Dewald Brevis, the young South African sensation, left the Narendra Modi Stadium in awe during the Angel One Super Sixes Challenge, a six-hitting tournament that harked back to the entertaining contests of previous IPL seasons. Brevis smashed a massive hit down the ground from a bowling machine and smashed one right through the sightscreen. The crowd was aghast and smashed the competition's maximum 6-hitting prize of Rs 2 lacs, with the longest hit of the challenge at 114 meters. Brevis, who is often referred to as "Baby AB" (for his likeness to AB de Villiers), was the top run-scorer for CSK among overseas batters (6 innings). Brevis' strike rate of 180.0 certainly played into this aggressive batting.

Dewald Brevis's entry to CSK turned out to be a blessing in disguise. He signed midseason due to the absence of Gurjapneet Singh through injury, and his inclusion injected much-needed energy and firepower into the squad. While CSK had one of their toughest seasons ever--finishing last for the first time in their 16 years of being a franchise--Dewald emerged as a key performer. He gave the team some fight, and while he was one of the few standout performers, his short sample of match-winning performances reminded the CSK faithful of better days.

Impact on the GT vs CSK Match

Dewald Brevis was a key player for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) when they took on Gujarat Titans (GT) on May 25, 2025. After CSK lost wickets regularly, Brevis came to bat and struck an important 57 runs off of just 23 balls. The innings changed the momentum completely for CSK after it seemed to be trending the opposite way before Brevis batted. Brevis played an aggressive innings and struck four boundaries and five sixes. Brevis's innings not only stabilized the innings for CSK but also helped CSK to their best total of the season at 230/5 for CSK. Overall, Dewald Brevis changed the game, and a match that seemed to be poorly setting up turned quickly in CSK's favor with Brevis's great innings.

In Match no 67 of IPL 2025, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won against Gujarat Titans (GT) by a big margin of 83 runs. CSK Batted first, they scored a massive score of 230 runs, and in reply, GT failed to chase the target.

CSK’s batters went all guns blazing right from the start. Young Ayush Mhatre lit up the stadium with a quickfire 34 off just 17 balls, which included a standout over that went 2, 6, 6, 4, 4, 6. Dewald Brevis smashed a brilliant 57 off 23 balls, while Devon Conway played a steady hand with 52 from 35 deliveries. Urvil Patel also scored quick runs 37 off 19 balls, helping CSK reach one of the highest total runs of the season.

Despite the big score, a few GT bowlers showed some fight. Prasidh Krishna was the best of the lot, picking up 2 wickets for just 22 runs in his 4 overs. Shahrukh Khan bowled only one over but got a wicket while giving away 13 runs. Sai Kishore also took a wicket, but was expensive, conceding 23 runs in 2 overs

Chasing a huge total of 231, GT never really got going. Sai Sudharsan tried to hold things together with a solid 41 off 28 balls. Arshad Khan (20 off 14) and Shahrukh Khan (19 off 15) made small contributions, but the rest of the batting fell apart.CSK’s bowlers made sure there was no way back for GT. Anshul Kamboj was an outstanding performer, taking 3 wickets for just 13 runs in 2.3 overs. Noor Ahmad also took 3 wickets, giving away only 21 runs in 4 overs. Ravindra Jadeja kept things tight and picked up 2 wickets for 17 runs in 3 overs.

The carnage, which was initiated by Ayush Mhatre, finished with Dewald Brevis. The upcoming South African star batter shattered the stability of Gujarat Titans' (GT) bowling line-up.

After dismissing Mhatre and Devon Conway, Prasidh Krishna and other GT bowlers tried their best to lower the high run rate of Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Shubman Gill was utilizing his bowlers and strategy well enough until Brevis decided to go berserk.

He took only 19 deliveries to complete his half-century; overall, he got 57 by facing 23 deliveries with a strike rate of 247.83, powered by four boundaries and five over boundaries. With this lightning-fast half-century, Brevis put his name into a list of all-time records as a Chennai Super Kings player.

