Tiruppur Beat Dindigul Easily to Win First TNPL Title

The match was completely one-sided as IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans outplayed Dindigul Dragons in all departments. Led by R Sai Kishore, Tiruppur won their first-ever TNPL title since the league began in 2016. It was extra special for Kishore because it was his first TNPL trophy as captain, and it came against the defending champions.

Batting first, Tiruppur put up a big score of 220 for 5 in 20 overs. Opener Tushar Raheja was superb, scoring 77 from 46 balls with 6 fours and 4 sixes.
Amith Sathvik also batted well, making 65 from 34 balls. The pair added 121 runs for the first wicket, giving Tiruppur a strong start. Quick runs from S Mohamed Ali, U Sasidev, and Anovankar V added more pain for Dindigul. Even though Dindigul used six bowlers, they couldn’t stop the runs. Karthik Saran took 2 wickets for 44 runs but didn’t get much help from the others.

Chasing 221, Dindigul fell apart and were bowled out for just 102 in 14.4 overs.
Tiruppur won by a huge margin of 118 runs. Their bowlers struck early and kept taking wickets. Ragupathy Silambarasan took 2 for 12, getting rid of captain Ashwin and Vimal Khumar. Esakkimuthu A and S Mohan Prasath also took two wickets each, while T Natarajan got an important early wicket. Dindigul lost half their team in the first seven overs and couldn’t recover, especially with Shivam Singh unable to bat due to injury. Tiruppur’s all-round show gave them a well-deserved and convincing win.

TNPL 2025 ended after a one-sided final match. iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans completely thrashed Dindigul Dragons (ITT vs DD) to claim the title. The Dragons batting line-up failed miserably against ITT's top-notch bowling performance. Tiruppur won the match by a whopping 118-run margin.

Toss and the first innings:

Dindigul Dragons captain Ravichandran Ashwin invited ITT to bat first on NPR College Ground. The captain's decision did not work according to the plan, as most of their bowlers leaked over 10 runs from there every over on average. Ashwin himself remained wicketless, while Varun Chakravarthy claimed one scalp. ITT got 121 runs from their opening pair. Amith Sathvik's 65 and 77 runs from Tushar Raheja's bat set the foundation for a big total in the first innings. ITT's middle order also produced multiple cracking cameos to rotate the run rate.

Second innings:

DD found no answer to match the intention of the game. They lost wickets on regular intervals, failing to create any such significant partnership. 5 of their batters got out with single-digit scores. For ITT, R. Silambarasan, S. Mohan Prasath, and Esakkimuthu A claimed 2 wickets each—a combined bowling effort, the same as the batting, to grab the silverware.

With so many exciting talents in the squad, it is hard to select only 2 from there. Ravichandran Ashwin solidified his international career mainly as a spinner. Here with the Dindigul Dragons in TNPL 2025, he acted as an opener and spinner as well. In his new role, Ashwin has done well so far, playing multiple crucial knocks for his team.

But if we consider full-time batters only, then the name Shivam Singh will pop up first. The 29-year-old batsman has been playing a crucial role for the Dindigul Dragons. Though his recent form can be a concern for the team. Dindigul Dragons reached the final to fight against IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans for the TNPL 2025 title after beating Chepauk Super Gillies.

Against Chepauk, Vimal Khumar played a sensational knock to achieve victory. In a single over, he claimed 34 runs, which changed the fate of the match. So, in the final match too, Khumar can't be ruled out from the batters list to watch out for. In the last three TNPL matches, the young batsman scored a couple of half centuries. DD skipper R Ashwin recently played a flamboyant innings of 83 runs against Trichy Grand Cholas.

The Dindigul Dragons are ready to take on the iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans (ITT vs DD) for the TNPL 2025 final. The team led by Ravichandran Ashwin cemented their spot in the final after defeating an in-form Chepauk Super Gillies with a game-changing 34-run over.

While Dragons has multiple match-winning players in the squad, two Tiruppur batters can change the whole complexion of the all-important match of the championship. Tushar Raheja and Amith Sathvik, two batters among the leading run scorers of the league, will try their best to play a memorable knock in the title decider match.

Along with Ashwin, Varun Chakravarthy and the rest of DD's bowling need to produce some magical moments in the middle with the ball. 24-year-old Tushar has been in crucial form from the beginning of the tournament, scoring 411 runs in 8 matches, with an average of 58.71. In their previous encounter with the Dindigul Dragons, the batter played an unbeaten 65-run knock.

Nightmare for the bowling side, blessing for the batting side. A 34-run over decided the secondary finalist of the ongoing TNPL 2025. Vimal Khumar's flamboyant knock confirmed a final match spot for Dindigul Dragons (DD). In the title decider match, Dragons will face Tiruppur Tamizhans.

In an over of Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG) bowler Rohith Suthar, Khumar successfully hit 5 over boundaries and one boundary. He started the over with a lightning-fast four, followed by 5 hard-hitting 6s. After the end of over 16, DD was on 127 for 4; from there, after the next over, the scoreboard showed 161/4, a huge jump in the run chase for the second batting side.

