South Africa produced a dominant display to beat India by 76 runs in their Super Eight encounter, piling up 187/7 before backing it with disciplined bowling in T20 World Cup 2026. Reduced to 20/3 early, they recovered through a fearless counterattacking stand that completely shifted momentum. The middle order blended composure with power, rotating strike smartly while punishing loose deliveries. Once the total surged beyond 180, the balance swung heavily in their favour as conditions offered enough assistance for controlled bowling, allowing them to defend the target with authority and confidence.

Tristan Stubbs' and David Millers' partnership was crucial in sparking South Africa's comeback and ultimately allowing for an outstanding performance in their T20 World Cup match against India. The two scored at will, and Stubbs added innovative shots while running well between the wickets to complement Millers' aggressive hitting. Combined, they dismantled India's plans by forcing changes to the fielding formation through hitting boundaries while mounting pressure on the Indian bowlers.Through their performance, South Africa confidently transformed a shaky start into a commanding position by the end of the innings. Both exemplified excellent counter-attack T20 batting and exhibited tremendous belief throughout their innings. From that point on, South Africa controlled the match.

As South Africa piled on runs, India fell apart during their innings due to a lack of stability created by early wickets and a significant number of dot balls. The Indian top order was unable to withstand the movement and bounce from the South African bowlers, which created no base for partnerships to build upon. Shivam Dube fought valiantly through the innings but fell victim to consecutive wickets falling around him as the innings progressed due to increasing required run rates leading to increasing risk being taken. The turning point of the match came during the middle overs by Marco Jansen's ability to take wickets while being backed up by Keshav Maharaj and Corbin Bosch. Their disciplined accuracy took away India's ability to hit boundaries and built continuous pressure on the Indian batters and proved to be an unmatchable target as South Africa won with authority.

South Africa did not get a great start with the bat, having decided to do the same against India in their opening Super 8 clash of the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. They lost three wickets inside the first four overs of the first innings, including their captain, Aiden Markram, and veteran opening batter, Quinton de Kock.

But since then, David Miller and Dewald Brevis settled the nerves and put the Proteas in a strong position with their 97-run partnership for the fourth wicket, which ended up being their highest ever fourth wicket partnership in the history of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Brevis was in great touch against the spinners as he smashed several sixes around the park.

One of his trademark no-look sixes went viral on social media platforms. It came during the ninth over of the innings as the right-handed batter went low and smoked it clean down the ground for an 82-meter maximum against Varun Chakravarthy, who was full on the off stump.

Dewald Brevis' no-look six in T20 World Cup 2026 vs India goes viral

Earlier in the game, Jasprit Bumrah drew the first blood with the wicket of de Kock before Arshdeep Singh sent back Markram while Bumrah returned to get the wicket of Ryan Rickelton. Miller completed his 50 in just 25 balls and continued to take the revenge against India, which he missed out on during the last T20 World Cup’s final in Barbados.

Watch the video here:

Brevis was finally dismissed by Shivam Dube as he missed out against the short ball before Abhishek Sharma grabbed a calm catch to send back the batter on 45 runs in 29 balls with the help of three boundaries and as many sixes as a strike rate of more than 155.

South Africa would eye to cross the 200 Denmark on a surface which looked better for the factors and would remain the same as their captain predicted at the toss. It was the same surface where both teams faced each other in the bilateral series at the end of last year, where 432 runs were scored in 40 overs.

Brief Scores: SA 152/5 (David Miller 63, Jasprit Bumrah 2/7) vs India.

In their last group stage game of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, while South Africa thrashed the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the 22-year-old Dewald Brevis played a strong knock with some strong sixes.

After the UAE were restricted to 122/6 in 20 overs, South Africa comfortably chased down the target in 13.2 overs after losing four wickets, as the Proteas won the match by six wickets with 40 balls remaining.

Dewald Brevis smashed 3 sixes

The no.4 batter Dewald Brevis was the highest scorer for South Africa in the match with 36 off 25 balls, with one four and three sixes. After a patient start, with eight runs off nine balls, Brevis smashed his first six of the match, which was a destructive shot. The left-arm pacer Muhammad Jawadullah delivered a short-pitched ball, and Brevis got his ball, as the right-handed batter smashed it over the midwicket for six.

In the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, Brevis has scored six, 23, 21, and 36 runs, respectively.

South Africa finished Group D with eight points

South Africa finished Group D of the tournament as the points table leader by winning all four matches in the group stage, including one Super Over win against Afghanistan. Earlier, they started the tournament with a comfortable 57-run win against Canada, and before the match against the UAE, they defeated New Zealand by seven wickets.