He became one of the fastest CSK batters to reach 50. Former India and CSK middle-order batter Suresh Raina took only 16 deliveries to complete his 50 in the yellow jersey back in 2014 against Punjab Kings.

Dewald Brevis now registered his name in the record book of IPL

After that, Moeen Ali and Ajinkya Rahane, former CSK players, needed only 19 balls to touch the landmark. Dewald also took the same number of deliveries as Ali and Rahane to fetch a fifty.

After experiencing a horrible season, CSK management has started to rechalk their strategies for next season. Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis were initially not in the IPL 2025 squad; they joined the yellow camp during the midseason.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) new recruit Dewald Brevis made some astonishing revelations about his jersey number in the yellow brigade. The South African batter was a late inclusion into the CSK squad.

With a chunk of past experience playing in the Indian Premier League for Mumbai Indians, the young cricketer took very little time to show his true colors with the 5-time champion team. The ongoing IPL season proved to be a great lesson for Chennai Super Kings.

From the beginning of the tournament, they struggled and never found the right rhythm to bounce back. In the later part of the tournament, CSK management made some changes, signing new-age players in the hope of finding some positive notes. CSK, already eliminated from the circle with some assets for the upcoming season. The inclusion of Brevis was definitely a forward move from the CSK management.

Why he chose to play with jersey number 12?

The right-handed batter is often compared with his countryman AB de Villiers for his swashbuckling batting style. The upcoming international star has played a total of 4 matches for CSK in IPL 2025 to score 126 runs, including a highest score of 52 and an overall strike rate of 163.63.

The batter got jersey number 12, and he recently revealed the reason behind choosing this number. "12th is the date when I got a call from CSK that they were interested in me , so it's 12." From these comments, it is clear how the player is emotionally attached to the franchise.

The IPL 2025 season has kept fans on the edge of their seats not only with explosive batting or fiery bowling, but with breathtaking fielding brilliance. Fielders have won matches with death-defying catches, lightning-fast reflexes, and intelligent coordination. These are the top 5 catches this season that have impressed us with their athleticism, difficulty, and influence:

1. Rashid Khan vs Sunrisers Hyderabad

In a pivotal match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rashid Khan produced a match-winning moment by taking an incredible catch to send Travis Head back. Head, dangerous-looking, tried to flick a ball over square leg. Rashid, having initially misread the direction, ran back and sideways before adjusting his course halfway through his run. In a stunning turnaround, he hurled himself forward and was able to catch the ball inches above the ground. Due to Head's incendiary style, this exclusion was crucial—stopping him from establishing himself and turning the game in favor of Gujarat Titans.

2. Dewald Brevis vs Punjab Kings

In a closely fought match against PBKS , Dewald Brevis showed great calmness on the boundary rope. While a lofted shot was headed his way close to long-on, Brevis judged his leap to perfection, catching the ball in mid-air just within the ropes. Steadying his pace, he managed not to step over the boundary—a difficult art under pressure. His field sense converted what would have been a six into a wicket, changing the momentum in his team's favor.

3. Kamindu Mendis vs Chennai Super Kings

Kamindu Mendis amazed fans with an airborne catch that immediately went viral. Fielding for CSK, he responded to a flat pull shot by diving horizontally through the air close to backward point. Completely outstretched, he clutched the ball with both hands in mid-air, a moment evoking Jonty Rhodes-era fielding. The pure athleticism and timing made it one of the most stunning catches of the season.

4. Dushmantha Chameera vs kolkata knight riders

In a burst of raw reflex genius, Chameera picked a blinder off his own bowling to direct a fierce drive straight back to him. The ball came off the bat like a bullet, but Chameera reflexively held out his right hand and snatched it away clean. It was a demonstration of sheer reaction time and poise, taking out even the batter by surprise, and eliminating a crucial KKR batsman early in the innings.