Before the over, the match was in a well-balanced position; both of the teams had a fair amount of chances to win the game and enter into the final for a title shot. But that single over almost threw CSG out of the equation. CSG was in great form throughout the beginning of this season's TNPL. They went straightaway for a 7-match undefeated streak before falling short against the Ravichandran Ashwin-led team, which is the Dindigul Dragons.

Dindigul Dragons won the match by 4 wickets against Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG). But the man who took the team close to the entrance of the last round did not manage to stay on the crease for the winning hit. Just before the conclusion of the contest, Khumar lost his wicket and went back to the pavilion after scoring a match-winning 65-run innings of 30 balls.

In the same over where he claimed 34 runs, he completed his fifty. During the swashbuckling innings, the 22-year-old hoisted 5 deliveries for maximum and smacked on five occasions for 4s, which took his strike rate to 216.67.

That one over changed the whole complexion of the run chase. Rohith Suthar conceded 34 runs in the 17th over of the second innings. Dindigul Dragons' (DD) batter Vimal Khumar smacked 5 sixes and a boundary in the over—34 runs in total—and took the run chase to another level. After the end of over 16, DD was on 127 for 4; from there, after the next over, the scoreboard showed 161/4, a huge jump in the run chase for the second batting side. During the over, Khumar also completed his half century. The batter made sure of a win from tonight's game, bowling out before hitting the winning runs. Khumar went back to the hut after a destructive 30-ball, 65-run innings.

Dragons into the final:

Dindigul Dragons won the match by 4 wickets against Chepauk Super Gillies (CSG). It was CSG's first defeat in the ongoing TNPL 2025. Before game 31, they were unbeaten and were one of the favorites to make a spot in the final match. But under pressure, Vimal delivered and placed his team in the final, where they will face Tiruppur Tamizhans.

Toss and the first innings:

Ravichandran Ashwin led the Dindigul Dragons to choose to bowl first after winning the toss. The skipper himself played a big part with the ball and the bat. Ashwin took the wicket of dangerous Narayan Jagadeesan, who scored an important 81-run innings to help his team register a fightable total of 178 in the first innings. CSG skipper Baba Aparajith's 67 was second best for the team.

Second innings:

DD started the innings in a watchful manner. Instead of making decisions in a hurry, they chose to take some time before shifting the gears. Baba Indrajith played a useful 42-run innings off 31 balls. When Khumar came to bat, the foundation was already there to make a successful launch, and he exactly did that, launching the ball back-to-back over the boundary ropes. Suthar was the impact player for CSG, who offered the match-turning 34-run over.

Back-to-back two wins for Trichy Grand Cholas. In match 28 of TNPL 2025, they got a clinical victory over Dindigul Dragons (DD). They won the match by 4 wickets and 3 balls to spare. In the match, Dindigul skipper Ravichandran Ashwin and Varun Chakravarthy had an average day with the ball. The team on the opposite side took the opportunity to grab a win.

Toss and the first innings:

Dindigul Dragons won the toss and chose to bat first at NPR College Ground. This was not a perfect day at the office for them. In all departments, they did not have enough to produce something that could tilt the momentum of the match. During their batting part, DD struggled throughout the innings, losing wicket after wicket, and failed to create a solid partnership. One of their main men scored a slow 37. Vimal Khumar's 55 off 37 appeared as the only hope, and they managed to get 150 as the total in 20 overs.

Second innings:

Trich lost 4 wickets in 5 overs and is about to lose grip over the match. From there, Jagatheesan Kousik and Sanjay Yadav took care of the situation and guided their team to their second consecutive victory. The duo carried the score from 24/4 to 122. Here, Koushik departed for individual 42. Though Yadav (55 not out) remained like a wall on the crease to confirm the win.

<![CDATA[R Ashwin may face ban after ball-tampering allegations in TNPL]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/r-ashwin-may-face-ban-after-ball-tampering-allegations-in-tnpl/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/r-ashwin-may-face-ban-after-ball-tampering-allegations-in-tnpl/ Mon, 16 Jun 2025 18:14:15 GMT

A day after the Madurai Panthers formally lodged a complaint with the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), accusing R. Ashwin’s Dindigul Dragons of ball tampering during their June 14 match, the league organizers responded, requesting the franchise to submit concrete evidence. The Panthers alleged that the Dindigul side used towels treated with chemicals, resulting in the ball becoming heavier and producing a metallic sound upon contact with the bat. The claims have raised eyebrows, especially considering the stature of players involved.

TNPL CEO Prasanna Kannan confirmed the receipt of the complaint and acknowledged the gravity of the allegations. While noting that such complaints should ideally be filed within 24 hours of the match, he said the league has still accepted Madurai’s submission and will take appropriate steps once proof is furnished.
“They have filed a complaint, which we have acknowledged. Though they have to lodge any complaints within 24 hours of the game, we have still accepted it and have asked them to furnish proof of their allegations. We will be forming an independent committee if we find there is any truth to their allegations. Without sufficient evidence, it is wrong to put forth such allegations against a player and another franchise. If they don’t provide any evidence, then Madurai will face due sanctions,” he told The Indian Express.

