK’s bowlers made great efforts to keep CSK in games, the batting lineup failed to either set a competitive total or chase the total down, leading to CSK’s poor start.

Now CSK will go against SRH with a very weak chance of starting an upturn, and CSK’s management faces a lot of pressure on how to fix the situation and improve overall squad composition. If CSK does make changes as they are speculated to, then they will select players to get CSK back on track.

Dewald Brevis: An Impact Player in the Making?

Recently, CSK acquired 19-year-old South African batter Dewald Brevis to replace injured Gurjapneet Singh at a cost of INR 2.2 crore after Brevis went unsold in the mega-auction. Brevis played the last two IPL seasons with the Mumbai Indians, so CSK must be familiar with his explosive potential, as the young Indian had an overall strike rate of 133.72 in ten IPL matches and 230 runs. CSK's addition of Brevis is noteworthy, given that they were able to take advantage of their one replacement overseas player in this situation.

Head Coach Stephen Fleming said Brevis could play against SRH. In fact, Fleming said Brevis could be playing against them. But he stated CSK will stay loyal to many players who have stuck it out for the duration of the season. "He's one of the options that we'll look at... Brevis is a good addition to the squad, but we just have to manage what we think will be the best team." As CSK desperately searches for a spark, Brevis may be able to provide the explosive impact that allows them to reinvigorate their season.

<![CDATA[IPL 2025: Why is Dewald Brevis not playing in CSK vs MI IPL 2025 match 38?]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-why-is-dewald-brevis-not-playing-in-csk-vs-mi-ipl-2025-match-38/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-why-is-dewald-brevis-not-playing-in-csk-vs-mi-ipl-2025-match-38/ Sun, 20 Apr 2025 15:34:20 GMT

On Sunday, April 20, the iconic Wankhede Stadium set the stage for IPL 2025 Match 38 as Mumbai Indians faced off against arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings. With both teams struggling to find form this season, the clash carried added pressure and significance. Fans from both camps were buzzing with anticipation, hoping their side could get back on track. Mumbai looked to build momentum at home, while Chennai desperately sought a turnaround after being anchored at the bottom of the points table.

Chennai Super Kings made key changes to their playing XI for this high-stakes encounter. One of the biggest talking points was the debut of 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre, who replaced the injured Ruturaj Gaikwad. The youngster's inclusion brought excitement among fans, who are eager to witness fresh talent. However, not everyone was pleased, as many questioned the exclusion of South African prodigy Dewald Brevis, also known as 'Baby AB', from the starting eleven.

Despite the buzz around Dewald Brevis, the young South African was surprisingly left out of the playing XI. While CSK has not issued any official clarification, it is believed that Brevis' recent arrival and limited preparation time may have influenced the decision. Travel fatigue and the need to adjust to local conditions could also be contributing factors. Additionally, with overseas slots occupied by Rachin Ravindra, Jamie Overton, Matheesha Pathirana, and Noor Ahmad, the team may be opting to persist with Overton for balance.

Know the real reason why Dewald Brevis is not playing

CSK have not released any official statement regarding Dewald Brevis' exclusion from the playing XI. However, reports suggest that the South African youngster only arrived a couple of days ago, and may not be fully acclimatized to the conditions. Travel fatigue could be another contributing factor, making it difficult for him to be match-ready in time for the clash against Mumbai Indians. As a result, the management might have opted to give him more time before slotting him into the side.

Another possible reason for his omission could be team composition. With CSK already fielding four overseas players—Rachin Ravindra, Jamie Overton, Matheesha Pathirana, and Noor Ahmad—the only replaceable option appears to be Overton. However, the team seems keen on backing Overton for now, possibly to maintain balance. Since there isn’t an available spot in the current combination, Brevis, also known as Baby AB, had to sit out despite the buzz around his inclusion.

Chennai Super Kings have made a bold mid-season move, signing South African youngster Dewald Brevis as a replacement for injured pacer Gurjapneet Singh for the rest of the IPL 2025 season. The 21-year-old joins CSK for INR 2.2 Crore, significantly higher than his base price of INR 75 Lakh at the auction late last year.

This move comes at a crucial time for CSK, who are sitting at the bottom of the points table with just two wins from seven games. Injuries and poor form have plagued their campaign so far, and with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad already ruled out, the management has been on the lookout for players who can shake things up. In Brevis, they’ve brought in someone with raw talent, big-match temperament, and serious firepower.

Known to fans as 'Baby AB' because of his striking similarity to AB de Villiers, Brevis is not just hype. He has played 81 T20s, scored 1,787 runs, and holds a staggering strike rate close to 145. His top score? A jaw-dropping 162, scored off just 57 balls in South Africa’s domestic T20 league. At 21, he’s already showing signs of a future star.