5. Riyan Parag vs Chennai Super Kings

Riyan Parag added to his growing reputation as a dependable fielder with a brilliant diving catch near the deep midwicket boundary. Chennai batter looked to clear the ropes, but Parag timed his sprint and dive to perfection, tumbling forward and clutching the ball just above the turf. It was a clutch moment in a high-pressure game and further established Parag’s importance in Rajasthan Royals’ outfield setup.

These catches were not merely highlights—they were game-changers. With fielding standards in IPL 2025 reaching new heights, these moments served as reminders that brilliance in the field can be as match-winning as a century or a five-wicket haul.

<![CDATA['It was a big moment' - CSK head coach Stephen Fleming lashes out after Dewald Brevis DRS controvery]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/it-was-a-big-moment-csk-head-coach-stephen-fleming-lashes-out-after-dewald-brevis-drs-controvery/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/it-was-a-big-moment-csk-head-coach-stephen-fleming-lashes-out-after-dewald-brevis-drs-controvery/ Sun, 04 May 2025 13:24:45 GMT

In a match that went down to the wire, Chennai Super Kings' narrow two-run defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Saturday was marred by a controversial DRS incident involving Dewald Brevis, which head coach Stephen Fleming has labelled a decisive moment.

The drama unfolded in the 17th over of CSK’s high-octane chase of 214. Facing Lungi Ngidi, Dewald Brevis was struck on the pad by a full toss that was quickly adjudged LBW by the on-field umpire. However, instead of reviewing immediately, Brevis and Ravindra Jadeja set off for a single. By the time the run was completed and a brief discussion ensued, the 15 second review window had lapsed. Brevis attempted to signal for a DRS but was denied, prompting a visible disagreement with Jadeja and an animated exchange with umpires Nitin Menon and Mohit Krishnadas.

“It was a big moment,” Fleming said in the post-match press conference. “In talking to Jaddu and Brevis, there was a lot going on with the running. I think they saw the ball ricochet and actually thought it had gone for four. In all that, the timing of the review got lost.”

Fleming says missed DRS cost CSK the match in close loss to RCB

Fleming stressed the complexity of the moment, acknowledging the confusion but also the costly nature of the delay. “As soon as you’re given out, the timer starts. The play kept going with the run and the throw at the stumps. Whether Brevis ran out of time or not, in the umpire's view he did. And that cost us big time.”

Adding another layer to the moment, Fleming explained that since Brevis was given out, the single wouldn't have counted even if the decision was overturned. “We’d have kept the wicket, yes, but not the run. Still, five runs would’ve made a difference.”

RCB's imposing 213/5 was built on quickfire knocks from Romario Shepherd (53 off 14) and debutant Jacob Bethell (62), with Virat Kohli also contributing 55. Despite Ayush Mhatre’s explosive 94 and Jadeja’s unbeaten 77, CSK finished at 211/6 just two short.

CSK now shift focus to their upcoming clash against KKR in Kolkata, hoping to bounce back from a defeat that could have gone very differently.

<![CDATA[[WATCH] RCB vs CSK: Anil Chaudhary explains Dewald Brevis DRS controversy]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-rcb-vs-csk-anil-chaudhary-explains-dewald-brevis-drs-controversy/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-rcb-vs-csk-anil-chaudhary-explains-dewald-brevis-drs-controversy/ Sun, 04 May 2025 10:45:17 GMT

In a pulsating IPL 2025 encounter between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the focus shifted from the heart-stopping action to a strange incident regarding Dewald Brevis and the Decision Review System (DRS) in the 17th over of CSK's chase, not long after the dismissal of the stunning Ayush Mhatre, who amassed 94 runs.

Brevis, who was playing his first delivery from compatriot Lungi Ngidi, was struck on the pads; the umpire raised his finger quickly, and while the batters continued running, CSK's wicketkeeper pulled off a direct hit at the non-striker's end. What followed was panic, confusion, and miscommunication that may have cost CSK the game.