In the Super Eight stage, South Africa will play all matches in India from Group 1, where they will face the challenge from the hosts India, Zimbabwe, and the West Indies.

<![CDATA[South Africa Beat UAE by 6 Wickets in T20 World Cup 2026 as Bosch and Brevis Star ]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-analysis/south-africa-beat-uae-by-6-wickets-in-t20-world-cup-2026-as-bosch-and-brevis-star/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-analysis/south-africa-beat-uae-by-6-wickets-in-t20-world-cup-2026-as-bosch-and-brevis-star/ Wed, 18 Feb 2026 16:18:17 GMT

United Arab Emirates compiled 122 for six after opting to bat first, with Alishan Sharafu anchoring the innings through a steady 45 off 38 deliveries. Early momentum arrived through attacking strokes from Muhammad Waseem, but consistent breakthroughs prevented sustained acceleration. The innings struggled to find late impetus as disciplined bowling restricted boundaries and forced cautious rotation. Among the standout performers was Corbin Bosch, whose precise lengths and variations produced three wickets. Support from fellow bowlers ensured pressure never eased, keeping the scoring rate contained throughout the contest for long spells.

Chasing the modest target, South Africa asserted control immediately with a burst of attacking intent. Aiden Markram blasted 28 from just 11 balls, placing fielders under pressure and rapidly reducing the required rate. Ryan Rickelton followed with a fluent 30 that maintained tempo and denied bowlers any chance to settle. Even when wickets fell, the batting side remained calm, rotating strike efficiently and punishing loose deliveries. The steady progress ensured the chase never drifted off course, leaving the opposition searching for breakthroughs as overs slipped away quickly toward defeat rapidly.

Drewald Brevis led the charge in terms of batting methodically but heavily enough to score 36 runs over the course of his innings. This combination of timing and calculated aggression allowed him to move fielders out of position, creating opportunity after opportunity for himself until there was no longer any desire for anticipation from anyone in the crowd or team. His batting involved creating partnerships that came together seamlessly, which kept the bowlers from being able to enjoy even a second of enjoyment while they attempted to play, and allowed the run rate to continue increasing with phenomenal running. The end result was a short term target that had become an achievable reality and the batting side orchestrated this simply, without concern for what had just occurred, and finished the game as planned.

Dewald Brevis lead clinical chase

The closing stages underlined how comprehensively the contest had tilted. Dewald Brevis continued dictating terms, mixing caution with aggression to keep control intact. Bowlers attempted variations, yet nothing disrupted rhythm as singles and boundaries arrived in steady sequence. Fielders were pushed deeper, angles changed, and plans reshuffled, but momentum refused to shift. The chase concluded with overs to spare, reflecting not only batting depth but also clarity of approach. It was a demonstration of composure and authority that highlighted the gulf between the sides on the night for all spectators.

The result reinforced the superiority of South Africa across departments, from disciplined bowling spells to fearless strokeplay. Their ability to seize key moments and maintain intensity prevented United Arab Emirates from mounting any sustained challenge. While Sharafu’s resistance and occasional flashes hinted at promise, inconsistency proved costly over the full distance. Ultimately, the match illustrated how execution separates contenders from chasers, with one side combining precision and power seamlessly. Carrying this momentum forward, they will approach upcoming fixtures brimming with confidence and belief. The statement victory sent strong signals ahead.

Top Performances

Corbin Bosch ended the United Arab Emirates' attempts at acceleration by taking three wickets; he became the third-fastest to make an impact on the match in this way, helping his team to finish with only 12 runs. Dewald Brevis batted sensibly and powerfully for 36, while Ryan Rickelton made a quickfire 30, enabling South Africa to keep their chase under complete control. Alishan Sharafu was the standout performer for UAE, scoring a competent 45, despite the continuous fall of wickets around him, and contributed significantly to setting an above-average competitive total.

Key Moments

The explosive nature of Aiden Markram’s score of 28 off 11 balls took the scoreboard pressure away from South Africa during the powerplay and delivered an early shift in momentum towards them; however, during the critical phase of the game, Bosch’s removal of two established batters drastically halted the UAE’s scoring. Furthermore, Anrich Nortje removing Sharafu late in the innings denied the UAE a chance to produce a late surge. Overall, the timely nature of the wickets falling combined with the pace and style of scoring from South Africa meant they were able to control the flow of the match throughout.

Brief Score:
South Africa 123/4 (13.2 overs) beat United Arab Emirates 122/6 (20 overs) by 6 wickets.