A Rising Star Who's Already Making Waves

Brevis made his T20I debut for South Africa in 2023 and has played two international matches so far. But he first grabbed headlines during the 2022 U-19 World Cup, where he smashed 506 runs, setting a tournament record. That tournament cemented his name as one to watch. He’s no stranger to the IPL either. Brevis was part of the Mumbai Indians setup, where he played 10 matches, and he continues to represent the MI teams in both the SA20 and MLC.

Earlier this year in SA20, he was on fire, finishing among the top 10 run-scorers with a blistering strike rate of 184.17, the highest in that bracket. He’s been in good touch for the Titans back home too, scoring consistently across formats. With CSK’s middle order misfiring apart from the efforts of Rachin Ravindra and Shivam Dube, Brevis arrives at the perfect time to add some much-needed spark.

This is CSK’s second replacement signing of the season. They had earlier brought in young Mumbai batter Ayush Mhatre to fill in for Gaikwad. Now, Brevis joins the mix, and fans are already buzzing with excitement, especially after his cryptic yellow-themed Instagram post on Friday afternoon that hinted at a move to CSK. The timing couldn’t be better either. CSK’s next match is against their arch-rivals Mumbai Indians, on April 20 at the Wankhede. A debut against his former team? That would be quite the script.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans finally have something to smile about, as the team ropes in explosive South African batter Dewald Brevis for the rest of IPL 2025. The 21-year-old replaces injured pacer Gurjapneet Singh, who has been ruled out for the season. Brevis, known for his fearless strokeplay and ‘Baby AB’ tag, was signed for INR 2.2 crore. Interestingly, he had dropped a cryptic yellow post on Instagram just hours before the official announcement, teasing fans with what was coming.

Brevis may have gone unsold in the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, but his return has stirred excitement. The right-hander brings with him experience from his time with Mumbai Indians (MI), where he played 10 matches across two seasons, scoring 230 runs at an average of 23 and a strike rate of 133.73. His dynamic batting and electric energy could be just what CSK needs to bounce back in a season that’s been filled with ups and downs. Fans are hoping his inclusion sparks a turnaround in the team’s fortunes.

The young batter shot to fame during the 2022 ICC Under-19 World Cup, where he piled up 506 runs in just six innings, including two centuries and three fifties. The South Africa batter made his T20I debut for South Africa in 2023 and has scored 1787 runs in 81 T20s so far, with a highest score of 162. Known for his fearless hitting and 360-degree game, Brevis is often compared to AB de Villiers. Now donning yellow, he’s set to create fireworks with CSK and make his mark once again.

CSK have already made two changes in their squad

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have made their second player swap of the IPL 2025 season, with Ayush Mhatre stepping in for the injured Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is sidelined due to an elbow fracture. In Gaikwad’s absence, the legendary MS Dhoni has returned to lead the squad. The refreshed team lineup includes key players like Devon Conway, Sam Curran, Dewald Brevis, Ravindra Jadeja, and Rachin Ravindra. Despite a promising start, CSK have only managed two wins from seven matches, leaving their playoff hopes in a precarious position.

Their upcoming clash against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium is a crucial one. CSK had earlier defeated MI at Chepauk, but a run of five straight defeats since then has put them on the back foot. Now, the team is counting on Dewald Brevis’s youthful energy and MS Dhoni’s iconic leadership to spark a much-needed comeback. A win against MI could be the turning point in CSK’s season, reigniting their confidence and setting them on the path to revive their playoff campaign.

Dewald Brevis' Stunning Catch Highlights Rain-Impacted SA20 Clash

Brevis' Brilliant Boundary Catch

During the SA20 match at Wanderers on Saturday, an amazing thing happened. Dewald Brevis, sometimes additionally named as Little AB because of his amazing fielding, made an unforgettable boundary catch. Mr. Brevis caught out Faf du Plessis, the captain of the Joburg Super Kings, who was playing well on 30 runs and about to hit a six off Kagiso Rabada's delivery in the eighth over—but then, Brevis stepped up and made a big difference.

Kagiso Rabada's Impressive Bowling Performance

Brevis was near the edge of the field when he jumped high, just before the ball could go out, showing everyone how athletic and quick he was, even though the ground was very damp and slick. He then did something imbued with a high level of intelligence by throwing the ball in the air, diving back to the safe side of the boundary, and grasping it again, to make sure he caught it.

People watching couldn't believe what they just saw and were amazed. After the umpire considered it closely and said the catch was good, everyone started verbalizing about how amazing Brevis' move was. Even the cricket league shouted him out, saying, Dewald Brevis! You absolute beauty! That is an amazing grab! And that moment just became really popular on the internet, making it one of the most impressive parts of the game.