Brevis was seen among the mayhem consulting with Ravindra Jadeja as he deliberated about the possibility of using the DRS, but the 15-second timer that needs to be shown every time for a review was never shown anywhere on the screen. Eventually, when Brevis eventually did signal for the review, the umpire informed him that the timer had run out. This was unfortunate for CSK, as replays afterwards showed that the ball was going to completely miss the stumps.

Umpire Anil Chaudhary Clarifies the DRS Confusion

In a post-game interview with Star Sports, on-field umpire Anil Chaudhary clarified the controversial incident: “When five seconds are left on the timer, the on-field umpire informs the players — it is part of the protocol. But it is for the first time that I have seen the batters running after the decision has already been made,. He went on to explain that when a batter is out, the ball is then dead, and running just does not make sense.

Jadeja was clearly agitated and voiced his frustration with the officials about the clarification and communication outdoors when it mattered most. His frustrations are reasonable; in hindsight, if the review was taken in a timely manner, Brevis would not have been given out, and maybe the entire game would have changed.

With Brevis walking back for a golden duck and CSK losing their early momentum, RCB took full advantage of the opportunity and closed out the game. All in all, the game made for a brilliant commercial for T20 cricket, but with the DRS controversy, it has kicked off discussions once again about process clarity and on-field communication.

<![CDATA[IPL 2025 RCB vs CSK: Why did umpires deny Dewald Brevis a DRS review?]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-rcb-vs-csk-why-did-umpires-deny-dewald-brevis-a-drs-review/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/ipl-2025-rcb-vs-csk-why-did-umpires-deny-dewald-brevis-a-drs-review/ Sun, 04 May 2025 00:11:28 GMT

In a tense IPL 2025 clash between RCB and CSK, controversy erupted when Dewald Brevis was denied a DRS review after being adjudged LBW by the on-field umpire on the very first ball he faced from Lungi Ngidi. Although Brevis completed a run and signaled for a review afterward, the umpire rejected the appeal, citing a delay in the request. Ravindra Jadeja attempted to intervene on behalf of CSK, but the decision was upheld, leaving fans and commentators puzzled, especially after seeing replays that clearly showed the ball miss the stumps.

The problem arose through the strict 15 seconds allowed for the Decision Review to be signalled, which states that players must signal for a review within 15 seconds of the on-field decision, and Brevis was running and subsequently only put his appeal in after time was out. It was still within the CSK camp's rights to protest however, the umpires stood firm. There is no doubt that CSK had an opportunity to overturn what was clearly an incorrect decision, had Brevis had time to be able to signal for a review.

The commentators discussed the events for a long enough time to allow them to highlight that Ngidi's delivery would most likely have been overturned if reviewed. The decision disappointed not only the CSK camp but also caused further discussions on social media as fans highlighted areas where players had obviously been given more time to signal of a review. The loser in this particular situation was CSK and even though the policy was not abused by RCB, it gradually created skepticism among CSK fans who thought that a club had received a heavy-handed instance on being dyslexic with the 'time' requirement from the DRS rule. Overall, the moment was a huge talking point from the match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Chennai Super Kings match Scorecard and Highlight

In a thrilling IPL 2025 match, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured a close 2-run victory over the Chennai Super Kings. Rajat Patidar and Jitesh Sharma made valuable contributions, while Tim David and Romario Shepherd finished things off. Matheesha Pathirana was the star performer for CSK, taking 3/36, while a wicket Sam Curran and Noor Ahmad took each in a high-scoring match at the Chinnaswamy.

Chennai Super Kings went close to themselves, putting up 211/5, helped by a brilliant innings where Ayush Mhatre scored 94 runs off 48 balls, and a fiery unbeaten 77 runs from Ravindra Jadeja. Lungi Ngidi was RCB's standout bowler, taking the crucial wickets of Mhatre and Sam Curran, among others, taking 3 wickets overall, while Krunal Pandya and Yash Dayal contributed a wicket each. With 13 needed in the final over, CSK's late push wasn’t enough, handing Bengaluru a crucial win in the tournament.