Match 34 of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 will feature South Africa taking on United Arab Emirates at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, February 18, with the teams entering the contest on contrasting trajectories. South Africa have been among the standout sides in Group D, sitting comfortably at the summit with three wins from three matches and a strong net run rate of 1.477. Their campaign began with a commanding 57-run triumph over Canada, followed by a dramatic tie against Afghanistan that they eventually secured in a tense second Super Over finish.

One of the biggest defining games for South Africa was when they played New Zealand and managed to beat them convincingly by seven wickets, which would qualify South Africa for the Super Eight. On the other hand, the UAE has been shaky in its three games to date. They lost by ten wickets to New Zealand, bounced back with a five-wicket victory over Canada then lost on the last over to Afghanistan. They now have just one win out of three matches and have to deal with a strong South African side, who want nothing more than to keep up the winning streak.

Agony, bizarre twists, crunch passages, and tense finishes have defined Group D so far, and another gripping contest awaits as South Africa take on New Zealand in Match 24 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The clash will be held at the massive Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, February 14. Historically, New Zealand have enjoyed the upper hand, winning four of the last five T20Is between the sides. That record adds an extra layer of intrigue to an already high-stakes encounter.

New Zealand arrive in excellent form, having comfortably defeated Afghanistan before completing a dominant chase against the United Arab Emirates. Another victory would secure their progression to the Super Eights with a game still remaining. South Africa, meanwhile, are coming off a dramatic double super-over win against Afghanistan at the same venue. While they will be eager to collect crucial points, the Proteas would prefer a more controlled performance this time rather than another nerve-racking finish.

South Africa and West Indies are set to clash in the opening T20I of their three-match series on Tuesday, January 27, with Boland Park in Paarl hosting the contest. The Proteas come into the series after a challenging five-match T20I assignment against India, where they lost 1-3, with one game abandoned due to rain. Led by Aiden Markram, South Africa will be keen to bounce back strongly and build momentum, especially with the T20 World Cup drawing closer.

The West Indies, meanwhile, arrive after a narrow 1-2 defeat in a three-match T20I series against Afghanistan held in Dubai earlier this month. Their campaign in that series was hampered by the absence of key players, including regular skipper Shai Hope and in-form batter Sherfane Rutherford, who were engaged in the SA20 league. With more of their senior players now available, the Caribbean side will aim to put up a stronger challenge against the hosts.

Dewald Brevis]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-analysis/top-5-ipl-2026-stars-who-shined-in-sa20-2025-26-ft-dewald-brevis/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-analysis/top-5-ipl-2026-stars-who-shined-in-sa20-2025-26-ft-dewald-brevis/ Mon, 26 Jan 2026 21:39:56 GMT

The SA20 2025-26 ended when Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) defeated Pretoria Capitals (PC) in the final played at Newlands Stadium in Cape Town on Sunday, January 25. In the first innings, PC batted first, scoring 158 runs for 7 wickets in their full quota of twenty overs, with Dewald Brevis contributing a sensational 101 runs scored off of 56 balls, including 8 fours and 7 sixes. Despite this impressive effort from this young man, he could not guide Pretoria to a huge total. His innings not only showcased his ability to hit the cricket ball long distances but also demonstrated his ability to maintain composure under pressure; the T20 scouts, as well as fans, are excited about Dewald's potential ability, and rightfully so.

After losing four wickets within 48 runs, SEC was also in early trouble. Matthew Breetzke and Captain Tristan Stubbs came together to form an unbroken partnership of 114 runs off of 64 balls, leading the way for SEC to win the match. Stubbs scored 63 not out off of 41 balls while Breetzke made 68 not out off of 49 balls. After the tremendous effort of the pair, SEC was victorious by 6 wickets with 4 balls remaining, winning SEC’s third SA20 title in four years. Now that the tournament is over, we are excited about the performance of several of the players that stood out during this tournament when they play in the IPL in 2026.

1. Dewald Brevis

Dewald Brevis

Dewald Brevis has emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in global T20 cricket, and his performances in the SA20 2025‑26 have catapulted him into the spotlight ahead of IPL 2026. Nicknamed “Baby AB” for his elegant stroke play reminiscent of AB de Villiers, Brevis dominated bowling attacks throughout the SA20 season with brutal hitting, impeccable timing, and fearless intent. His ability to maintain a strike rate well above 150 made him invaluable to Pretoria Capitals, and his batting exploits caught the attention of IPL scouts and franchises alike.