In the letter submitted to TNPL, Madurai franchise COO S. Mahesh wrote, “A serious case of ball tampering occurred during our recent match against Dindigul Dragons.
Despite repeated warnings, the Dindigul team blatantly tampered with the ball, using towels that appeared to have been treated with chemicals.” The match was held in Salem under damp conditions, with a brief rain delay before Madurai batted first and scored 150/8. Dindigul chased the total in just 12.3 overs, winning by nine wickets. Ashwin, who opened the innings and scored 49, went wicketless with the ball.

Towels, Checks, and Match Protocols

The TNPL, considering the monsoon-affected conditions, provides towels to all franchises for drying the ball—but only under strict guidelines. Kannan clarified that players are allowed to dry the ball in the presence of umpires using official TNPL-issued towels. “They have to dry the ball only using the towels provided by TNPL. And every time the ball is hit for a six or immediately after a dismissal and overbreak, umpires regularly check the ball, and they didn’t find any issue with the ball during the said match,” he said.

The league’s position is firm: if Madurai does not produce verifiable evidence, they cannot progress with the complaint, and the franchise risks disciplinary action for making unverifiable allegations. The TNPL is waiting to see what will happen next as the focus on the big-money match continues.

<![CDATA[[WATCH] Ashwin loses cool after LBW call against Sai Kishore in TNPL 2025]]> https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-ashwin-loses-cool-after-lbw-call-against-sai-kishore-in-tnpl-2025/ https://www.cricketwinner.com/cricket-news/watch-ashwin-loses-cool-after-lbw-call-against-sai-kishore-in-tnpl-2025/ Mon, 09 Jun 2025 15:50:51 GMT

Ravichandran Ashwin has made a comeback to domestic cricket in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) after a disappointing season of IPL 2025. Playing for Chennai Super Kings, Ashwin could not make any difference, taking only seven wickets and scoring 33 runs in nine games. Now captaining the Dindigul Dragons, the 38-year-old all-rounder seemed keen to rectify the situation in the TNPL, but his latest outing was controversial.

During the game against IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans on Sunday, Ashwin exchanged heated words with an umpire. This happened in the 5th over of the Dragons' innings, after the captain of Tiruppur, R. Sai Kishore, decided to bowl first.
On the fifth delivery of the over, Ashwin was given LBW by the on-field umpire. Yet, the veteran cricketer refuted the decision vehemently, claiming that the ball had pitched outside leg-stump.

Although he protested, the umpire did not waver, and Ashwin was forced to return to the dugout after scoring 18 runs.
Clearly agitated, he expressed his displeasure by banging his pads with the bat while walking towards the dugout. The Dragons were never able to get back on their feet after the early troubles and were bowled out for a paltry 93 runs, as Tiruppur bowlers ruled the roost.

Tiruppur Clinch First Win Amid Ashwin's Frustration

Tiruppur Tamizhans made light work of the modest target, chasing down 94 runs in 11.5 overs. Tushar Raheja starred with the bat, hitting an unbeaten 65 off just 39 balls. The emphatic win gave Tiruppur their first points of the season after their loss to Chepauk Super Gillies at the start of the season.

The loss for Ashwin and the Dragons was a contrast to their season opener against the Lyca Kovai Kings. Ashwin's form has persisted from the IPL, where he and CSK had a disastrous season, ending last at the points table with a mere four victories from 14 games. The episode and performance again raise doubts over the veteran player's form and leadership before the season's big challenges.

A piece of brilliant captaincy by Sai Kishore. Dindigul Dragons (DD) got off to a promising start in the first innings, and from there, they ended up scoring only 93 runs, losing all ten wickets in 16.2 overs against idream Tiruppur Tamizhans (ITT). After the match, commenters heaped praise on Kishore's brilliant bowling and presence of mind as captain and the belief he possessed for his boys.

Toss and first innings:

After winning the toss, ITT chose to bowl first in Game 5 of TNPL 2025. Their biggest challenge in the match was to somehow restrict an in-form Shivam Singh from getting an attractive individual score. They successfully did that by taking the wicket of Singh when he was only at 30. After taking the wicket of the dangerous opener, ITT got the confidence they were lacking at the beginning of the game. They were able to depart Ravichandran Ashwin and Shivam early in the match, and then there was no turning back for the Tamizhans. Esakkimuthu A emerged as the best bowler of the night with 4 wickets in his bag, followed by M Mathivannan with 3 wickets and Sai Kishore with a brace.

Second Innings:

Dindigul Dragons, led by Ravichandran Ashwin, did not pose any such threat to Tiruppur Tamizhans, and they comfortably reached the finish line after losing only one wicket. Tushar Raheja was in full swing while scoring an unbeaten 65 against 39, with six 4s and five 6s.