Kagiso Rabada's Impressive Bowling Performance

In the match, Kagiso Rabada really did an excellent job with his bowling. Mister Rabada was unfathomably on-point, making completely certain MI Cape Town didn't get too far, especially with the rain destroying things. The individual finished with amazing stats, securing 2 wickets for just 10 runs. His skill at hitting the right spots and not letting the bat get the best of him was what stood out.

Rain Delays and DLS Victory for Joburg Super Kings

Even though Brevis was imbued with a high level of intelligence with his play and Rabada was amazing at bowling, MI Cape Town making 140/6 didn't prove sufficient for a win. The game was effectively ruined a lot by rain, and after several stops, Joburg Super Kings needed 136 runs to win. They were doing quite well, at 82/3 in 11.3 overs, when the rain came back and stopped the game for good. Leus du Plooy (24 not out) and Wihan Lubbe (0 not out) were at the crease when the match was called off, ensuring a six-run Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) victory for Joburg Super Kings. The rain ultimately helped the Super Kings claim four crucial points, keeping them firmly in the race.

MI Cape Town’s Struggle and Resilience

MI Cape Town had a tough start, sitting at a wobbly 30 runs for 4 wickets. But then, George Linde obtained 48 and Delano Potgieter got 44 runs, teaming up to add 65 runs to the total, getting their team to a good score of 140 runs for 6 wickets. Yet, all that got mostly forgotten because of the rain and an amazing fielding move by Brevis that everyone will always remember. Despite their valiant efforts, MI Cape Town couldn't fend off the rain or the brilliance of Brevis' catch, leaving Joburg Super Kings to celebrate a narrow, rain-affected win.

In the match, Dewald Brevis caught a hit by Faf du Plessis at the boundary, and it was truly the most amazing part of the entire game. It showed everyone how great he is at catching and moving fast, especially when things get tense. Everyone watching, and the other players too, were really amazed and it will likely be one of the most spoken-about moments in the SA20 tournament.

The rain messed up the game, and they had to use the special method for rain-delayed matches to decide the winner, but Brevis' catch was a perfect example of how one amazing play can grasp everyone's attention and even change what happens in the match.

<![CDATA[Mumbai Indians Success in Scouting for the Future: IPL 2022]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/mumbai-indians-success-in-scouting-for-the/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/mumbai-indians-success-in-scouting-for-the/ Sun, 22 May 2022 06:01:59 GMT

The Mumbai Indians have always been good at scouting young talent. Their knack for finding potential has helped unearth the likes of Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah and even Kieron Pollard in the early years. This season has been far from their best, but the Mumbai Indians have had one benefit of being eliminated early. They were able to try new players, and with an under-par auction, the Mumbai Indians had a lot of inexperienced players, who were yet to be tried. This season though, with Mumbai out early and the likes of Suryakumar Yadav injured, gave the Mumbai Indians a chance to try play new faces.

Among the newcomers, Tilak Varma was easily the most impressive. He played all fourteen games and looked least bothered, facing some of the best bowlers in the World. His technique and temperament stood out as Varma was Mumbai’s most consistent batter this season, after Suryakumar Yadav got ruled out. He was three runs short of 400 for the season, and is a candidate for the emerging player of the season. With Mumbai losing batting power in the form of De Kock and the Pandya brothers, Varma’s rise comes as a gift as Mumbai Indians can now start building another strong middle-order.

Another middle-order candidate who has impressed is Dewald Brevis. He has been termed Baby AB before the season and his shots show why he has such a tag. While Dewald Brevis didn’t get off to a flyer this season he had some decent starts. The starts provide were enough to give a decent insight on what Dewald Brevis has in store and how he can contribute to the batting line-up.

After Tilak Varma though, the biggest boost to the batting line-up would be Tim David. Tim David is already a huge name in the franchise circuit but after a poor season with RCB, David’s name fell a touch in India. Mumbai Indians though, showed their scouting and tactical skills yet again, and invested a fair bit in him. With Kieron Pollard inconsistent, the appointment of Tim David helps them find an explosive finisher, and David has given glimpses in his last two games, despite the poor start.

With David, Varma and Brevis going strong, the Mumbai Indians have found some players who could be rotated around the likes of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, giving Mumbai five strong batters. In the bowling attack, Mumbai found some nice spinners, a hole in their side since Rahul Chahar left. Both Shokeen and Kartikeya were given a fair run in the side. With four to five games between them, the spinners maintained decent economy rates and showed that they have what it takes to hold their own in the IPL. They are still not the most aggressive and wicket-taking options, but are still young and have the ability to learn how to find wicket-taking deliveries.