See Also: Shai Hope named captain as West Indies announces squad for T20 World Cup 2026

Brevis didn’t just score runs in the SA20 — he did so with consistency and impact. Whether it was setting the tone at the top of the innings or accelerating in the death overs, he showed a complete range of T20 batting skills. The aura he generated in SA20 is a strong indicator of how he could flourish in the IPL’s electrifying atmosphere. His power hitting, innovation against all types of bowling, and comfort in high‑pressure situations make him one of the most intriguing prospects for IPL 2026. Expect teams to rely on his bat for quick starts and explosive middle‑overs fireworks.

2. Aiden Markram

Aiden Markram

Another SA20 star turning heads ahead of IPL 2026 is Aiden Markram. A seasoned campaigner who led Sunrisers Eastern Cape with authority, Markram blends tactical maturity with batting dynamism. In SA20 2025‑26, he was among the top run‑contributors and provided crucial innings at key moments. His capability to build innings while maintaining a healthy strike rate makes him particularly suited for IPL conditions, where balance and adaptability are vital.

Markram’s credentials go beyond runs; he’s a proven leader with experience in various T20 leagues around the world. This leadership facet enhances his value in the IPL, where teams constantly seek players who can marshal resources and guide younger talents. With solid technique and experience handling pace and spin alike, Markram’s confidence and consistency will make him a key IPL performer. His all‑around game has the potential to influence matches, making him a player to watch once franchises kick off their 2026 campaigns.

3. Marco Jansen

Marco Jansen

Marco Jansen has proven that his SA20 success translates to IPL value. Known for his tall, intimidating presence and ability to extract bounce, Jansen was a standout with both bat and ball, making him a genuine all‑round asset. Across the SA20 2025‑26 season, he delivered breakthroughs with disciplined seam bowling, and also contributed runs when needed — a rare combination that IPL franchises gold‑rush for.

In a league where bowlers who can keep the runs down and still chip in with bat form the backbone of balanced sides, Jansen ticks both boxes. His left‑arm pace offers variety, and his knack for picking up crucial wickets at pivotal moments boosts any side’s bowling depth. Moreover, a lower‑order batting capability gives teams flexibility, making him a standout SA20 performer ready to tackle the rigours of IPL competition. Jansen’s continued development could make him a game‑changer in the 2026 season.

4. Anrich Nortje

Anrich Nortje

Anrich Nortje’s SA20 2025‑26 campaign showcased his return to peak rhythm after battling injuries. With raw speed consistently flirting with the upper limits of pace bowling, Nortje terrorised batsmen and claimed a clutch of wickets that proved decisive for his team. His ballistic bowling style — hitting hardest at the start and during death overs — is something IPL franchises value immensely.

Nortje’s ability to run through strong batting lineups in SA20 signals he can do exactly that in IPL 2026. Fast bowlers who can deliver in crunch moments and sustain pressure are often IPL match‑winners, and Nortje’s rhythm and aggression make him a potent weapon. If he stays fit and maintains his lethal form, Nortje will likely bolster any IPL bowling attack, bringing speed, skill, and menace to the crease — especially on batting‑friendly Indian pitches.

5. Sherfane Rutherford

Sherfane Rutherford

Sherfane Rutherford enjoyed an impressive SA20 2025-26 campaign, emerging as one of Pretoria Capitals’ most consistent batters. The West Indies left-hander featured in 11 matches and scored 334 runs across 10 innings, averaging a remarkable 66.80. His attacking intent stood out, reflected in a strike rate of 165.34, while two fluent half-centuries underlined his ability to combine power with control. Time and again, Rutherford provided stability in the middle order and accelerated when required, making him a vital contributor to Pretoria’s run to the latter stages of the tournament.

Rutherford’s strong showing in South Africa has set the stage for an exciting IPL 2026 season. The Caribbean batter will turn out for five-time champions Mumbai Indians, adding depth and firepower to their batting unit. He previously represented Gujarat Titans during the 2025 IPL season but was traded to MI ahead of the 2026 auction. With his recent form and growing experience in global T20 leagues, Rutherford will be eager to make a significant impact in Mumbai’s star-studded lineup.

Since his introduction into international cricket, Dewald Brevis has made his no-look six the most famous around the world, especially in the shortest format of the game. And playing for the Pretoria Capitals, against the MI Cape Towns in the ongoing 2024/26 season of the SA20, he displayed the special shot against the country’s premier pacer, Kagiso Rabada.

The Capitals were 121 for the loss of four wickets in 16 overs when Kagiso Rabada came to bowl his last over of the spell, having already taken two wickets for 19 runs in his three overs. The first ball was flicked in deep into the stands, that backward square leg putting his head into the ground by Brevis. He threw his hand on the cut and got the top of the bounds to smash the second shot over deep backward point for the same result.