The fast-bowling unit has also acquired some nice names this season. Daniel Sams got off to one of the worst starts in the IPL. He was expensive, and looked hopeless early on. As the games went on though, Sams improved and even beat David Miller in a final over shootout, defending nine runs. The game boosted his confidence and he became a consistent wicket-taker over the remainder of the season.

Another bowler who has impressed is Ramandeep Singh. Playing five games, Ramandeep has impressed with his ability to bowl a few overs at the death, and take wickets too. As a batter, Ramandeep has done enough to show that he is a capable middle to the lower-order batter, and with his skillset, he could play the role Hardik Pandya used to as a finisher who could bowl a couple of handy overs.

With some nice names in the spin and pace department coming up, the Mumbai line-up looks a little better than it did at the start of the season. The Mumbai Indians are normally slow starters after a mega auction, and next season they could be among the more dangerous sides now that they have found a balance in their line-up. With Jofra Archer primed to return, the bowling attack will look even stronger with Bumrah and Archer partnering up.

<![CDATA[IPL 2022: Debutants Who have Impressed So Far]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2022-debutants-who-have-impressed/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2022-debutants-who-have-impressed/ Fri, 22 Apr 2022 18:08:34 GMT

IPL 2022 has reached its middle stages and there are some strong talents on show. 30 odd games in, the young talent on display seems to be carrying the IPL with many of the experienced hands having a tough time out in the middle.

Dewald Brevis

Dewald Brevis came into the tournament with the tag of Baby AB around him. He showed his range in the under-19 World Cup with some wonderful unorthodox shots and is starting nicely at the Mumbai Indians. Getting his chance after a few games on the bench, Dewald Brevis found his rhythm quickly. In five games, he got a start on four and has shown that he can carry his run of form from the Under-19 World Cup to the IPL.

He is using the dimensions of the ground well as expected, and surely has the potential to live up to his title as Baby AB. Additionally, Dewald Brevis has another interesting moment in IPL 2022. He dismissed Virat Kohli on the first ball he bowled to the great and such a moment is surely enough to make a statement in the league.

Tilak Varma

The Mumbai Indians are known to be good at scouting and that is a reason as to why they have two debutants who are making an impression on the tournament. Although the side is still winless, they have positives in the performance of both Tilak Varma and Dewald Brevis.

The 19-year-old batter has displayed immense consistency and responsibility and is turning out to be Mumbai’s best batter in IPL 2022. He already has a couple of fifties and has taken on some of the best bowlers in the league. His performance against Rajasthan is one such game which saw him pick the bowling nicely as he took on the likes of Trent Boult and Ravi Ashwin. Against Chennai Super Kings, Tilak Varma played a responsible hand as he came in with the side three down for very little.

Taking his time, Tilak Varma did well to bat through the innings and also provided some lusty blows to get MI to a reasonable score.

Ayush Badoni

Like Dewald Brevis, Ayush Badoni got off to a bright start in IPL 2022 with some unorthodox shots as a finsher. He started with a fifty when a run-chase was in a tense position. The fifty was full of unorthodox hits and he remained calm throughout. He went on to provide a couple more death-over finishes, and is finding the ropes with ease.

Ayush Badoni hasn’t scored as much in the last few games of IPL 2022 but that is more down to less batting time. He started the season as an exciting talent and with half the tournament to go, he is likely to continue making an impact as a finisher and definitely has a lot of promise moving forward.

Maheesh Theeskhana

The Sri Lankan leg-spinner has come in when his side was struggling with the new-ball. Bowling in the powerplay, Theekshana instantly made impact and helped CSK solve two issues which was ruining their campaign. He helped CSK with the new ball and also played the role of an aggressive spinner, which CSK lacked despite the presence of Ali and Jadeja. Four games in, Theekshana has seven wickets and his role against RCB, taking four wickets in the game was crucial in getting CSK up and running in IPL 2022.

Jitesh Sharma

Jitesh Sharma is another player who has been on the sidelines and has had very few chances to show his skills. In the games where he did get a chance to play with some substance, he has been pretty handy. He is getting into the 20s and 30s on a regular basis and with the middle-order struggling, Jitesh Sharma is helping the Punjab Kings heavily with his runs in that stage. He has also handled pressure fairly well, playing out Jasprit Bumrah and finding runs the next as Punjab were in a tough situation while setting a total against the Mumbai Indians.

There have been a few other talents popping up with Vaibhav Arora, Abhinav Manohar and Mukesh Choudhary among the debutants going well in IPL 2022. With half the season left and teams likely to use their bench more, the upcoming games may see more youngsters come out and show their skills as IPL 2022 rolls on.
